We are very aware of this distro here in Brasil. The developer has this parking camera system that is also very good (a friend of mine uses it at his company). You can read in his website that the distro is aimed to make it easier for small business to adopt Linux and save on costs of software and hardware, but the development stopped because we don't have a digital signature certificate (made by gov) that runs smoothly in GNU/Linux systems and it's a big wall to generate invoices and other State taxes... This is really interesting but what I would love to see someone try is have some way that they could use Lutris with proton and wine to automatically install windows executables because I found that doing so you can get a lot more programs to work on Linux like Fusion 360 that way it would be a lot more easier to try and convince people to switch to Linux or just have them use it rather then actual windows
I recommend Linux Mint Cinnamon or Manjaro Cinnamon. Cinnamon is better than Windows. Note that if you are a power user you need to learn the Linux File system as it is Unix based and has nothing in common with Dos/Windows. It took me about a month to learn in my spare time. If you are an average user, you'll probably just find Linux to be easier on day to day tasks. If you go the Manjaro route you'll also have access to the Arch User Repository. Mint on the other hand is based on Ubuntu. The Mint and Manjaro forums are also very helpful.
I checked this out a month (or so) ago. Great work on this project...but how do they avoid the lawyers? I mean...the icons, the wallpaper.....it's so good, it's copyright-infringement-worthy! LOL I will say this: it automatically found printer & scanner drivers to an older Epson printer with no problem, and printing/scanning works flawlessly over the wifi back the VM.

I'm not sure if I should think of this a very terrible or a good idea for newcomers to Linux. It's like installing that failing interior from your old car into a brand new private jet XD
I don't think that imitating the old setup to make it look more familiar is a good idea for newcomers. They should be exposed to the differences to learn new things. When I first installed Linux, I had no idea what it is and how it works. When I found out about things such as "everything is a file", the file system hierarchy and the naming scheme for partitions, it actually made more sense to me than Windows' drives. People will get used to it. You know, Apple is a trendsetter and everyone with some moolah buys their products despite of never using it before and they get accustomed to it pretty quickly. And Linux is not rocket science. It's just something new. Treating something that works differently the same way you treated the old one can only bring trouble.

