POV appreciated as always. Will be marathoning series before seeing it 👌🏽
I loved the movie. I have no notes or complaints. Going in, I was a bit worried because of the Maze Runner movies, but my fears quickly evaporated when the movie unfolded. I hope this new Apes movies does well, I can't wait for the next installment. EDIT: One comment: You said about the bad guy/ape great "voice casting" it's not voice casting, it's a complete mo-cap performance, they don't only do the voice they do the whole performance/ acting! You know that, right? Big probs to WETA digital and the whole cast!
Great video as always!
I am a huge fan of the last trilogy so I am stoked to see this soon.
Curious to see how Wes Ball will handle the live action Zelda movie.
The Blu-Ray is supposed to have a stripped version with no FX when it releases. That already sounds pretty cool and worth checking this movie twice just to appreciate the craft.
It washed the horrid taste of the Fall Guy borefest out of my mouth. Can't wait to see it again, as well as next chapter in this franchise.
Mae is one of the few humans who has immunity from the virus. The other humans who survived are not immune and only survived by isolating themselves from the rest of the world. At least that's my interpretation, because there were immune humans in the previous movies too.
But I was also annoyed by the impossible water level rise lol
IMAX or Dolby to watch Kingdom?
I definetly recommend the first Maze Runner. Its like a Lord of the Flies within an intriguing Lost/Science Fiction frame. Specially remarkable to be his first movie.
Just saw the Kingdom of the Planet of Apes I must say it is much better than the last month Godzilla x kong both visually and in terms of content
Skipped Fall guy but went first day to watch this
People make the cinema going experience unwatchable. It's too expensive to have to deal with spoiled brats and vermin.
100%
I agree. With a good home setup, it’s a better experience.
Agree 1000%! BS
Where do you live? I have never had any problems in a theatre in my life.
Excited to take the family this weekend. I also can’t believe it’s been 7 years. Crazy.
Love the original films-they were my Star Wars as a young kid (I had the action figures, collector cards, coloring books, etc). I’ll definitely check this one out. The MoCap hasn’t gotten so good.
@6:24 yes they did. They even say in the movie that some humans survived the virus.
Thank you for this review, James!
i'm 61 I remember the Charlton Heston one and that ending I've never watched another one (are you still love Charlton Heston did you ever see the film Soilent Green? I'm sure you have. another Charlton Heston one involves ants I could you not.) I was just really downhearted. I lost a best friend family member. I'm so freaking sad and I saw someone on RUclips talking about the new movie so I just watched it and then I was completely entranced and watched some presentations on the planet of the apes all the different films synopsis and I enjoyed it so much. I don't wanna go see every film. I just don't, have any interest but I thought the synopsis on RUclips of each film some of these were phenomenal and really like with Sydney up I really enjoyed it and I'm actually considering seeing this one
Can we get a video ranking of all the Planet of The Apes films? Maybe a Wrong Reel about the franchise?
Aha! WR284❤
In my Top Ten Movies of 2024 (list subject to change):
-Civil War
-Late Night with the Devil
-Love Lies Bleeding
-Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
-Abigail
-Challengers
-Dune Part Two
Bear in mind, Dune Part Two is the only perfect film on this list. The rest are all flawed. 2023 was a better year in cinema.
I'm convinced there's a 3.5-4 hour version of this movie out there, the first half in particularly felt like it had a LOT cut out in post.
Caesar is like Imorden Joe in Fury Road.
Thanks James for the thoughtful review. I didn’t realize how long it has been since the last one. My parents took me to see the original, as a child. I remember was the endless sequels couldn’t hold a candle to the original
Its been a while since I watched the trilogy. Do I need to watch them before seeing this new one?
Fun review as usual!
You don't need to really but the trilogy is well worth watching. I think any negative reviews are due to the fact that the first two of those are basically classics. I would probably recommend you watch them first because the earlier ones will have more impact that way.
Def worth watching dawn and war at least.
@@bobbylambe4218 And watch Rise before you watch those two.
My hope,, is that if they decide to make this a trilogy. When the last film ends,, perhaps in an after credit scene, they introducing the same themes of the original planet of the apes. Where the spaceship has gone back in time. But from the original films,, I want all of the themes done better,,, if that is even possible. But I also want them to bring back the telepathic humans with the nuclear bomb. I’d like to learn more about these telepathic humans and their origins. How did they survive on a planet ruled by apes. What was their religion all about. How did they end up worshiping a nuclear device? How did they get their telepathic power? etc. I hope you understand what I mean. I hope it’s OK for a film lover to still have a dream.
at the end of the movie we see why Mae could still spread and why she could not rejoin them.
speak and rejoin her people.
