That is because Waluigi and Luigi survived and Enma Sended her spirits to deal with them, but peach of the other time line survived too because she was possesed, now she can access a super state of demon form to deal with the spirits and the virus

Yeah, if Luigi dies close to the end of the night, you maybe will survive, which is an Achivement but the problem is after too long, they're rush the room and kill you, so about 99% of the time, yeah, your screwed if Luigi dies
