Wow… I guess I’ve been rewatching this performance for 14 years now… I still tear up… going to see them live for the first time this summer. They are still so amazing good. Hopefully I can get a hoodie.
i bought my first single when i was 8 in 1964, and have worked in the music business my entire life and i would like to say this is the best band performance i have ever heard.
I was 14 in '64 and fronted a band with Stones hopes. Even with the likes of Van Morrison, Iggy Pop and Tim Buckley as great examples let me say there are none compared to Sam Herring. Future Islands are the best ever. Lovely stuff.
Through my mum's love and taste of good music I was lucky to grow up listening to the likes of steely dan.the doors .Ian dury and the blockheads. John holt .David ruffin. Bowie .The smiths .buzzcocks .magazine etc but as much as I still love listening to these bands I'm more grateful that amongst the shite that's about today future islands are there for me as a current band that I can look forward to seeing live
I love this because it shows Sam really going for it before the audience was responding. He gave it all to a crowd that wasn't responding that much - even though it was their THIRD show of the day. Much love and much respect. (From a fan who only caught on after "Singles" and is just now catching up on the backlog.)
There’s just too much to say about this performance. I stumbled on to these guys randomly, but when I did it was a curious ear worm. I had to investigate there interesting sound. So eventually I come upon this performance and wow, I have too much to say. Sam oozes with emotion and it’s encompassing. Every word every scream puts you directly into the heart and soul of the song. The band is amazing as well but they are two separate entities that’s complement each Other harmoniously and would be nothing with out the other . The music is rhythmic and somber. Longing, lonely and cold, as somehow to keep a glimmer of hope. The synths are dark and romantic, the bass is optimistically pulsing as if to keep the balance between the two.Sam keeps the intensity and emotion that pulls you in. I can watch this once a day for the rest of my life and I first saw this in 2013
Chapeau bas Gustavo. Your description is so accurate. I stumbled across them randomly on the radio, Googled them "what's this song" and love them ever since. What a band.
This concert is amazing on so many levels. The song " Inch of Dust" hit me on such a viseral level as well as the others. It's like Sam can read my mind it's crazy but then again we all experience a multitude of feelings but to express it as succinctly and beautifully as he does is an art, performance wise when I tear up, to smiling and wonder and joy and love. That is a prodigy.
The best performance of anything I’ve ever seen. It seriously feels like Sam thought he would die immediately after this set and therefore to give it everything he’s got.
@@renegadeangel5194 won’t disagree. I saw them open for Phantogram right before letterman happened. Right before they started using a live drummer. They’re just a different band now. Both are great, but man just look at this video!!! There’s something so lo-fi and elemental to this setup.
Thank you for posting this. The original video was taken down years ago and I couldn’t find it anywhere about 3-4 years ago. This entire set has such great memories that come with it for me. I can’t thank you enough for posting this. Thank you, sincerely.
After suffering a miscarriage and trying to get my life back together after this pandemic.. this band has helped me pull through. Thanks for uploading this, positive vibes for all!
Holy shit....the day I became a Future Islands fan, it was through a short piece on Pitchfork (love'em, hate'em) that had embedded video footage of Inch of Dust...I've not been able to find that story in the P4 website to save my life, but I'll be damned if it wasn't this performance...thank you for sharing....beautiful
34:57 somehow even more intense than the studio version. Probably my favorite section out of any of their songs. To sleep! By light of you I can't endure, in light of things I can't ignore, in spite of all the roses thorns, it's hopeless works, it's hopeless words." chills every time. You can tell Sam was especially feeling it this performance aswell. When I day dream I imagine myself going back to this show with a time machine so I could experience it in person
Love this concert, and I’ve always loved shopping at Amoeba. The black and white and lower resolution lend themselves to their style and the venue. Thanks for posting!
This is amazing. Thanks for uploading. It's really cool to see that Sam's performance has always been this intense and sincere and not just acting up for the crowd. I had never heared this first song 'Inch of Dust' before. It just blew me away, not just the song but also this performance, this charisma from the signer. Amazing !

Their bass player has definitely gotten better. He's great here but he is exerting some more effort here it seems. He seems to play more effortlessly now.
As a person who was in the front row. We were all musicians, so we were being taken to school. They truly blew our minds, so we were too busy watching their pedals, equipment, and his broken leg. They were teaching us how to write a song/play live. Still the BEST gig I've ever been to.

Conocí a Future Islands en el 2012 y este sigue siendo de sus presentaciones favoritas, gran gran banda
[Verse 1]
A part of me - you have
A part of me - you hold
Apart from me - you stand
And there's parts that you have stole
[Verse 2]
You collect them in the cupboards
Like the pieces of a puzzle
And nest just like a mother
In the dampness of your sweater
And it's never put together
As I've watched you from the window
Behind the curtains, winter
Moves slowly as a tether
To wrap around you tightly
As lovers will in meadows
To fall in love with shadows
Where the snow is all but melted
And it's never put together
It's never put together
Behind the curtains, winter
Falls slowly as a feather
[Chorus]
A part of you - I have
The part of you - I hide
A part of you I hold
The part you left behind
[Refrain]
Call on me, I'll be there always
And call on me
I'll be there always
And call on me
I'll be there always
Call me
I'll be there always (Ooo-oo-oo-oooo)
Call me
I'll be there always (Ooo-oo-oo-oooo)
Call me
I'll be there always (Ooo-oo-oo-oooo)
[Chorus]

Apart from me - you stand
