There was also another time on MTV'S Total Request Live where Carson Daly had two teams (Backstreet Boys fans vs NSYNC fans) compete against each other. When the NSYNC team won, a girl from the Backstreet Boys team threatened Carson Daly AND the NSYNC team because she was upset her team had lost. These bands were HUGE and would close down literal streets due to the amount of fans showing up to support them (Just like MTV's Total Request Live had a special to promote Millennium and fans flooded the streets of New York). @@PrincessWhatsername no skips my ass, backstreet’s millennium album was just singles and filler and the bulk of the albums tracks couldn’t hold a candle compared to the singles
I love both NSYNC and Backstreet Boys (BSB). But I realize because BSB had more hit songs and albums. BSB is a bigger boy band. Plus, BSB are the biggest selling boy band of all time. Though they are tied with NSYNC with 8 Grammy nominations. By the way, seeing how BSB had a #1 album (2019 DNA album), 2 huge tours (Vegas Residency and their DNA World Tour) and a recent Grammy nomination in 2019...still proves how people love BSB till this day. But I do wish NSYNC would release one more album and do a tour.
Honestly if you paid attention, there’s not really much that bsb has accomplished that *NSYNC hasn’t, everything bsb is doing now both artistically and commercially is generally quite mediocre, if *NSYNC got back together now they would be 10 times as popular.

One blaring correction that I see is that New Kids on the Block was the prototype for Uber successful boy bands… in all reality, Boys II Men and New Edition was actually the prototype, but were not ready for that conversation
Yes for group dynamics new edition modelled later boybands like backstreet boys and *NSYNC, but new kids on the block were essentially a blue print for how to get their commercial success to another level.
I still have both these groups greatest hits cds and i will say even though some of the songs are dated they are still fun and amazing and that 2 me is whats most important

@@KathrynMosley close enough, my point is Kevin and Howie barely sang, bsb don’t get credit for them all singing, their first album is 90% AJ and Brian
@@eguyatt6813 I think if we’re going by first albums alone it’s actually pretty even on both ends of most to least leads sung. Brian and AJ, do have the most but Nick is actually only a few leads behind them while Joey and Chris sing even parts to Kevin and Howie. It’s the only album where that’s the case as then Nsync focus more on Justin and JC and poor Lance only gets to showcase his vocals twice and then never again on their follow up albums. For BSB it’s the opposite Kevin and Howie start to have more leads each album, especially their last 6 albums. Having JC and Justin sing 90% of their entire catalog kinda makes sense and sad for the other guys because they can sing quite well. I think having that extra lead vocalist in AJ, Brian and Nick definitely makes a difference and when Kevin and Howie do their parts, also they have so many songs where all five sing lead vocals. Nsync has I think two overall. They definitely didn’t showcase each individuals voice quite like Backstreet Boys do and have but both are great in their own ways.
Honestly growing up I just thought there were two different boy bands that people compared to each other I had no idea that the management or the creator of one band I secretly made another one this kind of sounds like a Disney Channel movie lmao and there’s nothing wrong with creating another boy band but at the end of the day it’s disloyal and also does genuine because we don’t really know what he was telling the Backstreet Boys.

