While it's not perfect, I think Watch Dogs 2 might be one of the better, if not currently best modern-era wanted system in an open world game right now. If there's something better, I'd love to see it. Rockstar could learn a lot using it as a basis, not just for law enforcement, but for NPC interactivity as well.

Omniscience in the setting of the game is also bad because it takes place in an older time period, but despite that, they can easily lock onto your location and seemingly know a lot of the time exactly where you are.
You should look at mafia definitive edition, while for some reason they removed the feature of you being able to stop people calling the police, a feature from mafia 3, they have a realistic policing system. You could also look at mafia 2 definitive edition policing, both of these games are modern, with the original mafia 2 being from 2010 and mafia definitive edition being from 2020.

Things I noticed that weren't pointed out in the video: 1) Cops won't react to you taking a parked police vehicle from a police station (it won't be marked red in net hack and therefore, isn't counted as owned by the PD). They will still react to you being in a restricted area depending on the station or location. The SF Transbay Terminal and the Oakland PD station near the seafood resturant in the port are the best places to reliably get a police car with no problems; It's basically yours. 2) Patroling Coast Guard boats may ignore you for some reason while on land but will react if an officer in a car/on foot notices you commiting a crime or you commit a crime on a boat. 3) OPD SWAT is seemingly under funded as their enforcers (riot cops) are never seen using U100 machine guns or AA-12 shotguns. They are still deadly but can be more easily overwhelmed, especially by criminal enforcers. 4) In car chases, SFPD will still set up roadblocks in Oakland despite OPD having juristiction in the East Bay. Technically in the state of CA, all agencies can work together regardless of location but usually if the incident spills into multiple juristictions or if assistance was requested. So a chase starting in Oakland wouldn't automatically involve SF authorites unless it ends up in SF and back. Something that had actually happend in a real car chase earlier in the year (2020) although with more cities involved and SFPD dipping out once it crossed the Bay Bridge - twice. 5) It is possible to not gain a wanted level if a cop hits your car in the back or while stationary and if the player has not hit the gas or brake during the collision. They may still comment on it though.
the police in Watch_Dogs are really unique for this generation of consoles. they behave a lot more realistically than the police in GTA. my one question is why do the police Cavales and Tali(plural for Talos) have exclusive high-powered I6 packages?
It's a reference to the Ford Explorers and Taurus patrol cars the SFPD uses IRL. Most North American police cars have exclusive engine packages built straight from the manufacture itself. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't include some classic police cars in WD2 as I have seen the SFPD roll around in some very dated cars still in active duty (unless the occupants were larping as modern SFPD officers which would be illegal). Think early 90's Ford Mustangs, and Chevy Suburbans. Obviously not a common sight but interesting to see if one manages to drive by.

The police only react to you driving a police car that was previously occupied by another officer. If you drive a police car that was parked inside the police station parking lots, then the police will not react to it. (there is a non-hostile zone in the downtown police station, right next to the car depot,). it is also worth mentioning that the police cannot arrest members of the FBI faction.
Seen only once their K9 barking and jumping on enemy's car door. Very rare scene because criminals just drive out of the area after they're dealt with you or the cops.
aggro dogs will do it to you too or jump at the wall/item you climbed up to avoid them, sometimes they may also lose sight of you that way as i climbed a wall and the dog was jumping at it and i walked around and came back and the dog hadnt noticed me and was still jumping at the wall
WD2 has some of the best police AI outside of Mafia 2. i only wish police could tackle you like they do npcs when you run instead of going into kill mode. if only cops reacted to dead npcs this could be the best yet. hopefully Legion has worked on the police ai.
@@sodium7127 not really the story seems repetitive a lil bit they also removed a lot of fun stuff like phones and the ability to hide in cars and now there is no car on demand or 3D printing guns so to get lethal weapons you have to search for spies or cops which rarely spawns there is no ability to hack traffic lights or frame other pedestrian there is no witness system like the first 2 because they are albion drones everywhere i'am just waiting for the aiden pierce single played DLC included in the season pass
Interesting thing to note, Enforcers by the SFPD use the U100 and the AA12 like shotgun while the OPD ones only use the SG90 shotgun. Also the cop spawns are different between the cities. Foot cops mainly are a big difference between the two.
The most annoying thing about the police chase is that I always wonder why Dedsec doesn't steal SWAT enforcers' bulletproof uniforms first before doing any tasks! And I hate it so much that even if you get off the car and hide after the police lose sight, they will stop and search you right where you are. Cheating is also seen in Need for Speed games: when you drive at 250mph, the police can suddenly catch you at 300mph. Anyways, it's just a video game!
if dedsec were murdering swat and stealing their uniforms the fbi and dhs would probably start a manhunt the reason that doesn't happen with marcus is because canonically you only use the stun gun and lethal yo-yo
One i saw K-9 tried to enter in criminal's vehicle. It wasn't clear to me because vehicle was moving but the dog was stomping & barking on their right door.
Funny thing. In my gameplay one Umeni Zulu actually resisted arrest, killed one of the arresting cops and the second cop got her. It was surprising but it somehow happened.
Umeni Zulu security corps and I think they went bankrupt because of their failure to protect the Silicon Valley Titans I think in watch dogs legion Albion is their successor

