  • Tod and Copper may have received minimal development in the first movie, but that is not the case here. Both characters are greatly crafted and conveyed, and in this video we will uncover exactly how this film manages to succeed at that!
The Fox and the Hound 2 is INCREDIBLY Cliché… (but still kind of good?):

This “sequel” was one of my favorites growing up. I found this video essay very interesting and intriguing!! I never looked that deep into it and it makes a lot of sense! Also, just saw recommendations for your other video essays.
PLEASE make more of these in the future! They’re awesome:) Maybe you could compare and contrast the other animal based Disney Direct to DVD sequels with their original movies! That would be cool. Anyways, Great job on the video!

Thank you so much for your support! I do plan on making more videos like these in the future. They take a while, but are ultimately really fun to create!

I agree copper's vengeance on tod was unjust but I heard the writers were planning on killing chief off which would have justified the Hunter and coppers desire to kill Todd but hunt him down over a broken leg made him look like a full-on villain maybe he figured that the accident happened and that chief who was like a father figure to him almost died because he didn't follow his hound instincts and let tod go by because of their past friendship.

Imo this was undoubtedly one of the worst sequels imo. I grew up watching the Fox and the Hound, and I didn’t have a lot of Disney movies either. I’m a little disappointed you didn’t mention how badly they watered down the more serious and realistic tone of the original movie, specifically with Widow Tweed, Amos and Chief. I do agree this time Copper did have more of a personality than simply being a puppy growing into his natural instincts of becoming a hunting dog. I’m sorry, but I can’t get over how stupid and annoying Amos and Chief were specifically. They’re both seasoned hunters that tried killing Todd as a kit (aka baby fox) several times whenever he was caught on their property. The sequel literally turned them into the stereotypical “old cranky neighbor next door” who just wants to be left alone, and is grumpy at EVERYTHING. Personally, I couldn’t stand Cash and Dixie as characters either, especially Dixie. I get the point on her character is she’s Cash’s sweetheart and gets jealous when she isn’t the center of attention anymore, but she literally tried to get Todd to be a terrible friend towards Copper. Justifying her advice by saying “Its show biz” I get this movie was supposed to be an attempt to show Todd and Copper’s happier days when they could still be kids and realize how much their friendship really means. But another thing I just can’t stop thinking about is if Copper left, Amos would’ve reported him missing anyway. I have a feeling Copper wouldn’t have gotten far before the manager of the dogs realized somehow he got a puppy by accident.

I'm sorry that you didn't quite like this movie. It's certainly not the greatest movie of all time, but I thought the characters of Todd, Copper, and Dixie were actually executed pretty okay.
I actually have A LOT more to say, but I might make a separate video revisiting these old opinions and trying to clarify or re-evaluate them.
      Thank you for the comment!

@@StickyBrickBuilderhey! If you want suggestions for another Disney sequel video, I’d recommend Pocahontas 2, both Little Mermaid sequels, and Lion King 2!

@@StickyBrickBuilderalso a note on your aggravation of Todd’s mood changing once he met Vixie. I think it was supposed to be similar to the ending of the Jungle Book: Shere Khan is no longer a threat to Mowgli’s life, the entire point of why Bagheera keeps trying to get him to understand why he can’t stay in the jungle anymore. Once Shere Khan is defeated, Mowgli is free to return to his wolf family or wherever he chooses to live, especially with Baloo growing a strong fatherly bond to Mowgli. However, they end up spotting the man village and Mowgli sees a beautiful girl. He instantly feels a mysterious connection to her, and despite Baloo’s pleading to come back, he chooses to give the man village a chance instead. It shows how Mowgli realizes the village isn’t as awful as he feared it would be, but ultimately a new chapter in his life has begun. Hence why Bagheera humors Baloo and sings Bare Necessities with him, showing he’s glad Mowgli is no longer in danger, considering he’s been his friend ever since he was a baby.
With Todd, yeah the mood has a whiplash effect when it came to the extremely sharp change in mood, but its to show how he can see something beautiful in the midst of the unknown. And technically Todd could’ve come back to Widow Tweed at the end of the movie, seeing Amos was tired of chasing him all over the forest and understood his present hunting dog would rather die than let him kill his friend. But Todd chose to stay with Vixie and begin a new life in the forest instead. Yes he was happy with Widow, but I think he got a bit lonely considering most of the farm animals didn’t particularly like him because he’s a fox. The forest is to show there’s a brand new world waiting for him, and that its time to move on in life
