Ray Stevens had some of the most brilliant songs, most of which would never be played on radio today. Ahab the Arab, The Streak, Guitarzan, Mississippi Squirrel Revival, and the there was Everything is Beautiful was a number one hit. He still writes and does some recording today, he is in his 80s.

He's really funny. You should also check out Mississippi. Squirrell Revival, The Streak, Deerslayer and It's Me Again Margaret. He's hilarious. This is mainly what he does. He also sings Gospel.

That's an old song from 1947. I'm 70 and my dad had that record on an old 78rpm single. Ray Stevens just did a remake. Loved hearing Ray do it again though.

You can not go wrong with ANY song by Ray Stevens. Some of my favorites have to be : The Day I Tried To Teach Charlene Mckenzie How To Drive, The Haircut Song and Dudley Dooright....but ALL of his songs are classics.

Hey Craig, I can relate! My grandmother and grandfather adopted 1 of my aunts 3 children since they had coal miner insurance and a couple of my cousins were sick. Then when my cousin had a premie 2 months early they also adopted their great grandchild. So legally my Aunt, her daughter and grandson were siblings. Then another aunt adopted her grandson so it started again. Two of my cousins married siblings so their children were double first cousins. My aunt heard me telling someone and told me to talk about my own damn family so I told her I think that is what I am doing. At least I am not my own grandma!

Ray Stevens is great!! He still performs and he has a little place called "Caba-Ray" outside of Nashville. He also has his own youtube channel called RayStevensMusic. He has a weekly 1/2 hour show on youtube where he highlights one guest every week! I never miss it!! Well worth checking out. A rabbit hole worth the journey! 😀😀

This song came from Guy Lombardo, and his "Royal Canadians" billed as "The Sweetest Music This Side of Heaven". Their signature song was "Old Langsyne", which is still played at midnight New Years eve to this day, but "I'm My Own Grandpa" goes back at least into the 1940s.
This was my first time hearing this song and it is immediately one of my favorites. I was very confused but I got to it at the end. 10/10 reaction.

Ray Stevens has always been a laugh riot. He's got a huge catalogue of comedy hits - take your pick, tho I'd suggestion Mississippi Squirrel Revival, The Streak, and It's Me Margaret to do next. He's irreverent, nearly insane, and can leave you gasping for breath! This is a rabbit hole that will lift your spirits :)

I have been listening to Ray Stevens since the 1960s. I don't think you could go wrong with any song Ray does, whether silly or serious. Love him! I appreciate this song since it makes my own convoluted family tree seem normal.

Harold Ray Ragsdale (born January 24, 1939), known professionally as Ray Stevens, is an American country, pop and gospel singer-songwriter and comedian, known for his Grammy-winning recordings "Everything Is Beautiful" and "Misty", as well as novelty hits such as "Gitarzan" "Ahab the Arab" "Jeremiah Peabody's Polyunsaturated Quick-Dissolving, Fast-Acting Pleasant-Tasting Green and Purple Pills"and "The Streak" and gospel songs including " Sunday Morning Coming Down" and "Turn Your Radio On" "Have A Little Talk With Myself/Just A Little Talk With Jesus" "Let Your Love Be A Light Unto The People" . At age 18, Stevens signed to Capitol Records' Prep Records division in 1957, and produced the single "Silver Bracelet", with a cover of "Rang Tang Ding Dong" as the B-side. The single was met with a positive review from Billboard.
Stevens signed with Mercury Records in 1961. He has received gold albums for his music sales and has worked as a producer, music arranger, and television host. He is also an inductee of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, the Christian Music Hall of Fame, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
His discography consists of 50 studio albums, 125 singles, 3 live albums, 67 compilation albums, 3 box sets, and 1 extended play and possibly more by now.
RAY-ality TV ended its digital TV run in January 2014. In March 2014, a webisode series, also titled Rayality TV was launched.In the debut "webisode," Stevens gets a speeding ticket and is sentenced to serve time at The Encore, a retirement home for entertainers.
"Over the years I have produced hours and hours of videotape and film footage for TV shows, TV pilots, movies, stage shows, concerts and music videos," says Stevens. "Recently I sorted it all out, linked it together with some new footage and produced a series of programs for the web titled 'Rayality TV.' It's fast, fun and funny. We'll be offering up a new 'webisode' each week for months to come. I hope you like it."
Stevens' new original series will run for 78 weeks with new installments going live on RUclips each Friday. The series features cameo appearances from many familiar faces including Bobby Bare, Louise Mandrell, Darrell Waltrip, Steve Martin, Ralph Emery and late music legends George Jones, Phil Everly and Andy Williams. Also in 2014 Stevens co-starred in the movie Campin' Buddies.
In 2015, Stevens began producing and hosting “Ray Stevens Nashville”, a 30-minute weekly music variety show on cable TV. Since then, the show has been rebranded as “Ray Stevens CabaRay Nashville” and is now filmed on stage at the brand new CabaRay Showroom, which opened to the public in early 2018. The show currently airs on PBS public television stations around the country.
Stevens published his autobiographical memoir Ray Stevens' Nashville in 2014.

The best Ray Stevens song, in my opinion, is "Shriner's Convention". He does a great collaboration, "Southern Air" with two other country comedians, Minnie Pearl and Jerry Clower. It's funniest if you're familiar with their comedy (and Ray Stevens' previous songs) as there are a lot of cameo appearances of well-known characters.
Craig, I consider myself a Ray Stevens afficionado, and if you are going to go down this rabbit hole, I love it. You should start with "Sittin Up With The Dead", "The Day I Tried To Teach Charlene McKenzie How To Drive", and "The Boogerman". The first two were radio hits, while the third is one of my favorites from an album.
