I wish more docs knew how to treat this
Same! Or even knew what it was. My gf has been having these symptoms for 3 years. All western doctors would do was put her on different medications to try and treat it. It wasn't until a year ago she had 1 appointment with a natural path doctor and they said it's most likely sibo.... its been a year since that appointment and still working on it, but at least she has an idea of what is going on 😊 good luck to you!
@@ryanandrews600 I went a solid decade. Started with sibo-d. progressed to c they just basically gave up after 2 rounds of the strong abx
See Dr Alison Siebecker, Dr Rajsree, Dr Mark Pimentel 💪⚡❤️
I've seen people say they've noticed improvements after taking probiotics, especially from natural whole foods or fermented foods.

Buy some Ginger or Articoke extracts. These will stimulate the migrating motor complex (area in the small intestine). You can also look into Vitamen B1/Thiamen (get a B complex), some people use B complex like Benfotiamine, these will help the Vagus Nerve (the nerve responsibilities for the connection between gut and brain).
I'm so glad you're doing this video, I have recurring SIBO and I've never seen anyone say anything about it!
OH MY GOSH YES! I got diagnosed with SIBO a couple of years ago (couldn't get the antibiotics cause insurance and money, so I'm just using FODMAP to manage the symptoms until I can get the antibiotics) but I'm so glad to hear SOMEONE talking about this!
So many doctors I've seen (in non-GI fields) had no clue this was even a thing.
How you doing now with fodmap Diet?
Wait but what are the cheaper, also effective options?
Intense probiotic, prebiotic and immune system cocktail and if that does not work fecal microbial transplants. Antibiotics at the end of the day can be really bad for the gut.
Augmentin, doxycycline, sometimes ciprofloxacin
I'm not sure if it was the amount of time that had passed or if it actually worked, but I took oregano oil supplements and switched to a 60 billion CFU probiotic and went keto for 30 days. Still doing the probiotic and haven't had another flare
@Henrik Arlo Yea, been using Flixzone for years myself :)
@@americanbobtail1 my man if you have bacterial overgrowth why in the hell would you take a probiotic

Mine too!!
Mine is very extreme. I lose weight in minutes in the face. I feel like lava, itching, sometimes I can’t breathe. Constantly hungry, constantly always feels like I gotta go to the bathroom. I can’t do normal activities or anything.
Mines the same, how do we get rid of it
High dose *Oil of Oregano* is a WONDERFUL way to fix this, just be sure to follow up with kiefer to reculture!
Exactly what I was thinkin. Anytime I take antbiotics it feels like I just swallowed a handful of tacks. Painful.
Can it be cured permanently with the help of oregano oil?
Yes, until the next strong antibiotic knocks out your good GI flora again. Question: do you still have an appendix? @@sagarikasubudhi151
I went to the only doctor in my very populous area that has the type of equipment that can take samples during endoscopy and even he couldn't do a culture. Even when covered by insurance the endoscopy (which was only going to take tissue samples) was going to cost me $800).
So I don't know who's actually doing those cultures, but let's just say it's not what I would call accessible in the US. Breath testing was accessible, but not covered by insurance at all. So right now both testing and treatment is highly limited despite the fact that IBS (which is probably mostly due to SIBO) is extremely common. I've basically had to both diagnose and treat using antimicrobial herbs, which are expensive but some of which are quite powerful. Even though I can keep it in check like that, I haven't found anything that helps remedy the problems in motility (and trust me, neurologists are just not there yet). I'm glad it's being considered a real condition now at least (by most), but medicine has LONG way to go to help people like me.
Do a shorts on acute SIADH. I've subbed. I'm waiting lol
I think I have a really severe case of SIBO(I have got all symptoms and have lost lots of weight). I found out about it the other day. I have been waiting years to get diagnosed with something and I think this is it. I already take probiotics so that's good. I reckon I've got post infection IBS too. This video really helped me understand SIBO more. Thanks.
I’m with you mine is extreme as well. I lose weight in minutes, I feel like lava, some breathing issues, can’t do certain activities & I can’t wear certain things/garments. I can’t workout, everything constantly changes for the worse with me. I had parasites before but a long with it & it took a long time to rid parasites & I probably still have them, now it’s like 2 against 1. The parasites gave me the bacteria & led on with SIBO.
Be careful with probiotics if your doctor isn't prescribing them as some can further increase the overgrowth symptoms even if they are "good" bacteria.
Does it stand to reason that SIBO could be caused by the destruction of good bacteria after taking a 3-4 week course of Augmentin for persistent sinus infections?
You explain really well doc
Doc out here educatin & doin The Lord’s work. Thank you!
Would love to hear your thoughts on FODMAP diet
I cured my Sibo symptoms by eating nothing but fruit and fruit juice that I juiced myself for two weeks straight. No more symptoms at all while eating only fruit and when I started back eating normally, I had a normal amount of gas but no bloat and nothing like before. I cut out the things that caused the most gas and bloat which was Kale, seaweed and over eating nuts. I don’t eat meat at all and I think Carnivore diet only works as long as you’re on the diet but will return after you start incorporating other foods. It only took me two weeks to cure although I recommend going as long as you can. The fruit only was an immediate relief from SIBO symptoms. I hope it can work for you too
Don't get that prescription. It's the price of a road bike, and the pills are impossibly huge. They need to stop suggesting it or complain to the manufacturer.