This is just a distro designed for transferring users who are used to the good and bad of windows, from everything you do on windows into a distro. And if you look at it like that it's a pretty decent distro for that exact purpose.
So here's the big question: As of today, which distro would you consider the most well rounded for the average non-power user? Anyone have a recommendation?
We used to love Mint at the Agency, but we've using Linux FX v10.2 for a while now, and we really recommend it, it's very fast and stable, very easy transition for our team mates coming from Windows (specially for non-developers), +90% of people won't never realize it's actually Linux (that's the best part, pretty much zero learning curve), and it even comes with the Office Suite, Chrome, Snap Store, Wine and Steam preinstalled, so we think every computer manufacturer in the world should preinstall this Distro!!!... (Microsoft should support this and the Snap Store to keep building the next big Windows Version instead of censoring it, pretty much like Android used the kernel to develope an amazing mobile OS) *NOTE: I've tried the v10.6 but it's not as stable as the 10.2, it had some bugs and compatiility issues, specially installing some tools required for professional software development and computer assisted drawing, so sadly we must kept the dual boot :/ the voice assistant is way better tho cuz the older robot voice sucks, but other than that, if you don't use the assistant that much and you use the terminal a lot, then you should stay with the v10.2... Anyway you should give it a try, you probably won't regret! ^_^
One thing i missed when transitioning from windows 10 is start menu. I run kde so i easily found widgets that mimics this menu. Now i either use fullscreen dashobard or run programs fromterminal, but when it comes to menu, windows 10 is superior.
Without the windows 10 stuff on top it could be like a business version of mint 20. I think it is kinda neat in away. Running 10.7 but I had to change the desktop picture to Tux look in the window!!!
Per one of your earlier recommendations, I moved my people to Linux Mint and everyone finds it easier to use than Windows 10 ever was. I don't want them to think they are in Windows because the minute they put a Windows App on and Wine craps out (as it sometimes does), you have a problem ever making them happy again. I get them to find a real Linux App to use if at all possible. And the Windows-7 Image backup is only on the Control Panel - it is not on the new menus at all.
I have played a very samll amount with this distro... I was actually quite impressed. the fact that it has Wine in the intall is pretty great. It could be very helpfull to help folks transition. I would like to try to get a copt of MS Paint to run in wine for a friend who needs it where I have set her up with peppermint already but the one program she needs and can't really learn to use an alternative. It's not a bad distro overall but I'll stick to Peppermint or Ubuntu Studio
Good point: not all Microsoft design decisions are good. In fact there are are so many annoying things and problems that made me move away after being a Windows user for 20 years. I started from zero and learned to develop software for macOS, Linux and BSD. There are more productive systems out there.
Chris, I think you should look at it as a proof of concept showing that Windows could be or have linux as foundation with the Windows interface that many use. Or as a proof that Microsft could only dev the interface and offer the Windows interface desktop to linux users, just like KDE, Cinnamon descktop or Mate, etc Now imagine any Linux distro could run this version of the windows desktop and also have some of the best software suites compiled to work on that desktop and keep the windows feeling. That would be the best way to finally end the life of the buggy Windows kernel that still have bugs from the W95 era. I say KOODO to them to create a linux version that offers a better windows interface. That makes me wonder, Microsoft do offer WSL and they are involved with the Linux foundation. Could it be possible they are behind this version of WindowsFX ? That could be a way to tell us, that Microsoft is about to ditch the Windows Kernel to have it replaced by the Linux Kernel. Well only the future will tell us.
That is the Live USB... nothing has been installed at that point. With any Linux install you make the installation media, then boot to that media (CDROM or USB) then install it on the hard drive.
this idea have been around since i can remember... back in the day there was a w98 and WinXP, when WinXP got the axe by Microsoft there was a resurgence of the WinXP theming, etc... i never liked it and always thought it was bad form, but hey! whatever you want it's fine!
There's the 100%free Macrohard Windux 7 that looks exactly like the good old Windows 7 but is based on Linux Mint, it also comes with Microsoft Office 2007 with an enhanced version of Wine that supports more libraries and a better UI.
"The more complex a Windows program is, the least likely it is to work" Well, except for most games since WINE/Proton explicitly try to support them. Also, many older versions of the Adobe applications work fine, except for some resource intensive effects in Photoshop for example.
Do you think that copying the icons makes it easier for a newb to get around vs something like Linux Mint? I think the problem with these sorts of distros is that people expect it to work exactly the same way as Windows. and when it doesn't, it looks bad. Whereas with something like Linux Mint, they don't have that expectation, they probably can do the easy stuff just as easily, and it is all-round a more polished experience. Regarding Wine, is there anything that runs well on it where there isn't a better native alternative, apart from possibly some games?
For easy to use linux i would rather recommend linux mint (many things are kinda similar to windows but they dont do stupid thing that just make it harder to use like windows 10) but that running windows programs directly like that sounds like pretty nice idea.
Did not plainly state what you installed? Did you do this install on an existing Windows computer? How do you start from an existing Windows 10 computer if you did not want to be switched to Windows 11.
Its about the familiarity and muscle memory needed to run windows machines.i went from apple junk to windows at work, what a nightmare being proficient.
What about the SAPI 5 voices? I use Windows 7 and haven't downgraded to Windows 10 because I use something like 25 different computer voices for animation creations
I downloaded this when it came out and installed it on a test laptop. I will say it is very impressive and a lot of work went into it! Like you said there is still some language issues and I also have notices that some of the theming is still off in some areas and needs some attention... I have tried 10 windows programs and only 2 would not crash... Some would not even start while other did not install right... :-( So like you said for a new user to Linux for a bit it would be ok... Now only if the Wine Part would work better! I don't use Wine at all so there might be some setting somewhere that might help, don't know! But all in all, I have had a good experience with it. I have 2 webcams on repeater cables so I can see the dogs outside and it has been doing well for that... Lol It is kinda creepy in a way... Lol If Windows really worked as good folks night not live windows. The sad thing it " Does Not Tick Off the Box's " for what some folks think they Half To Have in order to leave Windows... :-( Thanks for the video! LLAP

Winamp works perfectly fine on Arch for me. However, you need to use version 5.666 from 2013. Unfortunately, I haven't found any replacement for it on Linux that would be the same.
Is it possible to "extract" parts of such a custom theme and integrate it into a regular desktop theme? So like for example the file explorer, but not the other parts?

would be nice if they made some kind of diagnostics tool to listen in on what the windows program is trying to do. if we had something like that then windowsfx/linuxfx would be an excellent testing ground for wine i can't see normal windows users , using the diagnostics tools. but a past tense windows power user like myself would find the tools very useful.

this idea have been around since i can remember... back in the day there was a w98 and WinXP, when WinXP got the axe by Microsoft there was a resurgence of the WinXP theming, etc... i never liked it and always thought it was bad form, but hey! whatever you want it's fine!
i remember doing basic on a timex sinclair then was in love with dos when it came out bought a tandy 1000ex
Thanks for your review of this distro.
why google assistant logo in wondoz?