Lol
He said new kids on the block set the stage for the 90s boy band But I really think that was new edition mainly because they were the ones new kids looked up to and I believed they were formed by the same manager and new kids was made as a “white new edition” because they would be able to sell better he should make a video on this it’ll be interesting to see
BSB FOR LIFE! I like bye bye but I honestly didn’t know nsync existed until I came to live in the states but BSB was huge where I’m from and I still know and love all their songs
*NSYNC really could’ve been bigger if they tried but they were so popular in America than they didn’t really need to be huge internationally, even though they did have modest success pretty much everywhere.
It would have been nice to acknowledge that New Kids on the Block themselves were created as a copy of and direct competition to New Edition and was created by the former manager, Maurice Starr, who they fired after receiving a paycheck of 0.67 cents to split between the 6 of them. Just a brief one sentence would have been nice just because New Kids on the Block wasn't just meant to be competition to New Edition but to ERASE them (cause their former manager had a vendeta) and he seems to be succedding. Everyone credits New Kids on Block for modern boybands when they weren't even the originals. I am not sure if I would say that the rivalry is what pushed into international stardom because both groups gaijed fame internationally without their rivalry BEFORE coming to the US. It was only in the US that the rivalry was beneficial.
Nsync was a boy band that was pin, against the Backstreet Boys on purpose. By the same person who created the first band, which it was the Backstreet Boys. Even though that both boy group were great band, Nsync were never going to beat or outlived the Backstreet Boys. Because they were never going to be bigger as them in the first place. People or fans never saw them as a freshly boy band, they always seeing them as the Backstreet Boys rival. Not to mention the person who created, both Backstreet Boys and Nsync. And other artists, he robs and stolen from them.
Lou as 6th member of each group he started but bsb and *nsync 2 different paths, one put money back because of him then they be free and other messy court battle for their name... both won at the end
@@eguyatt6813 Not really. BSB are the better singers and they have distint voices that complement each other. I don't like Justin's voice. He sound like a goat.
I love both Backstreet and Nsync they both had really great songs, but for me Backstreet because of the fact I heard them for the first back in 1997 Quit Playing Games with my heart love this group to this very day
It was the other way around. Spice Girls would never be associated with All Saints whereas the latter would be constantly compared with the quintet. Plus, although All Saints had the best selling single in the UK for many years and broke Spice Girls record once the Spice Girls had a way much bigger success internationally (hits and albums). All Saints were quite successful in the UK but not so much elsewhere. Backstreet Boys vs *NSYNC is a different subject, they came to a point in which they were head to head, even though BSB still remains overall the best selling boy group with the most global hits hence the most successful.
I loved all these groups and artists as a kid growing up in the 90s. Tbh I was only vaguely aware of the rivalry stuff and it didn't really ruin the scene for me.
It's really weird to think all the boy bands were owned by the same person, nobody really knew that at the time I think. In my city all the bars/clubs are owned by the same person as well, really gives illusion of choice :/.
I agree but at the same time, All Saints were like the complete opposite of The Spice Girls in terms of music and artistic image. While The Spice Girls were more colorful, joyful and fun with their fashion and music, the approach of All Saints was more dark, toned-down and serious. So in short, All Saints were like the Anti-Spice Girls, much like how Avril Lavigne was considered to be the Anti-Britney when she debuted in 2002 with her album Let Go. Also, All Saints was only successful in the UK whereas Spice Girls were HUGE both in the UK and US.
TEAM NSYNC FOR LIFE! But in all seriousness Lou Pearlman was responsible for the “feud.” He would make up stories saying that NSYNC was talking crap about BSB and visa versa. He was so gross! And I’m glad they’ve all realized this years ago and became friends. I wonder if Lou was friends with the original management of New Edition and TLC; they had all their money stolen too.
That one guy I think his last name was Wright was "friends" with Lou or at least cordial. Lou seemed like a narc parent using triangulation on his kids to pit them against each other and dividing them. Glad they found out the truth way before he died. Could you imagine all that mess coming out posthumously (for Lou)? Such gross behavior.

NSync sold very well of course but they never quite reached the same level as BSB--they definitely seemed more popular in the states though. BSB still tours as a group. I like both groups but BSB was first and had a much harder way to go legally they had to pay out a lot of money whereas NSync did not have to pay as much because their true success came after they left Lou! BSB had popularity overseas in Europe before they were known in the US also.
i would say that nsync was bigger in the us when bsb took their short hiatus, because bsb’s millennium tour broke records the year before so technically bsb was bigger in the us haha. i could be wrong but that’s what i know! and hell yeah both bands were talented as fuck.
Not the quiet shady competitiveness in these comments lmaooo
Backstreet boys is the biggest selling boy group for a reason. They were bigger than nsync

Same, I was still obsessed with BSB when everyone else my age loved N*sync. I consider Millennium to be among the best pop albums of all time, in terms of the music itself. One of those albums with no skips.

Just liked some somgs from both and couldn't care less about the bands themselves
Really, I’m my 4th and 5th grade class, it seemed like Backstreet Boys were more popular amongst most of my peers. (I’m also a Backstreet girl just like you). I’ve also heard few of my friends diss NSYNC a few times. (Which I never did as I liked their music too).

Why does this really remind me of the “war” between EXO and BTS that happened in the early-mid 2010s???

Chris had solos in I drive myself crazy, and it's one of their best songs in my opinion. He has a really high beautiful voice. With that voice, he should've had way more solos.
Chris and Joey sang more than Kevin and Howie
@@eguyatt6813 that’s definitely not true lol

My most memorable part of the feud that sticks out to me till this day is when a BSB fan girl threatened to kill an NSYNC fan live on TRL when she lost a competition between the 2 lol also when the NSYNC fangirls won a Winnebago on the price is right and followed the guys tour bus cross country! you are so correct
And even before New Edition there was the Jackson 5/Jacksons.
The Backstreet Boys are tame and stoic? Maybe Kevin… but tame and stoic to describe a group that has AJ McLean in it?
And Brian. Brian looks tame but he's the most hyper among the 5 members of Backstreet.
I agree. AJ is the epitome of being edgy. That's why he made BSB unique, sound and image wise.

*NSYNC really could’ve been bigger if they tried but they were so popular in America than they didn’t really need to be huge internationally, even though they did have modest success pretty much everywhere.
Love both groups. Iconic.
I see Backstreet Boys and I came 😊
I think Pearlman went on the run and was eventually spotted at a tropical bar somewhere by some tourists who knew he was on the wanted list.
My millenial ass never clicked so fast
Still pissed that Justin Timberlake basically ruined someone’s career and didn’t face any consequences…..
This time was very fun. I didn't see the point of the battle but I have always been NSYNC over BSB.

The Spice Girls was always put against a band called All Saints, it was very much SG vs AS at one stage in the UK
Very interesting! But I would like to know more about what the content of the rivalries was and how far fans bought into it.

I mean now that we are adults can we finally admit that JC was the talented one in that boy group?

I used to think they were the same group… LOL
The British All Saints band be considered a rival to the Spice Girls.
