If you use this, please post your recording as a video response! My authentic orchestral instrumental karaoke (no voice) rendition of "Stars" from Les Miserables. I am a composer and producer who creates music for film and television. I enjoy producing the most realistic sounding renditions of orchestral music. This version of "Stars" is incredibly authentic and has an absolutely realistic orchestral sound. Broadway / recording quality.
While Valjean has the prayer "Bring Him Home", this song is Javert's prayer. Javert's strength is also his curse; he cannot see beyond the black and white belief that there exists only "right" and "wrong", as it is written on the doorways to paradise. This is why Valjean represents such a dilemma to him; because Valjean does things that are so just, and so righteous, also in the name of God - but Javert cannot allow himself to get past his straightforward duty. In this song, he prays to God for help finding Valjean. He uses the stars as an analogy of that which is steady, predictable and reliable, as he sees himself.
Enjoy. This level of realism takes a painstaking amount of time and effort.

I'm home alone singing through the whole show. I have a terrible voice but I love to sing and I enjoy singing just as much as talented people do! Just have to be courteous and wait until they're out of the house haha.

As a soprano, the best discovery I have ever made is that I can sing along with this an octave higher. Now I’m sitting on the floor singing and pretending to be an obsessive police officer in 19th century France. Yay. 😂

Thank you for that! It's nice to know it's noticed. I find many times instrumentals are about "quick" turn around - get it done, get it out there. But I'm an ARTIST as much as I am a "karaoke" guy, and I'm a COMPOSER, so to me, the details are what give the musical tapestry its beauty. It may take me longer than normal, but I think the result is worth it.

Great job on this one as well. Really impressive.
It seems that after knowing this music inside-out, it becomes a very strong experience to listen to it without the vocals. It causes you to hallucinate the familiar vocal, it's a strong stimulus that makes you brain sing and join the harmony of your beautiful rendition and score.

Listening to the orchestration alone makes me realize that "Stars" sounds something like the music of Charles Gounod, the 19th century French composer who wrote the opera FAUST.
That's right, there is something in that. When musicals carry forth the traditions of the great composers of the past, they tend to bring musical inspirations that help them last for years, as this show has. Les Miserables the musical, along with Phantom of the Opera, is what I call Opera Light.

what a lovely instrumental. i'm going to try and do a cover of this song, hope to do it justice. i'm so terrible at following the music though, and this is already so much easier than the other songs :X if you could make the words appear line by line in time with the music it'll be great! for future tracks that is. that would help heaps :)
