    Comment for viewers / newbies, from a 18 year veteran player. Play as much as you can. You WONT win every game, you will lose a lot at first, but every loss will make you better. Pick 1 of the summon types and, learn the others from playing friends. Usually synchro or XYZ is the way to go here. Link is easy to summon, but having to place monsters in set zones to get their effects, is tough even for normal players, definitely not a good way to begin learning the game. And most importantly, HAVE FUN! Have fun, play all you can, and the wins will come naturally once you have some experience. I hope this helps, new duelists!

    • @four-en-tee
      @four-en-tee Год назад +2

      Says you, link summoning is stupidly easy and Evil Twins was the first deck i learned after Dark Magician when i started playing in 2021.
      Generally, you just want to look for an archetype that's easy to play if you're trying to ease yourself into a new mechanic for the first time. Either that, or you could be a crazy person like me and dive head first into Vaylantz for your first pendulum deck.

    One more thing;
    If you are looking for a slower entrance into the game rather than jumping into current the format, you can check if your local game store runs alternate formats like Edison, Goat, or Speed Duel.
    These formats are much easier to learn from scratch and you can learn the fundamentals of how the game works before diving into the modern game.

      That is not how it used to be. Play one of the video games (the real ones not the spinoffs) from 2005-2011 and you'll see what the game used to play like.

      Funny you mentioned the comparison to Poker. I got back into Yu-Gi-Oh after a long hiatus from the game two years ago, simple because I heard there were new support for the Arcana Knights (King/Queen/Jack's Knight.)
      I looked up a random decklist using that archetype and stuck to it until I knew it inside and out, and it taught me how to work with the modern mechanics.

    when my friend first started to play in 2019 i gave him a list of 30ish cards he should buy with the most important one at the top (hand traps, kaijus and general blow out staples) and he bought them all, he didn't understand why at first but he trusts me and it was cost effective due to the release of duel dev, bro said it was the best move he ever made in this game and I still do the for new duelist to the day. in DEC 2023 I told a new duelist to buy a box of the 25th collection and some singles to round it out if he didn't get everything he needed

    Woah woah woah Monkey Man, the art is the best part of the Traptrix deck. It's done by veteran artist Akina Fujiwara whom is also responsible for the art of the Charmers, my favorite archetype in terms of art. Konami managed to sell some of the worst structure decks ever made off the back of getting random chances at getting more of her art on promos, playmats, and token cards (worked too, I NEED a complete collection of her charmer art). She also did some of the ghost girl and Gishki cards, as well as a lot of art for many video games like the Final Fantasy series. Shocker coming from a fellow Ghost Trick enjoyer, another archetype with amazing art (unless you actually don't like their art and only enjoy them because you like flipping cards face down and alt win conditions, in which case I don't even think the priests of the Lightsworn can save you...).
    I actually think not getting every card is a big advantage for Master Duel. Having to work for the cards and start out building incomplete decks is a good way to begin learning. Plus since every card takes a lot of work, it makes you value them more. If a card isn't working, there's no hesitating, you've poured hours into the deck and it's got to go. Find something good and you will not forget that card. Plus if you get lucky on a pack and get a bunch of rare cards you might try an archetype you've never touched before. It's how I got into Element Sabers, Magikey, and Dual Avatar, all of which have been a lot of fun and expanded my view on different engines.
    My advice for somebody picking a deck is to share the link to the Master Duel Meta secret pack list. I just tell em' that they should click on any pack that looks cool and open it in a new tab, then just go with the one that speaks to ya the most. The secret packs are pretty good at giving you the full win condition and engine package, so all the person needs to do is practice with it. As long as it's a deck they enjoy, they do a better job putting up with any of the frustrating points, and eventually get to the point where they either choose to go full on rogue, or switch over to a meta deck. Good news is most decks these days are pretty competent, so if they don't feel like going full on dedicated, they can just casually enjoy the deck they like.
    Good job with the budget breakdown. Funny thing is I was recently sorting my collection and realized I have pretty much everything I need to build a dino deck. Maybe not at full power, but it's crazy just how many loose dino cards that can work as engine pieces are all over the place. It's only helped by Wild Survivors and Duelist Nexus offering even more dino cards at common to just float around (so something good came out of Wild Survivors). Other than that, I'd say Skull Servants is the king of budget decks, and has been that way since the goat days.