Another cheap somewhat effective option and especially good if antibiotics didn't work for you is simply to take the prep for a colonoscopy or take the maximum dosage of movicol for a few days until your poop is yellow water. Eat a low residue diet while this happens so everything clears out. My doctor prescribed this for me after rifaxamin failed to solve my issues and it has helped a lot. I also take a small dose of movicol regularly to prevent it from coming back. I have mild gastroparesis from MCAS so doing this just helps keep my bowels moving to avoid overgrowth. Its a very low tech and affordable solution. Just talk to your doctor to make sure they manage your electrolytes and have you on the right sort of laxative (osmotic not stimulant) so that it doesn't damage your guts natural ability to move food as can happen with stimulant laxitives if used for a long time.
Thank You very informative ❤️
studying for step 2 and this was perfect!
Thank you so much, I had to do a breath thing where you blow up ghe bag in my drs office I had no clue what it was for or to rule out, but now I know.
I actually ended up taking the test and they told me that anything over a 5 is bad...
I got a 62 😂
Can gastroparesis be a factor in SIBO?
Wondering that myself. My digestion is super slow.
Yes! My doctor believes my SIBO is caused by gastroparesis and it is extremely common in the gastroparesis community.
Hey dr if u get antibiotics how can u stop it from coming back? Just eat healthy or is there something specific u should follow
What antibiotics did you take?
Could you talk a little faster? I was having a hard time keeping awake while you explained to me the problem 😊
Just increase the video speed bro ;)
No kidding
Whenever I hear “GI” I think “Global Illumination
I poop once or twice a week, sometimes longer. Is this bad for me?
Can this be caused by food poisoning?
Can you make a video on the more affordable treatments of SIBO?
What’s the second best option medication to treat it??? The first one is way too expensive and not covered by insurance…
Could an umbilical herniation cause or worsen SIBO?
Whats the cheaper option that still effective?
I had this a couple months ago and I got sick so many time over 12 months, it cause my immune system to shut down 😅. Anyways took a boat load of antibiotics and I'm good now
What antibiotics did you take?
The price of rifaximin in the us is fucking insane, esp considering how cheap it is to produce. My doctor prescribed it but insurance wouldn’t cover it so my dad (who’s a doctor) ordered it from Canada, so I got more than enough for over 10x cheaper (I think 100 pills was like $150? Compared to 28 for over 1500)
The way you said "So why do people get it?" makes it sound like people purposefully buy it or something.
What are the cheaper but effective options please?
Augmentin, doxycycline, sometimes ciprofloxacin
Can it cause chronic constipation?
That's my issue
Sometimes gastroparesis causes constipation & sibo at the same time. Gastroparesis is slowing of the digestive track and can be caused by many disorders.
Does SIBO affect other neighboring organ symptoms? Like liver, pancreas, uterus ovaries etc?
No SIBO only affects the small intestine
@@Doc_Schmidt thank you!! Love your videos!!
What's the difference between SIBO and diverticulitis?
Thank you for discussing this The family doctor thought it was some made up thing by naturopaths LOL
Where a can make thet test
Does fasting cure this and keto
Can a hernia operation cause SIBO?
Wouldn’t it make sense to tell you what the cheaper options are than to simply mention that 🤦♂️
Is feeling full all the time Sibo?
Sigh... sibo is my name :(((
How r u doing now😢
Hair loss, mood, skin. I think I'm severely infected.
U talking bout the H. Pylori test?
No he's not. H. Pylori infects the stomach and leads to symptoms like heartburn/reflux and stomach ulcers.
Antibiotics are available in the uk, we have a modern health care system that covers everything unlike third world America
Stool test show this?
Have this
I have scleroderma and we get sibo alooottttttttttt
You explained in 60 seconds what other struggle to explain in 10minutes.
Please don't forget to mention, 75 percent of people treated have reoccurrence. This is normal. Treat again.
Why does food stay in the small intestine longer than it should???
Normally because the nerves in the gut aren't functioning optimally so its a brain / nervous sysyem issue that becomes a gut issue. Interestingly the gut microbiome also impacts our neurotransmitters so the gut and brain and connected in more ways than we understand. When your gut moves very slowly this can eventually be diagnosed as gastroparesis. Some people have such severe gastroparesis their gut doesn't work at all and they need a feeding tube or TPN. But lots of people have mild gastroparesis which just leads to a lot of gut troubles including SIBO. There is a test called a gastric emptying study that tests for gastroparesis although some doctors simply diagnose based on symptoms.
@@sammylincroft hey, thank you for the explanation, I learned something new today… I will look more into gastroparesis
Is SIBO connected to Colon Cancer?
They can’t determine this. If you have too much inflammation it’s linked
Man wouldn’t it be great if insurance just, insured?
And.....those would be???
Keep saying your big words funny man
Rifaximin 550mg tab costs 2 cents in my country.
Aaaand it's $2900 for 60tab in USA
Mexico?
rifaxamin rarely cures this
Butt tube or breath test... 🤔 I think I'd go with the breath test.
😂😂😂 seriously, don’t blame ya
Breath test is not as accurate unfortunately. Especially if you don't follow the eating instructions exactly as your doctor prescribes.
Why do people keep saying this is a man who ate there dad?
Oregano would be the antibiotic choice. But elemental diet for 2 weeks works better than anything.
Yeah I thought low FODMAP was the way to go first and then antibiotics complements it after a few weeks. So far I’ve not done either
.
Lost me at "antibiotics"
Oregano oil is a natural alternative you can try. Or some people use an elemental diet. My doctor prescribed me essentially the process of a colonoscopy prep to clear SIBO that recurred after antibiotics.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Please slow down, & take a breath 😂😅.
Wait but what are the cheaper, also effective options?
That'll be $100 for the cheaper medicine consultation, thank you.
Augmentin, doxycycline, sometimes ciprofloxacin
Moving to a different country.
