Every October I treat myself to a "31 Days of The Shadow" marathon. It's simple: I log into RUclips, pick an episode at random, and let a half-hour go.
I heard Orson Welles felt The Shadow was beneath his talents and he only did it because he needed the dough at the time.
Dan D. Dirges I wouldn't doubt that. But he was second ONLY to William Johnstone, [in my opinion] of all actors who portrayed the Shadow, on radio, TV, or Film.
not Bret Morrison? (& Bill Johnstone rules lol)
Sarah Brandy Peters As you like.
Not true. In fact, Welles planned to do a film version of The Shadow in the late 40s. He didn't return to the role after Citizen Kane due to the controversy surrounding War of the Worlds, and his subsequent blackballing from Radio.
(Personally, I feel Bret Morrison is vastly superior in the role, but different strokes)
Cyan Blackflower
Bret Morrison WAS Lamont Cranston, playboy
The Shadow is one of the best of it's kind. I especially enjoy Welles in the role.
I luv all this otr stuff thanks for your play list keep it up it.True original captivating storeys the best👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love these. Thak yo enormously for the time and effort.
Dang. I keep finding episodes I have never heard before! thats awesome!
Anyone with a rack that fine , should be appeased .
I wish someone would make a series of animated shows from these old radio shows.
I second that , these plot-lines are pretty awesome, still even by 21st century standards. a mad scientist making bio-weapons because he thinks he's a reincarnated duke fated to murder. that's action/drama gold...
I turd dat !
I'd love to remake the whole back catalog of _Shadow_ tales.
@Roy Gales The challenge here is to make the Shadow's invisibility...visually interesting. It sounds ridiculous when put that way, I know, but it can be done. Like the episode with the haunted house, where the Shadow's making the driver of the car hallucinate potential car crashes--that could be done like the old UPA "Tell-Tale Heart" cartoon, very trippy and nightmarish.
And he doesn't only restrict himself to "Man with hat, cloak, scarf, and big nose," either--he can take many, many different forms, because he's putting himself into his foes' heads.
Great idea!
How death-shocked and traumatized is Girl Friday, Margo?
It's 7o'clock and time for the Shadow.....we always tuned in back in the day, thanks for your shows.........
you should make a playlist of each show
Thank you for posting these episodes of which I never heard before. Btw, there are a lot more on this link. archive.org/details/RkoOrsonWelles-TheShadow-RadioRecodings I just want to note that on this particular link the dates such as the Steamship episode contradicts with the Reincarnation episode and that is also the same with the link's 4 other episodes contradicting with your other 4 episodes.
Great OTR show. Outstanding audio. I wish america was as interested in doing the right thing in this generation as the american generation of the 1930’s.
And the 1940's...
I just came for the Blue Coal commercials.
I wonder how much a coal furnace would cost me?
I'd have to buy a shovel too. 🦕
This is too obvious. There were other radio programs that had real Suspense. BTW, mosquitos bite at night.
Who's the actor who always plays the villains in these early episodes?
Will blue coal make a comeback under President Trump?
Only the shadow knows!
No, but if it does, the Shadow will go after Donald Trump.
@@Hotshotter3000 Frag off libtard!!!
I come from the future. No.
No, but Anacot Steel performed quite well during the Donald's term...
This would make a good plot for a horror movie.
funny as much as i loved the shadow i did not care for the ones with Orson Wells, my favorite was Bret Morrison, he just had the right voice for it. Wells always seemed so stuffy.
OW episodes irritate me, he just talks over other people's dialogue. It's incredibly disrespectful.
Orson Wells was fantastic!
great
Wikipedia has the listing for all of the shows.
it doesnt sound like orson wells
he was only 23 at this time.