I Love this in wd2. Played cyberpunk with its drones everywhere and Police start Shooting No Matter what i am doing . Played GTA with getting more and Mode Stars in Seconds and be chased with No Mercy. Returned to watchdogs 2 and i was surprised seeing that the Police ist quite realistic .i Tried to Steal a Car and Somebody was reporting that Crime. I went Off a Bit and Nobody was following me. The Police arrived at the place where the Crime was Reported. They Had No clue that i was the criminal and Just stood around and looked what Happend. I stayed behind , waiting. Suddendly a civilian start insulting the Police , a Woman , she got arrested and was brought to the Police Car .fascinating. later you can interfere and summon more Cops or Gang members , Watch Them Fight watch Other . Great . In GTA i Loved the ability to call 911 . Was nice too . Miss this. I Like in wd2 best that you can easily hide and that there are no drones . Npcs dont Always know where you are . This is great . Thats why wd1 and wd2 are more realistic than Legion. I hate that this left driving scenario in Legion and many Cars have No Driver , Kind of Automatic . Everywhere drones . Police is Not realistic too.
Imagine if they made a police mode where you could play as an actual officer of the law... and then be able to do certain tasks like patrolling around the gang neighbourhoods or taking part in car accidents... oh, and also, a backup feature!
I just wish this game had a better physics engine. Whenever NPCs interact and it becomes physical, you can see them shifting into a spot in order for the animation to play, no dynamic physics. Similarly, when cops chase an NPC, cops can't just jump and catch that person. The NPC always stops first, then the catching animation by the cop plays. I wish Ubisoft paid more attention to dynamic physics. Other than that, the world of WD2 is a masterclass for developers on how to create a living-breathing world.

For the appearance of the actual SWAT models in one side mission you have to SWAT a gamer and the SWAT units on scene are actually realistic looking but the models that you encounter in the game are rather not
There is rare cases where Unemi Corps faction based NPC's will resist an Arrest. This will only apply to the NPC that resisted it and the other Corps won't interact in that fight nether the Cops interact with the other Corps members. This can be triggered if a random NPC or gangmember nearby commits a crime, most likley shooting as the officers arrest the Unemi Corps member.
@@Thekillergreece also if you are seen carrying a concealable firearm such as a glock or uzi the police dont react but if you are carrying an assault rifle or any other larger firearm you will be arrested immediately. It's a nice realistic detail when you consider real gun laws in the United states.
@@jr5993 They will not react to small firearms because your character is "technically" conceals them from the police sight even though its obvious (likely developer oversight). However, if you run with the small firearm in hand, they will react. Nothing to do with gun laws. :P

