There was a choice between beef and chicken, i opted for the beef and got fish.
RUSSIA 100
Yes yes I had the lasagna
In Soviet Russia, fish go "moo"
David Robinson beat me to it, and don’t call me Shirley
lol
Also had nice glass of kvass, or was that the de-icer?
I flew on that same exact plane. Twice! When we went to adopt our daughter from Izhevsk in 2009!!! Awesome video!!!!!
If you listen closely at takeoff, you can actually hear the engines go full slav power
Adam Alshalan lmao
The unssunnssunnsss of the hard bass (bahss as they say) is easy to spot.
Slav squat on landing
Izhevsk is far from being Siberia :)
Great video! Love to see several domestically produced planes still flying
Yes, and it was -15 celcius, which isn't even close to the cold temperatures of Siberia in the winter. Places really in Siberia, such as Oymyakon and Yakutsk, are around -40 at that time of year
Izhevsk is actually tropics comparing to Siberia.
omg!!! the strange looking sausage and pasta is a typical food of my childhood, especially in school, but it was actually tasty and not so sketchy looking like this, id love to fly this airline, takes me right back to ussr vibe
I remember taking it several times between HAV and SCU (or vice versa), when Cubana was still using them. While it was flying quite smoothly, I don't remember any tighter seat pitch ever. It was like squeezing 120 seats into a CR7. But for a short flight it wasn't that bad (as to the catering, Cubana was offering only a candy and a "refresco" - Fanta-like orange soda).
I really enjoyed this video. I'd love to fly on Yak too
I'd rather ride on an actual hairy live Yak! And not have to eat that 'sausage'
Another great report, Noel. You are setting the standard for your reports rare aircraft, rear airlines off the beaten path. So you didn't have a hat in Moscow. Did you go shopping in Izhevsk? We flew on a Tu-154 and a Tu-134 during out honeymoon in Russia in 1984. Wonky seats, inedible food, instant coffee. Absolute luxury! 😊 The night train sleeper from St Petersburg to Moscow was a ride everyone should experience once in their life. 🤢
Yet another exotic experience. Absolutely loved the views out the window, the sound, the unique experience in general!
Thank you 😊
I love the rounded windows too. Looks very posh.
@@noelphilipsI love the way you live your life! You seem fearless. Some people are afraid to fly and miss out and can't see the world like you and travel.
A regional jet with real character and that engine noise is just wonderful!! Great video as always Noel.
Thanks Mark!
Yes, I love the engine noise also.
What a lovely, quirky, elegant aircraft the yak-42 is. And those Lotarevs sound absolutely amazing. I'm really impressed. This really ahs to be THE best ever Yak-42 video on You Tube. Thank you for bringing the sounds and emotions to us!
Thanks for watching! It’s a fantastic aircraft!
I'm curious. Did you get to watch the entire flight on Patreon or inflight.tv? Or I should say both flights. I wish I could listen to them, but I can't afford it, and I don't know if Noel will be uploading any of those entire flights up here on YT. The quality is so much better though; I'm sure of that.
@@noelphilips
Welcome you again
To Russia
And see more small aircraft
Thank you for letting us see and hear the takeoff in its entirety! Brings back some nice memories of flying on Northwest's DC-9 and 727 in the 90's, I'd love to be able to ride either of those again. As for no hat? Dude, Russia makes some of the best hats, I'd love to have one if I was going to spend enough time somewhere that cold. And as for the food, I'm just thankful when they still serve food at all.
I want more Russian aircraft on your channel bro please.. especially old ones.
That sounds like a great way to kill off the channel tho
@@TransistorBased I think a video of a sketchy old plane is more entertaining than some lavish first class cubicle
@@ogalief Agreed, I don't really care too much about the super expensive 1st class, it's the economy and old planes that are my favourite
@@thetwitchfurry5548 agreed
Love the ice on the inside of the windows! What a great experience, awesome vid Noel :)
Great job, mate! Those are very well filmed memories from the unusual and quickly-becoming-rare airliner! Thanks for the upload! :)
14:21 Love the catchy music, what's it called? Love the video, thank you for sharing these experiences, keep it up!!
Thank you! Nice report :)
They give you mint for a reason. I am too young, have not experienced Soviet Union. But, from my parents say, they give you mint because eating/licking/sucking the mint help you to unblock your ears apparently.
Soviet airplanes were known for blocking ears heavily. It's just like with older Boeings.
Interesting!
From a simple google... Izhevsk is literally like a third of the way between Moscow and what most would call Siberia...
Nice video though - really like your style.
Well, Izhevsk is actually 4/5 of the way to the western border of Siberia - the Ural mountains.
Wow. What an amazing trip report. Really excellent! Well done!!!
Thanks Daniele!
