    I have a modified Ikea setup as described. Yes, it's a pain to move. If you need drawers, then the extra cost is justfied. Half the desk is on legs, with one leg in the middle as a support. It is really wobbly. Ikea countertops are not solid, and there's no weight to them.
    While I'm not totally sold on the Husky setup, It does look way more sturdy than my own desk.

    • @CodetheThings
      @CodetheThings  3 года назад +1

      Definitely looked a long time at doing the Ikea route. There are plenty of options for table tops, but it was hard to tell easily which were solid or not. Also, the need to stain and seal were a negative to me. Lastly, obviously I have an extreme setup compared to most, but clamping my monitors was a large concern with any of the setups since they had limited options for structural support in the center.
      With that said... I'll give it to you that if you need drawer space, you are going to be very limited with this comparitive to the ikea setups.

      If you get a tabletop over a certain length, it comes with pre-drilled holes for a middle leg. The lightness of the tabletop material and the legs are the weak points. I think it might be workable with drawers on either side, but only if that height works for you.

    Bro you're a genius.
    I was literally mid-checkout, about to put my credit card in to order a Flexispot desk for almost twice the price as this, when I somehow randomly saw this video. Went down to my local home depot and bought a 46-inch immediately after watching this video. Just got it setup and it's great! The desk feels SO solid, I love that it's actual wood instead of particle board. The manual crank is a bit more annoying than I expected, but on the other hand I love the simplicity of it. Anyways, THANKS for the tip!

      Glad I could help! A few others have mentioned you can get a really cheap drill to manipulate the crank if it starts to bug you. Overall, I can't believe how well this has worked out. I have a few monitors clamped to the rear and there's pretty much no wobble to them.

    I almost went with this desk. It wasn't deep enough (wanted 30"), it didn't raise up high enough, it was a manual crank, and the large support that runs along the middle of the underside of the desk was going to be in my way as I use a power wheelchair. I needed something solid that wasn't going to break the budget and after tons of research, I ended up going with the Topsky dual motor frame/legs off of Amazon. I wanted a solid top and so I purchased the WorkPro Flex Collection Rectangle Table Top, Gray) from Office Depot. It was on clearance and it didn't add much more to the total price. I added wheels and I LOVE it. This video along with a few others helped me see the pros and cons of the Husky work desk and if it would work for me. Excellent review!

    I have the 52" white version of this desk w/ drawers and it is great.
    I use a drill/driver with a 10mm hex bit to move it up and down in a few seconds. You can get a basic drill/driver and the needed bits for about $50; $100 if you get a good one. This makes the desk effectively electric and it goes up and down in about 10 seconds.

    I'm looking to get the same 72 inch desk, but the depth is holding me back, I have a 32 inch monitor (asus pb328q) and with the keyboard right in front I feel like it will be too close to the screen. This would be perfect if it had at least 30 inch depth.

      I tilt back a decent amoutn when I sit but I too was afraid of the distance. The only "tightness" is the fact I have 2 monitors connected to the desk higher than my 49inch. So I have to offcenter the 49 because the stands interfere. Honestly though, I love it so much I have 2 more appearing tomorrow for my wife and kid's desks. I've been very pleased.

      @CodetheThings  Год назад

      There are two models available. One with drawers and one without. I believe you'll find both online and in-store. The drawers make it less of a desk in my opinion. It causes the table to sit too high if you place your legs underneath.

  • @derrek54

    Question, When the desk is fully raised to the highest point, with monitors mounted on the back, is it still completely stable? I worry that when its raised to max height, and with mounted monitors more positioned to the back, that it may want to tip backwards. I would have my monitors further away from my face.

    • @CodetheThings
      @CodetheThings  3 года назад +2

      It's incredibly stable at max height. There's not a whole lot of stability difference low to high. Per any setup with desk mounted monitors there's always some wobble, but I'd say this has the least out of any desk I've used. I've grabbed another 3 of these for all of my desk and workstation needs

    Do you still use this set up? I was thinking about getting it, but hear a lot of people say it's something more for shorter people. I'm 6'0 and was wondering how tall you are? One of the reasons i want to get a standing desk is to help with my posture as my current desk makes me hunch over, even with my monitor stand at the highest it will go. Is the desk at max height in the video while you are standing there? It kind of looks short.

    • @CodetheThings

      This desk goes up to 42". According to the Ergotron Desk Height Calculator, that's only ergonomic if you're up to 5'5". If you're taller you will likely have poor posture while trying to stand at this desk.

    • @CodetheThings
      @CodetheThings  2 года назад

      I agree max height at 6'2" is probably the upper limit and ideally should top out at 6 foot. It works for me but I tend to use it when I don't have a ton of typing to do. If you use the casters you can cheat a few more inches.

    Hi sir, I’ve been checking these out for a bit now obviously not 2 years but around a year in a half. The question I have is when using the ultra wide do you feel to close to it? I’m looking at a 1800r 49inch monitor that’s within my budget of 800.00 but i don’t want to be so close to the monitor that i feel crowded for say. For me I think the 62inch would be perfect since I’d be buying two off brand Alex drawers and using them for my extended desk space if needed. Thanks and God Bless!

    • @CodetheThings
      @CodetheThings  2 года назад +1

      I'll be honest coming from an actual gaming desk it did feel closer. Part of my issue I use a desk clamp stand for a monitor above my G9 so the G9 doesn't quite sit as far back as it could (only by an inch or so).
      All that said I now own 5 of these for my home and I wouldn't go back. They have held up with no wobble or breakdown I've seen. I've also gotten used to the screen distance very quickly.

    • @CodetheThings
      @CodetheThings  2 года назад +1

      I'll note, I do lean back a bit more than the average person when I sit at my computer. It may be why I don't mind the depth.

    • @CodetheThings
      @CodetheThings  2 года назад +1

      @@stevenlucas7930 1800R would typically recommend further viewing distance than 1000R. There are distance recommendations, but it'll all depend on your preferences. Additionally things like what you're doing/playing will lend into comfort.
      My upper monitor is a 34 inch 1800R and the distance is still comfortable for me (though a smaller screen yes). My wife's work setup is 2 27 inch flat monitors (equal to a 49inch) side by side and her laptop screen. She has to turn her head a bit to view across the screens, but because it's work activities, it is not problematic.
      However, if she only had the two monitors, there would still have a minor head swivel left to right is my guess. Not sure if 1800R would make a difference at that range.
