    It's sad that the people making critical comments here don't get the fact that the audience at this concert came knowing just what to expect: a legend in his eighties who still had the energy to perform a full set on stage, who loved performing, who loved the music, who loved them. They loved him back. And that's why the rest of us are here watching this now.

      I came to find Gordon as a young man, and I bought a lot of his music before I was out of school, and I replaced it as it wore out down through the years. As a musician myself, I cannot say I know of any music artist who so prolificly wrote so much complex material, cut so many albums, toured so constanly, playing each song as if it were the album for us, and who poured as much of his heart into all of it as Gord did and has. He cared about the people who supported him. He is as much a fallible man and struggled with life's stuations as any of us, but few rise to the consistancy and delivered the excelence that Gord has, and we are lucky to have enjoyed all that he has shared with us. We know he is aged and tired, but that is just a facet of how remarkable a man he was. That's what Gord was made of, and we are sommehow made better because of his story and stories. Godspeed Gordon and thanks for everything!

      @@robertagallant3819 Gordon almost bled out, in 2002. I look at Gordon performing right up to the end, and his acceptance of what life dealt him, and his recovery, then going on to give back what God had Blessed him, with. It’s incredible how he still performed, in his frail state. I’m wondering if he had a cancer battle, at the end, also.

    In 1974 when I was 11 years old I bought my first new 45 rpm record and it was Sundown. I wore that record out and so began my lifelong love of Gordon Lightfoot. Yes his body is worn and his lungs are weaker but he is still sharing his gift with the world and I love him for it. What a treasure the man is. Thank you Yoonique Life for posting this priceless video. Made me feel like I was right there. He's still standing and singing at an age when most can't get out of their rocking chair. @@sweetcaroline2060 Nice try, but it's not about me. I share your admiration of Gordon Lightfoot and his music. But he's not doing his fans any favors by trying to do something he's not quite able to do anymore. It's like young Elvis vs. fat Elvis. Same guy but he wasn't able to do what he once was able to do. John Mellencamp is in the same boat. His voice is shot but he's still touring. On the flip side, I saw Al Stewart a few weeks ago (he's 77 now) and although he can't quite carry those high notes anymore he still has that same recognizable voice and put on an excellent show.

      If Leo the Lion wants to bash Lightfoot or make degrading comments or give a poor review to his performance, then he should be aloud to. It’s a free country, and he just like everyone else is entitled to his opinions and to express them freely. I mean to knock someone down just because they think Gordon Lightfoot was better in the 1960’s or 70’s than he is now is just plain stupidity. Music is in the ear of the beholder. What you might think was a great performance, or act, another might not and vice-versa. Yes there are people who disagree, and and may believe that Gord’s voice was better now and it was during the 60s when he was with United Artists, or the 70’s when he was at the peak of commercial success, or the 80s and 90s when he gave up drinking, and the pedal steel and orchestra were replaced by synthesizers and drum machines. It all depends on the tastes of the listener. I think when people read or hear comments like he’s old, or he should retire, and they tell them they’re wrong and that he loves what he’s doing and we love it too, they take it way too personally, and too seriously. I mean, is Gordon paying them to defend him or suck up to him??? Are they his agents??? I don’t understand why these type of comments offend them so much. These people who try to stand up for Gordon are what I consider to be “right-fighters” with serious issues. They believe they have to be right no matter what the topic, and think they are a lot more smarter and more intelligent than everyone else, no matter where they are, and that attending a Gordon Lightfoot concert makes them better than those who can't go for whatever reason, and don't want to, and as hardcore fans themselves, they I believe have an unhealthy obsession with Gordon which could be deemed as homoerotic, romantic, or as plain celebrity worship syndrome: an obsessive addictive disorder in which a person becomes overly involved with the details of a celebrity’s personal and professional life.. They should just consider themselves lucky they got to see him, when they had the opportunity, but also lighten up. There are billions of other things that fans, and people need to worry about and get upset over that are 100 times more important, than Gordon Lightfoot being bullied into retirement, disrespected as a legend and an icon, and have something he likes to do taken away from him due to poor performance or ageism, and criticism from former fans and haters. You tell people who bash him or pick on him to get a life??? We'll I think it's the other way around. Life is too short to complain or express sour grapes over the differences of others viewpoints, and besides unless some lunatic puts a knife to his throat, or a gun to his head, there is no way old GL will call it quits or hang it up. He is way too stubborn and tenacious to do that!!! If you try to post comments about people who don’t like Gord’s present day sound or appearance, in a critical or condescending way, you’d be much safer keeping your thoughts about these people to yourself, as you never know what some of them might want to do to you later on

      @@ElChupacabra77B Well put. He's definitely lost a lot of power in his voice over the last 30+ years, and given a choice, I'd say I prefer his voice from the 1972 - 1982 period more than anytime before or after. That being said, certain songs actually lend themselves to the way he sounds now, i.e. "I'll Tag Along", which is more "delicate". A song like Sundown, probably not. The gist of my comment was also comparing his voice from this performance with others I've heard in the last year or so. Compared to some of those, he sounds good here. I also agree that he's likely to die on stage when he's 94, or when he outlives all his remaining bandmates!

    This song is one of the greatest in the history of recorded music. The version we all know is THE FIRST TIME they ever played The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald. However, the Gordon Lightfoot shown here is a desiccated shell of his former self. This is what smoking does to genius talent. He smoked cigarettes to the very end.

    Aging is never pretty. This performance is no exception. Father Time always wins and he’s stolen Gordon’s vocals chops. This was painful to watch and even harder to listen to. Still, it is great he is still with us and able to give his fan’s an opportunity to share his legacy with him.

      A lot of the way Gord looks and sounds isn't from aging, but from the near-fatal aortic aneurysm in September 2002, that wasted his body, voice and strength, and left him in a coma for 6 weeks. He never regained the weight he lost. The fact that he's still with us is a testament to his endurance. I saw him in his 1st concert tour in Vancouver (2006) after he recovered. Shocked and saddened to see what it had done to him, his performance was still good, considering what he'd undergone. I'm grateful for every note he sings because just over 20 years ago might have been his last. At 84, he's a survivor who knows how lucky he is.

    The world's most depressing song, about people dying in a storm. "C'mon kids, let's all sing along to this".

    • @pamelavarilone2614
      @pamelavarilone2614 Год назад

      The song is a memorial tribute to the 29 souls who lost their lives serving aboard the workhorse of the Great Lakes, the Edmund Fitzgerald. It is not entertainment, but a testimony to them so they will never, ever, be forgotten. Every penny Mr. Lightfoot earned from this song was given to the families of the sailors, as was all rights to publication. Now you know.

    • @terry7893

      @@pamelavarilone2614 It's nice that he did that, but I would have preferred a 2 hour TV documentary, and not a song about it. Nobody wants to hear a song about a plane crash where everyone on board gets killed by drowning in the ocean. It's just downright depressing.

    • @sharonm2799

      It may be a song about dying in a storm but it's also a song about one man's compassion for the suffering of others.
      The event may be depressing but the song elevated and immortalized it. I read that Gordon kept in contact with the families of the sailors and would attend memorial events a day early so he could spend time with them. After his death, they said he was like family.

      @@sharonm2799 A movie is fine; it's something that you watch that actually happened. But to make a song and sing about it?? Could you imagine a song about the Titanic.
