    Venlab has a Clamp Meter. I'm interested in what you think of it should you ever do a review on it.

    Hello Darren. Thank you very much for your honest feedback and quality review of this GVDA GD166b. Let the reviewers who strongly praise this new mediocre model of electric clamps. This is just a multimeter, the operation of the clamps is at a low level due to the automatic selection range of 60 - 600A. Therefore, even the Inrush mode does not work correctly, because the relay does not have time to switch. I will tell those who want to buy or bought these electric tongs. They have an engineering mode from the menu. It can be easily calibrated.
    You are really handsome ! ! !
    By the way, the 208D electric clamps, which I consider the best for my money, have a feature in measuring current strength. (As well as the younger version 206D) They need to measure the current, as close as possible to the place where they meet. This is a proven and proven fact. This, of course, is bad and should not be like that, but 'what is - that is' It is in that place that they have maximum accuracy (if you need to measure current leakage when we are talking about milliamps). If there is not enough money for Unit, then I can confidently advise you to buy 208D. I have heard that Unit can generally be configured so that their NCV sensor in the center of the room can show the direction of hidden electrical wiring. They have a very sensitive sensor, which is cool.
    Thanks a lot Darren. Go to the mail please))

    Seems too many smart meters let "smart" get in the way of "functional", and a rule of thumb for any instrument of accuracy is it should have good accuracy & functionality - theres no excuse for a test meter with this level of circuit board design to have a bog slow continuity range.

    • @KeepOnTesting
      @KeepOnTesting  Год назад +1

      Agreed..continuity is really slow. Painfully so...makes you wonder why you can't override to a manual mode 🤔

  • @pault6533
    @pault6533 Месяц назад

    I see they have a newer version GD168B with a symmetric jaw which doesn't have the funky protrusion to hold a test lead. I'm a bit disappointed you can't select manual mode !?!?! Really wish this meter had a higher score especially with the buzzer operation. I heard you're not feeling well right now💔, get better buddy!! 😥We want to see you again soon!

    Is the screen readable under broad daylight though?

      Yes, under daylight conditions the display is definitely readable. Slightly washed out but nothing critical.

    Yeah, looks like a hard pass. Seems like they put all the bells and whistles on it but forgot the most important thing and that is to be accurate. I'll never understand meters that fall into this range. They aren't really cheap-o at 40 bucks but for a little more they could have made something worthwhile. I have an excellent clamp meter from Uni-T that was only 15 dollars more and my Klein was a little more than that but functions in an industrial setting. GVDA is in no man's land. Fine tune it for 55 bucks and make a real competitor to good brands. Ordered that scope meter you showed that got 5/5. Just waiting on it from China now. Thanks for the review.

    what do you mean there is no manual mode? if you keep pressing the green func button. that should cycle through each of the functions from amp all the way to ncv.

    • @GnatGoSplat
      @GnatGoSplat 4 месяца назад

      I wondered the same thing. Other RUclipsr reviews show the functions can be selected manually. I don't think range can be selected manually though, or at least I haven't seen anyone demonstrate that.

    • @pault6533
      @pault6533 27 дней назад

      What you say is true, all modes can be selected manually using FUNC. Then if you hold the function button anywhere along the way, it will take you back to Auto. For each function, the select button is able to switch between AC and DC etc. Button meters are not as intuitive as range selector meters. It's easy to miss things or confuse long-press with short-press. This meter's ability to do hold, min, max, and relative through the functions is good.

      @@KeepOnTesting Yup, unless viewers take the time to go full screen, YT will always squish-in their ads on the right side and that, coupled with tabs, url bar (and bookmark bar, if used) leaves the content looking a bit like a long loaf of bread. What has always been impressive about your workflow is that you think creatively "outside of the box" and pushing the envelope shows somebody is really thinking behind the curtain, rather than drifting from video to video. 👍

    I appreciate your reviews on multimeters. I'm in the market for a new one since my 20+ yo Sears Craftsman with dual indicators (analog & digital) has started giving iffy results. I wouldn't mind spending in the $30 range for a good multimeter and wonder if you could recommend one (or point me to one of your videos that has a positive review)? I'm just a hobby tinkerer so I'm not looking for a top-of-the-line unit necessarily but would like to get the most for my money. Also, would you recommend a clamp style meter over a non-clamp? Meaning can I get more functionality our of a clamp style that wouldn't be possible otherwise? Thanks!

      Thanks for reaching out. Check out the Venlab VM-600A, ruclips.net/video/bpTUXM1v53I/видео.html
      It's alot of multimeter for not alot of money. Capable and well made. I don't see any advantages to buying a clamp unless you'll be testing AC lines continuously. The Venlab has alot of functionality!
