I wonder if the Afghan interpreters were able to get out before the Taliban over ran the country...hope so. The one Afghani told the elders we, the coalition, wouldn't abandon them...sigh.
Its obvious Bagram was surrounded when we withdrew. And what a shame to leave the interpreters and Commandos with billions in equipment behind like we did. It was the mirror image of our withdrawl from Vietnam in 75 with the NVA surrounding Saigon.
As an American, my hat goes off and my heart goes out to every man and woman that fought in the seemingly endless war. Some giving the ultimate sacrifice. At this point in 2023, looking back I don't know what we were trying to accomplish there. I understand the war on terror and trying to get Bin Al Qaeda and Isis. But were we trying to Nation build, were we trying to install a democratic system that the Afghanistan people could run and administer in a non corrupt manner for the betterment of that country that has seen nothing but War for centuries. Or were we just after a foothold in the region, with oil and geopolitics and influence in our sights? Like I said, I don't know and I don't have any of the answers. When my country, America pulled out of the region I felt crushed. All that blood sweat tears and death for what? Just for the Taliban 2.0 to come back in and do what they've done for decades. There are no human rights in Afghanistan and the women and girls bear a particularly cruel brunt of that Stone Age religious philosophy. Arranged and forced marriages, child Brides are not the hallmark of a sophisticated society that is looking out for its own. Here in America, when I see a middle eastern man and his family out walking. I see the man wearing his expensive Nike running suit with his expensive sunglasses and his expensive watch while his wife, wearing a burka regardless of the temperature and her children walk 6 to 10 ft behind this man who is constantly on his cellphone laughing away. It turns my stomach to be honest. The hypocrisy is just too much. I've known many men and families from the Middle East and while they are generally nice people, to a man I disagree with their worldviews, religious views and politics. And that's my right as an American and I suppose it's their right as well but they have to earn it and they have to earn it legally. I don't know the answers or the solutions to bring the Middle East into the twentieth century let alone 2023. How can you trust a country that brutalizes its on people, denies education to the women and young girls who are seen as nothing but objects of pleasure and reproduction to the men over there and has a draconian system of justice? Just like many Christians and many other religions the men of the Middle East have corrupted the Quran to suit their own perverted style of justice and life over there. As an American, my hat goes off and my heart goes out to every man and woman that fought in the seemingly endless war.
Some giving the ultimate sacrifice. At this point in 2023, looking back I don't know what we were trying to accomplish there.
I understand the war on terror and trying to get Bin Al Qaeda and Isis. But were we trying to Nation build, were we trying to install a democratic system that the Afghanistan people could run and administer in a non corrupt manner for the betterment of that country that has seen nothing but War for centuries. Or were we just after a foothold in the region, with oil and geopolitics and influence in our sights? Like I said, I don't know and I don't have any of the answers.
When my country, America pulled out of the region I felt crushed.
All that blood sweat tears and death for what? Just for the Taliban 2.0 to come back in and do what they've done for decades.
There are no human rights in Afghanistan and the women and girls bear a particularly cruel brunt of that Stone Age religious philosophy.
Arranged and forced marriages, child Brides are not the hallmark of a sophisticated society that is looking out for its own.
Here in America, when I see a middle eastern man and his family out walking. I see the man wearing his expensive Nike running suit with his expensive sunglasses and his expensive watch while his wife, wearing a burka regardless of the temperature and her children walk 6 to 10 ft behind this man who is constantly on his cellphone laughing away.
It turns my stomach to be honest. The hypocrisy is just too much.
I've known many men and families from the Middle East and while they are generally nice people, to a man I disagree with their worldviews, religious views and politics.
And that's my right as an American and I suppose it's their right as well but they have to earn it and they have to earn it legally.
I don't know the answers or the solutions to bring the Middle East into the twentieth century let alone 2023.
How can you trust a country that brutalizes its on people, denies education to the women and young girls who are seen as nothing but objects of pleasure and reproduction to the men over there and has a draconian system of justice?
Just like many Christians and many other religions the men of the Middle East have corrupted the Quran to suit their own perverted style of justice and life over there.
Like I said I don't have the answers but when I hear the horrible news coming out of Afghanistan it makes me sick to my stomach and makes me feel like we have unfinished business to attend to there.
