Wow. Who knew an 8-minute video on pencil sharpening could be so satisfying to watch. Thanks! You've completely convinced me this is the way to start sharpening my pencils.
big thanks on this video. i was always breaking the pencils when trying to sharpen with a blade. I think the big thing i learned in this video is not to move the hand that holds the blade. And that makes sense.
Omg ! I just did it too 😮 and the pencil broke so i tried twice but then i searched in youtube and saved myself if i didn't search iam sure the pencil would have had been broken
FYI and to help with your teaching explanation, when sharpening the pencil, the type of cut you are performing is a "push cut". It is used often in spoon carving.
thank u so much. because i just got a whole set of pencils and i had charcoal. and they did give me a box cutter. but now i can do the charcoal pencil because i didn’t know thank you.
I'm new to charcoal renderings so I purchased nitram starter set...the extender doesn't hold the charcoal enclosed...Nitram does packaging well. So I would forgo that sander and use common plasters' sanding product...it's sandpaper on a mesh so you can save the charcoal Powder for the art work.
Sir what's inside the charcoal pencil in the casing. On the brand "Generals", there's a plastic inside the lead. I thought I sharpen it wrong. Does all charcoal pencil have this kind of feature? I've been using charcoal pencil for the first and I love the effect on the tone. It's just like using a black color pencil and black pencils with 6b or 8b grades 😁❣️👍🍩☕😄🎱
I sharpen my colored pencils with a blade, pastel pencils, wc pencils and have trouble of all things with the Derwent 24 color charcoal pencils. They can't be bought seperately so I can't expose gobs of charcoal it just breaks so I am careful. With willow sticks and so forth or shades of darker/lighter values I feel that is more important to use the length. And I sharpen mine to relax too. Funny.
The first time i tried this, i used a new blade and ended up cutting my thumb deeply. I can't even type with it because it hurts still, lol. I bled for almost an hour. Be safe, yall.
I didnt have problem with sharpening pencil but once i decided its a smart thing to scrape some old nail polish with a razor blade and long story short i gauged it into the nail bed it hurted like a b**ch even tho the cut was tiny
careful that happened to me i was sharpening an charcol pencil i was a begginer so my thumb was pressing on the back of the blade and i cut my thumb so be caeful when sharpening theres more to worry than just getting the charcoal tip broken you can get injured
you sound just like JP from awaken with JP!! lol, I couldn't figure it out till the end of the video.... and thanks for helping me know how to sharpen my charcoal. ;)
I became worried when I was sharpening it with a SHARPENER 😔 Good thing a friend of mine that I use a knife or a cutter and I went to search and I was happy for the results 😍😍
"This is your time to relax". I'm freaking out with a knife in my hand. No amount of work in the kitchen can prepare me for moving the knife towards the fingers of my other hand.
My Hero!!Thank you for sharing this video. Only 2 times my top broke, so the pencil is very short now cause I had to start all over again😂 But it was a cheap pencil, so that's np. I used everytime a normal pencil sharpener and the coal broke everytime. But now I know how to sharpen my charcoals🥳 Whoohoo👍
I just searched for vids of ppl drawing with charcoal pencils and no one has them so point like yours lol. doing this with soft charcoal pencil can be dangerous, hard ones are better for that kind of point.
@@Heavycakes yeah just bought a pencil charcoal and I sharp it with a sharpener. And it keeps on breaking. I had to stop when it already reach half through the pencil

Wow same! I keep sharpening it with a sharpener but keeps breaking but i used a knife still cant because my hand hurts.
Sharpeners are the nemesis of charcoal pencils.

Very clear demonstration. Thank you!
Just what I was looking for! And the way you talk is meditative as much as is the action.
When I cut my charcoal pencil the charcoal always break even if I'm too careful. It is super annoying

What grit of sandpaper is advisable to use?
wow thanks a lot very educative
Thanks for this video, I was wondering what the blade was used for, now I know it's for my charcoal lol.
Thank you, before watching I had no idea how to safely use a box cutter.

Hi did you normal brushes those sandpaper off? Cos the charcoal are so soft and end up the sandpaper are very smooth!
Very thank full..
Thanks a lot
What paper do you use these on or are they only applicable to newsprint?
THANK YOU.
Do you need to sharpen the charcoal pencil even when you get a fully charcoal pencil(literally just charcoal in the shape of a pencil type of pencil)?
Thank you
Is there a link to a sanding pad someone can share ?