There's the 100%free Macrohard Windux 7 that looks exactly like the good old Windows 7 but is based on Linux Mint, it also comes with Microsoft Office 2007 with an enhanced version of Wine that supports more libraries and a better UI.
Interesting to see what MS does about it, they pitched a fit about Lindows cos it was too similar
The 'dots' thing is google assistant lol, probably the most famous assistant.

"The more complex a Windows program is, the least likely it is to work"
Well, except for most games since WINE/Proton explicitly try to support them.
Linux Mint, just Change the Wallpaper, icons and Window and voi lá,we have a Nice OS.
For easy to use linux i would rather recommend linux mint (many things are kinda similar to windows but they dont do stupid thing that just make it harder to use like windows 10) but that running windows programs directly like that sounds like pretty nice idea.
With snapd and Wine included by default, you could run it just like Windows and most people would never notice the difference
Font is a dead giveaway. I still love this.
Did not plainly state what you installed? Did you do this install on an existing Windows computer? How do you start from an existing Windows 10 computer if you did not want to be switched to Windows 11.
Hi Chris. Where can one buy the T-shirt that you are wearing in this video?
can you make a video on BSD
Its about the familiarity and muscle memory needed to run windows machines.i went from apple junk to windows at work, what a nightmare being proficient.
Does it come with Windows main feature incorporated? The blue screen of death?
What about the SAPI 5 voices? I use Windows 7 and haven't downgraded to Windows 10 because I use something like 25 different computer voices for animation creations
I downloaded this when it came out and installed it on a test laptop. I will say it is very impressive and a lot of work went into it!
Like you said there is still some language issues and I also have notices that some of the theming is still off in some areas and needs some attention... I have tried 10 windows programs and only 2 would not crash... Some would not even start while other did not install right... :-(
So like you said for a new user to Linux for a bit it would be ok... Now only if the Wine Part would work better!
I don't use Wine at all so there might be some setting somewhere that might help, don't know!
But all in all, I have had a good experience with it. I have 2 webcams on repeater cables so I can see the dogs outside and it has been doing well for that... Lol
It is kinda creepy in a way... Lol If Windows really worked as good folks night not live windows. The sad thing it " Does Not Tick Off the Box's " for what some folks think they Half To Have in order to leave Windows... :-(
Thanks for the video!

Winamp works perfectly fine on Arch for me. However, you need to use version 5.666 from 2013. Unfortunately, I haven't found any replacement for it on Linux that would be the same.
Everything is incredibly identical to windows except for the start menu, which is just Cinnamon's default. I don't get it
Can you make a review to pearOS Cupertino? Or Catalina(comes tomorrow)
I do love the fullscreen Start Menu in Windows 10.
Is it possible to "extract" parts of such a custom theme and integrate it into a regular desktop theme? So like for example the file explorer, but not the other parts?
Yep!
But you have to have an experience of Desktop Environment modding.
Not "applying a mod" but "creating a mod".
This is the best windows I have ever seen before! 😂😂😂

So how would this work on say a surface Pro 5 I migrated off windows because the graphics drivers are S*#& and can't do anything 3D. Iv tried the gamepack Ubuntu distro but the dpi scaling is horrible on steam text is tiny. I'll give this a shot see if it suffers same thing

There is an ssd called t7 which doesn't work with linux. Will it work with this??
This just shows how great Linux is as far as customization
OnlyOffice really lacks features though. LibreOffice is very powerful for text editing etc so it lacks it quite a lot
Just checked OnlyOffice if it is comparable to LIbreOffice. And definitely LibreOffice just stands out in term of all features it comes with. Probably I'm biased, but being a heavy user of LibreOffice for me it is just a tool to go.
please please tell how did you add google assistant pls tell
As an aside, does anybody know if ONLYOFFICE comes with MS Core Fonts? If not, can they be added like with Libre Office?
would be nice if they made some kind of diagnostics tool to listen in on what the windows program is trying to do.
if we had something like that then windowsfx/linuxfx would be an excellent testing ground for wine
i can't see normal windows users , using the diagnostics tools.
but a past tense windows power user like myself would find the tools very useful.
Do environment variable commands work e.g. start
un\system control?
Nope, everything is Linux with a pretty windows skin.
What about older editions of office or photoshop?