Actually I have seen umeni and police fight each other but it only happened twice both happened at the new dawn temple idk maybe because of the gang I called which I think a cop hit a umeni in cross fire or vice versa and they shot eachother because of that
That will be a problem. WD1 is unoptimized and I keep lagging/stuttering at random times which makes recording difficult and annoying which is why I made only WD2. Sorry. :/
Some vehicle patrol officers (nearly 2) carry Goblins. They're usually spawns at 3 heat level. But if you're in building or unreachable area, game spawns foot cops and they're always armed with Goblins. Best example for this situation, getting wanted level at Alcatraz. Same thing happens on Umeni-Zulu officers. Vehicle officers always armed with shotgun and micro smgs, except elites and enforcers. But again, if you're in building or unreachable area they'll respond with Goblins.
Police system and interactions with AI are the best part of WD2. I love to create clashes between different gangs, police that can last almost endlessly. It makes world feel more alive and create illusion that it doesn't work only around player. It's a pity we won't see these systems developed further in WD. I think they should choose best parts of first two games and implement them into third one(maybe even both protagonists). But they decided to make WD Sims that looks and feels much worse that the first WD in some areas.
6:11 I feel like it’s actually the opposite, since when a gang member murders a cop the heat level goes up much faster then that of gangs, and if there is multiple gang members, there’ll be an indefinite amount of police officers arriving.
I honestly enjoyed WD1 more because of the darker atmosphere. And they removed some amazing mechanics from WD2. Like the thing where you can rescue people from the car.

Couple days ago when i was playing, the police officers, 2 of them where taking cover of a gang member that was takimg cover in the opposite side of the care, you already know how that finished, one of them threw a grande and the 3 of them died because of the car explosion

I loved WT2's NPC behavior and police are great in this game. I only wish they would pursuit NPCs like they do with the player. Unfortunately they only chase NPCs on foot, not by vehicles.
They do pursue NPCs by vehicles but in order for that to happen, the NPC has to be framed on foot before they get in a vehicle. However, they often pull over and give up.
When I got the game I developed the police arrest thing and whenever those cops die backup doesn’t come automatically I realised that my game wasn’t updated now since I did it had been hell for cops if there is too many cops and gang members car blow up everywhere and I die
How about a police behaviour analysis for true crime new york city those guys really came down hard on you 4 swat boys in one hummer armed with M16s and being able to fire from Windows unless you used debug mode where you could be invincible you were a dead man unfortunately swat teams only come after you on the PlayStation 2 versions of the game

@@ChrisSealy1997 I installed it for PC because my copy is for PS2 (which seems to be the best optimised). Well it's been a while, but initially it always were two blue police cars with cops with shotguns inside, not much later they had M16s and eventually a blue police car and white police SUV show up. The SUV had 4 guys inside with SWAT markings on their vests. Their spawning does seem to be broken though, a lot of times the police radio mentions them but nothing shows up.

@@ChrisSealy1997 Yeah, it's a great game, last time I played it was on PS2 emulator and you can really see it being an improvement over the PC version. And wow, you remember those! This is a small world! I haven't really been uploading anymore, it's been really busy lately and YT regulations have gotten a lot more strict throughout the years. Mafia II is great as well, I love that game. Which platform do you play on? I do still game quite a bit, I even uploaded a mod for this game on Nexus mods called Rebalanced Police Mod since I am a nitpicker when it comes to cops in videogames.
When it comes to NPC behavior, Watch Dogs 2 > GTA 5 any day. I'm so tired of the stupid "wanted stars" system you see in GTA, especially with it being labeled as this fantastic wanted system. It's not good, and it never was. Overall, Mafia 1 had a better police system than any of the GTA games ever did. It did that part of GTA better before GTA. WD2 is like a great middle ground. Cops feel smart, intelligent, sometimes a little over the top, but fitting the theme of the game. They actually arrest people, they investigate crime scenes. They actually act like cops! I've been playing it for so long now, and I never get tired of how the police works in WD2.
Even with their imperfections their AI is still better than in GTA 5. Even though it was released only 3 years after GTA 5 and this game isn't updated anymore and GTA 5 is getting constant updates.

Albion is more like the tyrannical sort of police so I wouldn't be suprised if it was shoot on sight.

Funny thing. In my gameplay one Umeni Zulu actually resisted arrest, killed one of the arresting cops and the second cop got her. It was surprising but it somehow happened.

you forgot one thing its when somewon is calling the police and you rip there phone and throwes it into the ground if the police sees that you get arrested.