@@c.m.1311 haha maybe we should request JP to do a parody lol.
May I ask? Is Soft, Medium, Hard type of Charcoal pencil has something to do with their tendency to break easily?
Yes. I notice that soft pencils break ALOT more
It’s to do with how much gum is mixed with the charcoal inside the pencil
Can it be sharpen by using rotary pencil sharpener?
Why do you look like you're hiding ungodly amounts of annoyance with that smile?
I found it nearly impossible to sharpen the Conte 3B. Very soft and crumbled easily..
Great helpful video. Thanks for sharing. But film canisters disappeared long ago.
Thank you now I know how to sharpen my charcoal pencil 👍😁
I became worried when I was sharpening it with a SHARPENER 😔 Good thing a friend of mine that I use a knife or a cutter and I went to search and I was happy for the results 😍😍
How do you get it from the charcoal not falling out
What hardness was this pencil? Bc w/ the 3B today I broke it every single time I finally got the wood to expose the lead. :P
A charcoal pencil
Looks to be either hard or medium grade

I was sharpening the pencil and it would break then I tried doong it with the knife when I would finally get some led it would just break again
What's your knive called?
what are the benefits made like that?
he showed you
I'm sorry but what's that black thing? Which is sharpening its lead
Bro just use a medium grit sand paper
Just thanks
i tried and it gave nothing when i did it this end was fully broken idk why
If I make that long and it breaks. Wouldn't it finish my pencil faster than with a sharpener?
uhm just make sure not to use alot of pressure..? Cuz charcoal gives it colour easily so there's no need for added pressure
What do you call that ping pong thingy like
My charcoal in the pencil keeps breaking when I sharpen it
When I first saw that long tip charcoal I tought it is going to break only by watching it
IS THIS GUY THE FLASH!? HIS HAND WAS MOVING SO FAST! :O
Some clips were sped up
thanx god you exist
I was sharpening it with a sharpener till now It was again and again breaking 😂😂😂
mine still kept breaking for 2 hours i’ve been trying 😩
Wait... is that a Carbon pencil or charcoal? Its so solid... i see
I just searched for vids of ppl drawing with charcoal pencils and no one has them so point like yours lol.
doing this with soft charcoal pencil can be dangerous, hard ones are better for that kind of point.
Super
It. Is very Best pen for droing shadeing
Damn that got really deep plus I'm baked
Does this mean I can't sharpen a charcoal pencil with a sharpener
its not a fun way to do it ill tell ya that
@@Heavycakes yeah just bought a pencil charcoal and I sharp it with a sharpener. And it keeps on breaking. I had to stop when it already reach half through the pencil
Nice watch 😁
ruclips.net/video/FgY0C27zAzw/видео.html
no matter how hard I press Mine breaks the moment knife touches the charcoal, its kind of annoying since it was 2€ for each pencil :/
ok now I know, soft ones break very easily, but the harder the more chances they will survive :P
Be sure your blades are super-sharp as this shouldn't be happening!
Pencil name please ❤️❤️
Conte du paris
That looks like a spear. 😂 can't do that on my pens, they broke easily
I did it
What if the charcoal pencil is rounded by paper?
Then peel as much as you want and then use sandpaper
I... totally didn't break my new charcoal pencil twice before watching this video.
I didn't try to use the sharpener for my graphite pencils either.
I no understand you leangue but thanks for the tutorial by the way im from indonesia
But it's still broke into pieces. I used soft charcoal
What if it has no wood??????🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
You'd only use this process for sharpening a charcoal pencil! You wouldn't need to do this if you're using stick charcoal.
@@cbugstudio i am using a charcoal pencil it just dose not have wood !
@@cbugstudio i cant sharpen it like a normal pencil because then it breaks so what do i do???!?!
@@wckedcp3582 Give this method a try - it should work just fine!
You sound exactly like Nathan Fielder
Creativebug this great and all but wouldn't it be easier to just carve a lump of charcoal
This way ends up being a lot cleaner because you have the wood to hold on to, but feel free to do whatever feels most comfortable to you!
Jesus! Is that a weapon?
I didnt know a video could change my life so much
My charcoal pencil starts off like....flat like....a new pencil ad idk what to do
What we see on your video is not a charcoal pencil. It's a "pierre noire", which is very different.
that’s besides the point, he’s showing technique
