I want to echo my thanks and gratitude for your extremely clear and step wise instructional videos. I just replaced the battery pack on my early 2013 Macbook pro model A1398...and, IT WORKS!!! My personal tip: I judicially used Goo Gone to clean off the remnants of the old sticky pads from the old battery. I then used ETOH on a 2x2 guaze to clean the Goo Gone off.
    Again....Thank you !!!!

I would very glad to do so! I am a general dentist in upstate NY and already rather adept with my hands. That said, I did have some trepidation about this project! You have a real teaching skill and communication, and of course with the work that you do. You are truly providing a great service for others!

@gskorn1 Thanks! I'm glad that we can record things like this and share it with others. In a classic teaching format, I lose patience very quick. Haha I get upset when people ignore the entire video and ask questions that would be answered if they just watched.
I wouldn't make a good teacher in the classic sense. Lol

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for your videos. Between you and ifixit I was able to do this job myself. Of course Apple wanted me to trash it back in 2020 saying it was 7 years old and considered vintage. All I needed was a new battery. Since I put the new one in, it works like a champ.

Thank you for this video! I watched the whole thing, multiple times, as well as others. Yours was the most accurate to my situation, and it greatly helped, since I had never performed this sort of replacement before. My replacement battery was slightly different, but I used the same spatula tool here. One tip I found on another video that helped me was to spray a little rubbing alcohol on the spatula when inserting it to cut the adhesive, and that worked well for me. I only used a tiny drop here and there (I didn't want to get it inside the components), and it significantly softened the adhesive to make cutting through it easier. Favorite animal: Hawk. Favorite color: Velvet Black.

Just followed your guidance to replace my battery. My kit came with a small & large pry tool, the smaller of which I was able to use to easily pry up multipin connector and the larger one with which I slid under the batteries to remove them one by one. I then soaked the adhesive residue with a swab soaked in Goof-off which liquified the adhesive and allowed me to easily wipe it all off with a paper towel. I was done before you finished scraping yours off. Cheers

Thank you so much for taking the time - it's really appreciated. Like others here, I let the video play while I was removing the sticky pads - it feels like you're working with a companion instead of solo. I (carefully) used an old putty scraper and some rubbing alcohol to remove the old pads - effective but time consuming - but if a job's worth doing...

Fantastic "Show & Tell"! And yes, the most time consuming aspect is the removal AND the cleaning of the left over tape strips. I used a bit of "Goo- B- Gone" to help in cleaning off the left over strips. Thanks Mucho!

Checked battery health and it says normal, instead of service. It's the exact same laptop in your video. The little trick you mention plugging the battery plug in was awesome, was so scared to bend those pins. Line up, corner first, level, then gently push and pop! The authorised apple repairer refused to repair it because it's over 7 years old. Apple tells them to "encourage the customer to upgrade and buy a new one". I ain't paying 4K for another one if it's just a battery issue. Good as new now. Cheers mate!

I mix a 50/50 99% ISO Alcohol and Industrial strength Goo-Gone solution. Using a Q-tip I completely saturate all the adhesive residue; carefully watching for where excess flows. I wait 10-15 minutes and come back with a metal scrape tool and it all comes off like butter. Reduces swap time. I repair Macs and need to be efficient with time per repair. I have also had new batteries that arrive DOA. As a result, I always connect the battery to the board before I remove adhesive so I can test it. I look for the "Condition Normal" before I commit to adhesive. Too many "service Battery" indicators after new battery installation...Thank you for your videos, very helpful!!

@@ItsBinhRepaired Well, will say it again... this is, by far, the best video I have watched and I would be quite happy to undertake this repair having watched it a few times. Just deciding if I actually need to do anything at this stage as I rarely use the laptop on the battery... But, the original battery was replaced under warranty and they (Apple) said the original battery had swelled up and would have caused damage if it had been left much longer before being replaced, so maybe, that is also something to consider?

@@slicker55 thanks! Haha I've had some customers with batteries so swelled the trackpad got pushed out of the computer. If your trackpad stops clicking, you definitely want to change the battery.