I love your videos.. the magic is your true love for aviation and exotic planes. A true avgeek vlog. Looking forward to more videos
Thanks so much! Really appreciate your comment, means a lot and helps inspire me to do more! Thank you 😊
I've made that flight too! We were a film crew working in Izhevsk, the capitol of the Republic of Udmurtia, and the firearms capitol of eastern Europe. It was a surreal experience. Our minder for the shoot (no pun intended) was the grandson of Mikhail Kalashnikov.
Neil Harris why is it firearms capital?
@@s125ish Because the AK iz made there.
Engines sound Good
unlike others that sound like my riding mower.
Nice video 👍
They love the cold weather
If you had bumped into Mr Bald, you wouldn't be thinking about ways to spend the two hours.
Those Soviet Mosaics!
Looking at your smile as you looked out the window shows your love of flying. Maybe some day you will come back as a bird. Free to soar forever.
Fantastic video as always!
Really enjoyed this video. Thanks!
Love to see how aviation is happening also on places I usually don’t think about. Very interesting!!!
Great video mate! 😃👍
Well put together and informative.
Thanks
Thanks Brian!
Its always a pleasure when there's a new Inflight Video vlog, and this one was outstanding! I'm glad you got to fly on a YAK aircraft at last. The sausage on the first flight looked raw to me. Loved the Moscow airport hotel room.
Thank you! Yep it tasted gross! Thanks for watching :)
Great channel, love it with lots of info which is a must to know if you travel a lot, keep up the good work my friend
Thanks Carl! Appreciate it :)
What a view, what a sound..it must be amazing! Ilove these older planes, flying this in sim;-)
It’s a great experience!
Another excellent high quality production - well done !
Thanks John!
Built in 1995 at the Saratov aircraft factory. The first owner is China General Aviation. Landing distance of 1670 m - engines not equipped with reverse. Thanks for the video.
You want to see amazing ice sculptures. Come to Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota in the winter and check out the ice castles. They'll blow your mind.
8:38 Awesome sound!!!
Great video!👍
Hey Noel thanks for reminding me of my times in Russia in 2006-2008 flying on Yak's from Moscow to Saratov and staying in that hotel before getting a BA flight home. I should have asked for danger money!
An ice playground, that is amazing.
Fascinating from beginning to end, I want to go there!
Thanks dude - it’s an awesome experience :)
Well done Noel!!! Inspiring 🔥👍 PS. “Traditional cuisine” 🤣🤣 🍗
Thanks Cath :)
I flew on the Il-18 to Romania with Tarom in 1984 to Mamia.
I was amazed that such a thing could exist. Even in 1984. Talk about asking the rear gunner for the meal.
But today I would happily pay for such an opportunity today.
Spent the flight looking at the props hoping they still keep spinning and the flight deck was a visible through a curtain.
Love another go today.
I really enjoyed this video, thanks
Thanks Tony!
The town looks amazing
You found -15 as brutally cold, come to northern Canada, I have worked the oilfields in minus 60. When acclimatized, Trust me, that makes minus 15 is almost T-shirt weather. I wish temp would stay at about +5 degrees. Warm enough for everything from the beach to work.
Dude you gotta buy some proper winter clothes when you go to Russia in the winter! ;-) Thanks for the vid, loved it! And what a beautiful plane!
Haha yep I’ll remember next time :)
Thanks for sharing your flight. Watched a -42 land at Gothenburg once, probably the closest I’ll get to flying in one. Always liked Yak trijets 😊
03:04 same bright suitcase as me haha, first time I've seen someone else with it :D
Very Nice Video,
Also nice background music at end 👍
At first I was wondering why the retrowave music played on the background... but then I realized why when Noel said "back in time" about the cabin.
That rear door looks scary in the flight.
I remember flying Yak-42D in my childhood from LED to MMK and we boarded from the rear door. Quite unusual. But don't remember shutting down the 1st and the 3rd engines during the landing roll! :D
Great video, by the way, nice content, thanks!
Brilliant great video loved it
Nice tripreport!
The Yak-42 is a great Aircraft to be on. The sound too Amazing!
It’s a fantastic aircraft!
What a nice little plane!
Flew Yak 42 Sudan Airways, Khartoum to Kano in 1999. Up through the back stairs. Canvas 'camping' seats. Very bumpy noisy ride. Honestly didn't expect to get off in one piece so decided to sleep to avoid the nerves. Worked fine!
Good for very cold Snow and ice beautiful cool.
Very interesting video the interior of those yak 42 looked very 1970's still very interesting .
Yep like stepping back in time!
How magical
The sweet serenade of the engine on Yak 42
My daughter is amused at your Siberian adventures. My wife was stationed in Berlin as a cipher officer for some years and pre the Wall used to meet Russian officers for a chat and coffee. For these reasons she was fluent in Russian but when she met her chum in Siberia said chum had to translate as the locals spoke another language. The rest of us gave up anyway, so your problems were understood.
