I've been playing over 60 years and I'm still learning, thanks to ArtOfDrumming. Although I don't care for stacking, I do respect it as another way of playing. Thank you for trying to cover all areas of drumming without showing any favoritism. The nice thing about playing drums is the fact that there are thousands of combinations of ways and equipment to make your favorite sound. Thank you.
1) İstanbul Agop Xist 10” Dry Dark Splash on top and İstanbul Agop Xist 10” Natural Splash bottom like hihat. 2) İstanbul Agop Xist 17” Ion Dark Crash on top and İstanbul Agop Xist 16” Brilliant China bottom. 3) İstanbul Agop Xist 17” Ion Dark Crash on top and İstanbul Agop Xist 17” Natural Crash Bottom like hihat. Incredible sound!
I really missed a mention to Bozzio as a truly stack forefather. He has been playing those combinations since the 80's or even before. For example he uses a lot of these sounds in the Polytown album. PD: Please excuse my english xD
Low volume cymbals are good for making more washy/static sounds in stacks while not being too loud. I'm using 14 inch low volume hats with a 10 inch low volume splash underneath and ankle bells on top.
I get nervous about hitting edges as well, but for larger stacks, my favorite is probably the smaller China over larger crash stack that Dave Weckl and Sonny Emory use. Terry Bozzio used to use a similar stack but with two 18" cymbals that I really liked as well.
I guess the possibilities are nearly endless :) always fun to try new combinations and get inspired by new sounds. Even though stacks usually sound kind of similar each one has its very unique characteristics in my opinion 👍🏻 Thanks for sharing your favorites!
My own stacks mostly were made with whatever cymbals I already had that weren't getting used, so they aren't the ideal sounds, but they're adequate. I use an 8" over 10" splash stack for a hand clap sound, 8" trash hats (mini China top, mini hat bottom), and 12"/13" trash hats (splash or hi-hat top, Wuhan-style China bottom). If I ever get a 14" China, I'll do the Weckl stack.
I love using stacks in beats where a china might be too much but a hihat just doesn't cut it. A small stack is also a great add with a splash as an accent on fills etc.
My favorite stack cymbal is a Trash Stack! I use two Trash Stack cymbals so that I can provide some sort of skipping sound. Example: 1 2, 1 2, 1 2, 1 2, 1 2, 1 2.
Great Video again, but i can also Highly recommend a bigger Crash with holes on Top of a smaller crash with holes mounted on a x-hat stand like a pair of hihats. A lot of air can Come in then and you have More volume than with splashes. In my case in Works Great with the paiste pstx
👍🏻 thanks for the idea and sharing your personal favorite. I guess the options are endless and it‘s always fun to try new ones. New sounds always inspire me and come with new playing ideas ;) Hope you are doin well Dennis!!
I started stacking cymbals 5 years ago to repurpose broken ones. Now I have a 18" Classic Custom Extreme China under a 18" AAXplosion Crash. Out of the box stacks are most of the time too expensive for what it is in my opinion.
Useful video! This is something i haven't really thought about doing. I have a cracked Zyldjian Avedius 16 crash which is cracked so want to stack it. What cymbals are best to stack with this?
Hey! In case you sampled these stacks seperately I would love to have them to use in my Roland TD-17! The china and stack sounds are really lacking unfortunately. Let me know if we have a deal! :-)
Bill Bruford used amazingly a very stack-sounding trashy cymbal in 1974 on the album "Red" by King Crimson, and he said that he went to Paiste and told them that "this is the hottest new thing, everyone is gonna want this", but apparently Paiste didn't listen and they were just like "yea whatever".
For me cymbals with holes work best because the air is not trapped between the two cymbals. This often causes some disgusting tones. If cymbals lie flat on top of each other or if you enable the air to exit, this problem should not be that big 👍🏻
One drimmer said it great....his stack is his most expensive cymbal on the kit and it sounds like a trash can haha. I love the benny greb style though so i bought two 16" o-zones in a x hat formation
cymbal stacking was made a thing by kids like me in the 70s who could not afford a china type. Now tyhey make tons off them by idiots. buy cheap cymbals and stack them. Jesus tighten that snare!

Stacks are great. Started using them about 5 years ago. Make great quick accents to alone or incorporate with splashes.
Since 2000 Mike portnoy are using

Nice one, love that spiral/ozone/splash hat stack!
So many great aspects to this video, great stuff! Had to rewind some of those grooves ✌️
Yeah!
Great to hear that
Have fun making those ideas your own! :)
Amazing snare sound!
Thanks!
I‘m really happy how both the snares of that set turned out! :)
Nice Video, and cool to see you in front of the camera, Andi!

I need the Spiral Stacker. Very nice video!

great bassdrum sound!

That was a fantastic video wow that's awesome Tim from Australia .
Thanks 🙏 for your feedback Tim!
Great video guys! Also, the drums sound awesome - of course Andy is a big part of that too
Thanks a lot
Pretty amazing how big this small kit sounds right?😄
@@ArtOfDrumming yes, that’s really surprising 🥁
Drumset sounds great honestly!
Thanks!
I‘m also very happy how big this small kit sounds 😄
amazing helpful content, i liked and probably will be using all the ideas apart from the hi hat, really good stuff, cheers man.
Oh shit cuz!! The ft/stack on 2+4 was hype. China stack was deadly too

Found Sound stacks FTW
Great information! I like to stack everything.
That's it, I'm buying a trash stack!!!! 😍😍
Useful video! This is something i haven't really thought about doing.
I have a cracked Zyldjian Avedius 16 crash which is cracked so want to stack it.
What cymbals are best to stack with this?
i got a 12in agazarian china i like and i'm lookin for the crash out there for it cuz i know it exists out there somewhere :)
Superb!😎🥁
Thanks! :)
Excellent man🙏🏽

my favourite stack is just placing a 6' or 8' inch splash underneeth my ride. I get a beautiful sizzling tone and a eletronic tone when i chrash it up

u should recreate the snare sound of the 1st korn album the self titled, plss
How do you manage the irritating overtones? Are there some settings to follow to prevent them?

@@ArtOfDrumming Very interesting. It totally makes sense. Danke schön!
What's your snare head model in this video?
That's the stock head that cme with the kit
Hi @ArtOfDrumming! I share this video on my channel! It's great and inspirational video 😉 Terry Bozzio would be very happy!
Hey Luciodrum87 👋, thanks for your feedback and for sharing our video!
@@ArtOfDrumming it's a pleasure for me! 😉
What kind of stand do i need for a stack? Can someone please send me an example?
very good!
What is that bass drum??
What China is that??
Without the Trashformer, the foot pedal lets the hihat breathe. With it, it sort of gasps.
I don't have any stack cymbals, which one I should buy?
Very cool
One drimmer said it great....his stack is his most expensive cymbal on the kit and it sounds like a trash can haha. I love the benny greb style though so i bought two 16" o-zones in a x hat formation
...nice Video and very cool stuff, habe deinen Kanal gleich mal abonniert !!!
Danke dir Michael!
Kik drums sound very good lowd uffff
Is very difficult stack with china wuhan cymbals. The bell is very big.
Is it bad for my cymbals to do?
DPA
14 inch oriental china with a 12 inch k dark splash ;-;
Thanks for sharing - we will definitely try this one 👍🏻
I don't get stacks. They do nothing except to make clicking noise. A tamborine would be cheaper.