I Love this in wd2. Played cyberpunk with its drones everywhere and Police start Shooting No Matter what i am doing . Played GTA with getting more and Mode Stars in Seconds and be chased with No Mercy.
Returned to watchdogs 2 and i was surprised seeing that the Police ist quite realistic .i Tried to Steal a Car and Somebody was reporting that Crime. I went Off a Bit and Nobody was following me. The Police arrived at the place where the Crime was Reported. They Had No clue that i was the criminal and Just stood around and looked what Happend. I stayed behind , waiting. Suddendly a civilian start insulting the Police , a Woman , she got arrested and was brought to the Police Car .fascinating. later you can interfere and summon more Cops or Gang members , Watch Them Fight watch Other . Great . In GTA i Loved the ability to call 911 . Was nice too . Miss this.
I Like in wd2 best that you can easily hide and that there are no drones . Npcs dont Always know where you are . This is great .
Thats why wd1 and wd2 are more realistic than Legion. I hate that this left driving scenario in Legion and many Cars have No Driver , Kind of Automatic . Everywhere drones . Police is Not realistic too.

Imagine if they made a police mode where you could play as an actual officer of the law... and then be able to do certain tasks like patrolling around the gang neighbourhoods or taking part in car accidents... oh, and also, a backup feature!

I just wish this game had a better physics engine. Whenever NPCs interact and it becomes physical, you can see them shifting into a spot in order for the animation to play, no dynamic physics.
Similarly, when cops chase an NPC, cops can't just jump and catch that person. The NPC always stops first, then the catching animation by the cop plays. I wish Ubisoft paid more attention to dynamic physics.
Other than that, the world of WD2 is a masterclass for developers on how to create a living-breathing world.

If they add more elements like gta and details and good story Ubisoft can make insane games.

There is rare cases where Unemi Corps faction based NPC's will resist an Arrest. This will only apply to the NPC that resisted it and the other Corps won't interact in that fight nether the Cops interact with the other Corps members. This can be triggered if a random NPC or gangmember nearby commits a crime, most likley shooting as the officers arrest the Unemi Corps member.

@@Thekillergreece also if you are seen carrying a concealable firearm such as a glock or uzi the police dont react but if you are carrying an assault rifle or any other larger firearm you will be arrested immediately. It's a nice realistic detail when you consider real gun laws in the United states.
@@jr5993 They will not react to small firearms because your character is "technically" conceals them from the police sight even though its obvious (likely developer oversight). However, if you run with the small firearm in hand, they will react. Nothing to do with gun laws. :P

Actually I have seen umeni and police fight each other but it only happened twice both happened at the new dawn temple idk maybe because of the gang I called which I think a cop hit a umeni in cross fire or vice versa and they shot eachother because of that

That will be a problem. WD1 is unoptimized and I keep lagging/stuttering at random times which makes recording difficult and annoying which is why I made only WD2. Sorry. :/
Some vehicle patrol officers (nearly 2) carry Goblins. They're usually spawns at 3 heat level. But if you're in building or unreachable area, game spawns foot cops and they're always armed with Goblins. Best example for this situation, getting wanted level at Alcatraz. Same thing happens on Umeni-Zulu officers. Vehicle officers always armed with shotgun and micro smgs, except elites and enforcers. But again, if you're in building or unreachable area they'll respond with Goblins.
Getting the gangs and cops to fight was fun but as you said they don't survive that long gotta have technique ig lol

Police system and interactions with AI are the best part of WD2. I love to create clashes between different gangs, police that can last almost endlessly. It makes world feel more alive and create illusion that it doesn't work only around player.
It's a pity we won't see these systems developed further in WD. I think they should choose best parts of first two games and implement them into third one(maybe even both protagonists). But they decided to make WD Sims that looks and feels much worse that the first WD in some areas.
It's so much fun causing wars between the police and gangs in this game, it's so realistic
6:11 I feel like it’s actually the opposite, since when a gang member murders a cop the heat level goes up much faster then that of gangs, and if there is multiple gang members, there’ll be an indefinite amount of police officers arriving.