Nice!!!
That's the plane i used to fly in Cuba when i was a kid
Great material
I flew it from Nizhnekamsk to Simferopol last summer, I had the RA-42384
Nice! How was your flight?
I see you were lucky to fly on a rather warm day :)
I love so much your russian airlines movies bro 👍
Thank you :)
Brave man! :) great video
Haha thanks Tomasz :)
Amazing, looked freezing. I probably would have paid a bit extra to be in business but I have no idea how much extra it would have been and I guess we would have missed seeing the engines. Thanks so much for posting.
An outstanding video! Thanks a lot from Russia. I flow Yak40 several times, but never Yak42. Unfortunately not to many soviet-built planes are in service((( Sorry for the policeman near Domodedovo airport. They are fearing video cameras as always)) Best wishes from Vnukovo( 3rd Moscow airport))
Your background music 🎵 choice is excellent ❤️
I feel like I am in a Dolph Lundgren action movie....
How did i watch trip reports for a billion years without being aware of this channel? This ist top of the class, keep it up!
Thanks so much! Welcome on board :)
Very nice review of the airline and aircraft experience. Being from australia ill most likely never step on any sort of the type so i really appreciate these honest reviews :)
Thank you :) You still have your fair share of interesting flights there though :)
Great sound
How amazing on that take off you can see the curve of the earth.
Rosemary Bleackley that’s just the lens on the go pro 😂😂😂
Have to boast that I flew on a Yak 40 in Cuba 2001 (Santiago-Havana). Got on through the tail .Still remember that distinctive high pitched rythmically thrumming whine of the engines.
At least they gave you a meal.
Good grief, Mr Philips! The sausage you have to eat and the ice on the windows that you endure, just so that we don't have to! Thank you for your phenomenal travel videos and super commentary, happy new year 2020 to you and your family!
Haha thank you! Happy New Year!
Used to fly Athens to Mykonos on these in the early 70's with Olympic after the runway was extended. Prior to the YAK, the equipment was Skyvan and helicopter before that.
Love the subtle commentary - must use the same caterers as British Airways? Well done - for taking us places we'd not normally get too.
Should try and do a video on a Tu-154. I flew on Aeroflot Moscow to Kathmandu in 1993, it was a really great plane. Coming into the stop at Sharjah we did tight 360s at what looked like only 5,000ft or so (i can judge height well as a hang glider pilot). Never known that on any other commercial flight. From the tarmac as we exited the plane the size of that beast was so impressive. The anhedral also makes it look really novel.
Wow when that thing touched down and throttled bk it sounded like a harrier
Летал 1 раз этой авиакомпанией в прошлом году. Винтаж, ретро. Пора Ижавия переходить на самолеты поновее.
This is a great luck to experience flight on the Yak-42! Currently Izhavia has plans to upgrade aircraft park to planes with more fuel-efficient.
Fantastic!
Used to fly regularly on a Yak 40. There was a service that connected Abidjan-Ivory coast with Freetown in Sierra Leone with a stop over in Monrovia, Liberia. Plane no wsy as "luxury" as the one you flew. No chairs, but twin seats with double back rest. Plane was extremely slow.
The 40's had a straight wing and were slow but designed to land on anything except water.
If you want to fly on a Yak-40, the Vologda Aviation Enterprise flies them between Vologda and Moscow-Vnukovo, info as of July 2018.
Yak 42 was an advance jet with Turbofan at the end of 70s beginning 80s...his little brother Yak 40 has the same noise level in cabin during cruise speed that the A 321 ( 83,5 db).
oh yes mate, beuatiful plane. I flew on one of these over in Cuba with Cubana Aviacion (habana- canacun) The've retired the yak 42 since though.... Cool plane...
I flew with Aeroflot in 1990. The food was alright. The coffee was even better, but I never had collapsible seats.
very good video !!!
Thank you 😊
I love the too👍🛩 good video
You are awesome, Noel! Go on a trip to the north pole via ice breaker!
Glad you have visited my born city 😀
You're the best!
Another amazing vid! To be honest, I was surprised to hear how quiet it seemed. Wonder why that main boarding door is so small ?
You're a brave man 😬
A beautiful bird!
'As we touched down the engines shut down'. Correct, they don't have reverse thrust, spoilers and breaks are enough, so they were set to idle.
The best sound of russian tubofan is Solovievs D-30 on Tu-154M.... When Tu-154 was taking off it was a music symphony
Living the dream!
Absolutely!
Great voice over Noel.
Thank you :)
I was on Yak-42 a few times from Moscow to Saratov and back. In my opinion, it is by far the quietest Soviet airliner.
9:40 enjoying the flight,aren't we?