Conquest (the 4th one) is a great movie especially the uncut version
The CG man... holy smokes
You need to be careful around those nasty theater's😂
Yeah I'm sold.
I may have to rewatch rise, dawn & war as this sounds worth a watch.💚🇬🇧🌱 Cheers James
In my opinion this guy is underselling it its a really good movie
what a wonderful movie.
You know what I get your sentiments on maze runner series.. But defo worthy of a lil watch, not amazing but decent..
Probably will wait for streaming
First maze runner is good
Your eye sockets looking fresh.

At the time it was announced that Tim Burton was going to remake POTA, he said, "If you remake a movie, you want the first one to have been bad." And he said that absolutely wasn't the case here and was asking for audience understanding. I wonder if that kind of wisdom even exists anymore in our overly remade movie world? I'm an Apes-fan from the first movie (Charlton Heston is head-turning-handsome even by our modern standards), and I'll be seeing this one in one form or another.
Kingdom is still a prequel to "Planet of the Apes" that we hope to finally see from this new franchise.
I saw it last night and it was great, recommend seeing in theatres if you're into that
Highly recommend the first maze runner, absolutely outstanding movie.
You're absolutely right, Maze Runner is crap
Agree. Solid movie. Would recommend. Water was stupid at the end. Wish Mae had not found the next human base… or the next human base posed a second question or mystery … like warring factions of humanity or humans mistrusting humans (like Fallout does).
I thought it was quite clear that she belonged to that base and was sent on a mission to gather the satellite technology, so she didn't just stumble upon it.
@@popcultureinc.853 Exactly, i wonder what people did, because it was obvious she had a agenda. Although people may disagree with me, but Mae was my favorite character.
Yes first movie is scary with out been Dark horror .. Apes chasing. the Humans throw the Corn field ... I thing he's trying to open A. Submarine Base its on the water
The name of this movie was a RLM joke like 6 years ago.
Very nice review. I saw it last night in IMAX with a respectful audience and no mice. Solid movie.
I think they purposely portrayed the human characters devoid of any personality to focus on the apes.
I was fine with that. We don't need to be the center of attention all the time.
I thought it was a bad mess from a story and plotting perspective. Ran at least 25 minutes, and probably 35 mins, too long. Very little of its internal dynamics, or the story teller's broader philosophy or insights, were fleshed out. For me as an outside to the franchise I spent most of the movie wondering what the hell the human and the apes were after.
A lot of annoying detail fails, too. Why was the main gate below sea level, for example, w/tanks and land-based craft on the ground floor? One of multiple major bumps in the piece. You named another w/the inexplicable water table rising hundreds of feet.
Beautiful world, though, and the motion capture + CGI were well done.
Maze Runner(s) was rubbish. Just too ridiculous
Hoping the next installment after kingdom will be "Planet of the Apes"
Nah I bet we don't get that till end of the trilogy at best, if not another trilogy or film entirely
@@rocksandforestquiver959 I'm actually thinking the same thing. At least one more before we get "Planet of the Apes"
@@RoseTorn411 I guess they came out and said this is intended to be movie 4 of 9 so I would probably say it's pushed to next trilogy
@@rocksandforestquiver959 😩😫
Meh. Was alive for the original five Planet of the Apes run. The revamp where the Green Goblin leads humanity to its end, has been hit/miss. One can only hope the horse 🐎 uprising begins.
Goddamn where do you live lol
Mice? Nope.
It's amazing how beautiful a woman can be with a few dirty brushes on her face. And it's amazing how after the fall of human civilization a woman can still manage tight form fitting appropriate clothing... Where's (old) Nova when you need her?
You obviously did not see the movie. LOL
@@justcallmebrian793 The Force is Strong with this One.
Rise, dawn, war are the best planet of the apes..it’s not even close
Yeah another box office disappointment it seems? Curse you Godzilla x Kong! You spoiled us, ruined everything coming out now, & yall still in the theaters byegod smh
with all due respect, this is a howler and the 2nd worst of the franchise
