I installed this optic on a crossman 760 air rifle.I have now shot the riffle around 500 times during target/plinking practice, and the ruclips.net/user/postUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope has done well. With this optic, I have neutralized around 30 pigeons that were invading one of my buildings. For my short range air rifle, I will continue to use this scope, but will be upgrading to a more powerful scope, when I buy a more powerful air rifle, in order to shoot at longer distance. For the money I have spent, this scope has truly been a great buy.
Great information. I am currently using the Vortex Crossfire 2-7x32 Scout on my Scout Sqaud. While the fixed power optics are solid and reliable, the benefits of a variable with this setup is outstanding.
Did you mount your optic on the included picatinny rail? If so, how’s the eye relief? Or, did you mount a scope mount to the rear of the rifle above the action? Thanks for your time
@@johnnavy2879 I used a "long or extended eye relief" optic. Specifically I use the Vortex Scout 2x7 optic. These are designed to mount forward on the rifle to allow fast target acquisition as well as keeping both eyes open and focused downrange. It is a learning curve if you're accustomed to traditional optic setups but with a little practice it becomes very natural. It has become my preferred setup for hunting eastern whitetail and hogs.
This is the first time I have seen your channel. Subscribed. Very informative video. I'd be interested in getting your opinion on something. For at least a decade I have felt that a rifle with an 18 inch barrel is the sweet spot for the basic 148gr. 7.62x51mm NATO FMJ round. It provides the performance of a 22 or 24 inch barrel out to 800 metres. I'm not talking about being an 800m tack driver. I mean effective as in your shot(s) will be in there. If that makes sense. In my opinion 800m is really the effective range of the 7.62. Yes it works out further but at a diminished effectiveness. I think a step up in caliber is a better option once you're getting to 900 -1000m or longer. As handy as a 16 inch barrel but reduces the flash signature and blast. A bit less weight compared to longer barrels with the increase in handiness of a short barrel. You are right about magnification at longer range everyday shots. In my opinion this rifle is a better choice in the classic Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle role then a bolt gun.
I just bought a Burris 2-7 handgun sight because it came in silver to match my Mini-14. It works perfectly. They make a non-handgun scout version that seems identical in black, or if you need more magnification, they also make a 3-12x handgun scope. Might pick that up for a future build
I took off that forward rail and tossed it. Slapped on a solid handguard from Fulton Armory. Issues with the forward rail had to do with heat transfer: 1.) Attached right to the barrel and got burning hot. Ow. 2.) Burns on all optics that have been attached to it: Optics burn out when they get placed on a stove. 3.) Screwed on an over the chamber rail and scope. Re-directs gases and casings away from my face, and optics don't burn out.
If your plan is to run a true LER Scout scope I suggest that you replace the factory scout mount and hand guard with a light weigh, cool running scout hand guard (SHG) from M14 dot Ca ... the SHG allows you to mount your choice of optics as low as possible.
Hawk has a 2 to 7 thats built to withstand springer and ram rod air rifles. You may think it's a joke but the way those air rifles recoil back and forth will destroy your 300$ scopes. Before anyone pokes fun, do a little research. Hawk scopes are, or were around $100 before Brandon.
In the video, you briefly touched on cheek weld/eye relief when using an LPVO on the Springfield, M1A Scout Squad. 308 rifle. You didn't seem to have a problem raising your head to look through the scope(s). Earlier this year, I purchased this rifle, and recently, I've been trying to mount an LPVO scope to it. Unfortunately, even after trying multiple scope/ring combinations, I find that my cheek weld is too low to properly see through the scope. Do you have any suggestions for cheek risers on the Springfield M1A Scout Squad? Thanks.
Yes! The whole time I am wondering what the eye relief is...I thought about a vortex but it only has about 4in. From what I have read with the m1a scout and mini 14 etc you need something with a min of 6in but 8in is what will work for sure.
I love the Burris scopes. Especially for their quick release. What's your recommendation for shooting at 100 yards? I'll be getting my socom 16 here soon. Mine is really only going to be for range days shooting at now more than 100 yards. And maybe during my shooting on the move tactical training days.
I am waiting my scout squad. I will use an Elcan Specter. Just can't decide 1-4x or 1.5 to 6x. I am leaned to the 1-4x. What you ended up choosing for your Socom?
@LugerBrasil Good evening. I went with a Sig Sauer buckmaster 4×16×44 scope. With the M1A GEN 3 over the receiver scope mount. Shooting great. That scope mount maybe 300$. But it's. 💪 SUPER STRONG 💪. I do plan on getting another rifle for even longer distance. Shooting. I will be removing the scope setup on it and going with a scout scope for it. I'm looking at the leupold or burris scout scope for it
Great video....I have this rifle and the Burris 2-7 count scope. Only I'm having issues getting it zero'd in at 100 yards. Even with the lowest rings I can find I cannot get the scops settings to go low enough to be dead center. Can you tell me what rings you're using?
I have the scout 18" with synthetic stock. I placed a vortex crossfire II and warne Maxima steel ring 1". I kept shooting high off paper. I change my scopes elevation at as low as it can go I was still getting head area shots while aiming at the stomach area. I called Springfield and they told me the front rails are meant for red dots not a scope. 🤷🏼♂️ I'm lost here.
I have a Vortex Crossfire 2-7 x28 my Mossberg MVP 308 Scout ... Accurate little set up. It came with the rifle. I think it's like $150 separate. Worked well in low light in Deer Woods of NE GA. Only took it out 2x though!
Before you knock all non magnified optics try an eotech you can range with the 65 moa ring and it’s a holographic sight so you can see through the image and stay target focused to there also submersible and work with night vision none of these do
Does anyone now make a scout scope that is like a 1x6 and have a red dot at the cross hairs that you can turn on or off? Could be the best of both worlds.
I put a Burris Scout Scope on my M1A Scout but it would never sight in. Contacted Burris customer service and they never got back to me. So to say the least I will never buy another Burris product.
I am having the same problem, with this setup. Is it that the cross hairs will not go low enough? That's my problem, almost as if I can't get low enough rings to bring cross hairs down to where it's firing.
@@schwinnracingthe ring height doesn’t have anything to do with sighting in the scope. The crosshairs are adjusted vertically by the turret on top of the scope.
Bonjour mais aussi on peut monter un red Dot en 45 degré. Seulement tilter la carabine de côté comme font les Français sur leurs 308 semi auto. FN SCAR.
You look a little old to be worried about getting back in the bush and looking for human sized targets, especially at ranges over 100 yards. I know I am.
Now that's a real scout rifle video, thank you Sir!

I just put one of these on my M1A scout. I like it, but the only mount I had around really is too tall, I need to find a shorter mount

Primary Arms lpvo or prism optics 3X or 5X all day. Maybe with a magnifier if possible and or needed.
