It was in production for a long ass time and the day it dropped it sold some outlandish number of copies. That is something that I miss so much. The buildup of music to drop. And you would physically have to go to the mall or a record store and wait in line to get yours...and they would sell out sometimes. And then shit would get real. Good times.
And to think... These people made this masterpiece of American rock that will stand as a pillar of music for generations... None of the people involved in this song have ever claimed to be a victim.
I want to disagree with ur statement that Slash makes this band. I'm not sure if u understand the contributions from each member that created these epic songs. They are still valid to this day and their debut album came out 35 years ago. Axl and Dizzy wrote most of the music to these songs with Duff added bass and Steven Adler with the beat. Take away any member and they did, the sound changes. Glad you guys have reacted to some of their songs, please keep going. They are an Amazing band❤
Axl actually created all of the orchestral parts on a synthesizer in the studio & if you listen to the Sound City versions there is an acoustic version and also a piano only version, all of which show how it was before he added those parts.
Record producer: “Hey guys, we need to stretch this song out past 11 minutes to fill time on the album. Any idea how we can pull it off?” Slash: “I’ll just do an epic solo. Make it three solo’s” And everyone was happy.

Anyway, the story is, that Axl Rose's character had a fiancè, but he cheated on her and she ended up taking her own life with a gun. The entire wedding scene is him dreaming of himself and his then-alive fiancè actually getting married. But that wedding ceremony never actually took place. What actually took place at the church was her funeral rites. Also regarding the fiancè's casket, that mirror in there is next to her face since she took her own life. That practice (with the mirror in the casket) is an old Catholic custom, if I'm not mistaken. I'm Catholic, but I only vaguely recall that, so I'm not 100% certain. Also, hinted at in the music video is the fact that friends are there for you during the happy times, as symbolized by the packed wedding and wedding reception. But 'friends' are not there for you during the hard times, as symbolized by the sparsely-attended funeral service.
The practice with the mirror is due to the fact she shot herself so the mirror doesn't show the damage caused the face/skull from the bullet. You don't have an open casket showing a dead person with part of their face/skull missing.
One of my favorite solos. Not the biggest fan of Guns and Roses but This is up there with the seize the day solo Syn Gates plays. He's from A7x. My favorite guitarist.

Imo, I believe if GNR didn't break up & remained strong all the way, they would've been the biggest rock band ever. What the OG's accomplished to still have multiple songs in top 10 of top 100 rock songs on radio today is still mind blowing