I wanna ask two questions about the mechanics first of all why do regular police officers have grenades on them? And second of there Radio chatters are questionable too I noticed that they talk sometimes nonsense like they have visual contact on player but sometimes they say they lost eyes on suspect eventhough he is still in a active pursuit involved

What I don't in any video games like these if you get arrested it's not implicated in the game then you would ask yourself why I should waste 30 minutes for a chase eventhough you can let yourself getting arrested and continue where I stopped
In Watch Dogs 2 at 5 Boxes there are unlimited cars coming after you I had several incidents where over 12 police trucks came after me and it was too much for my pc it said bye have good day

What I also wanna add too is the possibility of the police to survive a shootout even a small one is I would say under 15% they get killed very quickly unlike the predecessor where two cops where able to take out a whole gang where are over 20 guys present plus with heavy weaponry

Couple days ago when i was playing, the police officers, 2 of them where taking cover of a gang member that was takimg cover in the opposite side of the care, you already know how that finished, one of them threw a grande and the 3 of them died because of the car explosion

Fun Fact: If you pay close attention to their details, You can see the officers have small body cams on their right shoulder.

I loved WT2's NPC behavior and police are great in this game. I only wish they would pursuit NPCs like they do with the player. Unfortunately they only chase NPCs on foot, not by vehicles.
They do pursue NPCs by vehicles but in order for that to happen, the NPC has to be framed on foot before they get in a vehicle. However, they often pull over and give up.
If the police witness a gang attack and the gang members get in the car and drive off they will chase them.
When I got the game I developed the police arrest thing and whenever those cops die backup doesn’t come automatically I realised that my game wasn’t updated now since I did it had been hell for cops if there is too many cops and gang members car blow up everywhere and I die
How about a police behaviour analysis for true crime new york city those guys really came down hard on you 4 swat boys in one hummer armed with M16s and being able to fire from Windows unless you used debug mode where you could be invincible you were a dead man unfortunately swat teams only come after you on the PlayStation 2 versions of the game
The spawning seems a lot more broken on PC, however I did get a SWAT team on me once though, once I killed quite a few cops.

@@ChrisSealy1997 I installed it for PC because my copy is for PS2 (which seems to be the best optimised). Well it's been a while, but initially it always were two blue police cars with cops with shotguns inside, not much later they had M16s and eventually a blue police car and white police SUV show up. The SUV had 4 guys inside with SWAT markings on their vests. Their spawning does seem to be broken though, a lot of times the police radio mentions them but nothing shows up.
@@Yorpie thats exactly what im talking about they dont show up on pc version the blue police cars with shotgun cops probably show up when the dispatch reports calling all units and reports you as armed and dangerous however that only happens on ps2 version i believe in my opinion true crime new york city is better than saints row 2 i remember watching your destroy all humans and saints row videos during the 2010 to 2012 days when youtube and all social media was for adults only and when games like mafia ll revived the 50s American culture
@@ChrisSealy1997 Yeah, it's a great game, last time I played it was on PS2 emulator and you can really see it being an improvement over the PC version.
And wow, you remember those! This is a small world! I haven't really been uploading anymore, it's been really busy lately and YT regulations have gotten a lot more strict throughout the years. Mafia II is great as well, I love that game.
Which platform do you play on? I do still game quite a bit, I even uploaded a mod for this game on Nexus mods called Rebalanced Police Mod since I am a nitpicker when it comes to cops in videogames.

When it comes to NPC behavior, Watch Dogs 2 > GTA 5 any day.
I'm so tired of the stupid "wanted stars" system you see in GTA, especially with it being labeled as this fantastic wanted system. It's not good, and it never was. Overall, Mafia 1 had a better police system than any of the GTA games ever did. It did that part of GTA better before GTA.
WD2 is like a great middle ground. Cops feel smart, intelligent, sometimes a little over the top, but fitting the theme of the game. They actually arrest people, they investigate crime scenes. They actually act like cops! I've been playing it for so long now, and I never get tired of how the police works in WD2.

Even with their imperfections their AI is still better than in GTA 5. Even though it was released only 3 years after GTA 5 and this game isn't updated anymore and GTA 5 is getting constant updates.
I liked to Help the Cops by disrupting the Gang Members Headsets so they couldn't shoot.