    • @MonkeyFightTCG
      @MonkeyFightTCG  Год назад +1

      The issues with the traptrix art come from the newer arts. I understand the theming but it's still a bit much.
      fair point with the master duel collecting aspect. However for me personally i hate playing in formats suboptimally.
      dinos are a timeless classic deck. one of the best structure decks konami ever made.

    While it's quite outdated, I feel like Yu-Gi-Oh Legacy of the Duelist Link Evolved was a great starting place for me getting back into the game and would be good for anyone trying to learn it. You can complete the story mode in a few days, learn all the summoning mechanics, and get a brief overview of many archetypes (though outdated ones). While it isn't particularly challenging, it was enough for me to be confident in the mechanics of the game. Arguably, the solo mode of Master Duel provides a similar experience, but offers far less of a retrospective experience on the game's progression. The biggest downside outside of the older archetypes is the lack of hand traps in the main modes, but it's still worth a shot for a guided experience that lets you try lots of decks.

    I know when it came to me to coming back to playing to Yugioh I can say that I pretty much did some of the things that were mentioned here for example I wanted to play with a Warrior deck cause I always liked Warrior type monsters and well after looking for a while I saw one that caught my eye and that was Amazoness, I watched a deck profile video about them keep in mind at the time this was before Darkwing Blast came around and Amazoness gotten new support for it's archetype. So, after a while I wanted to test this deck out to see how it plays and that is when I said forget Duel Links and Master Duel I don't feel like I want to grind to try out the cards I already have in rl that's when I saw Edo Pro and ever since then I always use Edo Pro to test out the deck I saw on deck profile videos and after playing a few games and decided I liked the cards I just went to TCG and bought singles for the cards I need.
    I wanted to tell how I got back into Yugioh by doing some of the things that were mentioned in this video and also something else to mention as well if you are not to sure what else you can buy for sealed stuff, keep in mind I am mostly talking about for the casual side of things not the competitive side, I would say you could also buy Speed Duel boxes to help build some your card pulls but this depends on what your looking for when it comes to this since Speed Duel is its own thing when you comapre it to TCG or Master Duel.

    • @MonkeyFightTCG

This is a good video and I shared this with some friends of mine.

    Another note for new & (especially) returning players: DON'T try to learn every summoning mechanic at once. Instead use a free sim to test a deck or two of that summoning mechanic to get comfortable with it first, before moving onto the next. This will make it take a bit longer to learn, but keep you from being overwhelmed with all the quirks and intricacies of them.

    Here recently I have really wanted to get in to TCGs because I love RogueLike Deckbuilder games, and it seems like a lot of them are basically based on TCGs so stupidly I downloaded both YuGiOh and Magic last week. Then kind of got lost. I will say YuGiOh is much smarter in how they give you a bunch of gems easily to kind of get you hooked on the dopamine hits of pulling cool cards and unlocking secret decks. But I was overwhelmed trying to learn both at once. I think I am just going to stick with YuGiOh for a bit, I really like the art style of YuGiOh better. This video kind of made me decide for sure to learn yugioh first. So. Thank you for helping a very indecisive ADHD brained dude like myself in to making an actual decision. That and I have about 4k gems to blow in YuGiOh now I just need to learn the smart way to spend them in game. Most bang for buck, if you know what I mean!

    As long as you go in with the expectation that games don't go past turns 3-4 and that you'll be expected to learn a lot of archetype match-ups (similar to fighting games like Smash Ultimate), you'll generally have an okay time getting into Yugioh. Its more or less how i approached the game for the first time in 2021.
    Word of advice: main deck Feather Duster. You'll thank me later, RNG's a bitch and your deck should have enough starters, handtraps and/or extenders to where opening a single brick turn 1 doesn't matter that often. You never know when you'll run into a stun player, and its better to not be caught with your pants down. They generally won't run Solemn cards unless they're insane.
