It be great to see what work goes into fixing and maintenance on your guys equipment. Even if you have a second channel just for that that be great. awesome job guys.
Yes to this series and yes to redoing the Bobcat. 😊 I know nothing about any of this, but I always learn something watching your videos. Thank you so much and have a wonderful and blessed weekend. 🙂🙏
Stan is so good! Building for Minnesota freeze thaw cycles you basically build for anywhere in the US. This is so helpful and I'm not a contractor but when you get BS from a contractor these videos are so helpful to justify doing a good job or go home.
I get the whole pins in the block concept but in hallow wall block with the “lip” gravity (weight of block on top of another) and friction is what truly creates the structural integrity of the wall. Not actual connection points of each block. More importantly is building a wall correctly which is what you show every time. Keep up the good work. Love you videos.
Every wall system has its strengths and weaknesses, if you are backfilling with crushed clear stone in theory water shouldn’t be filling up those pockets and freezing. Unless Stan is digging 4 to 5 feet down to get below frost line then his whole theory “doesn’t hold water” pun intended because the whole wall is moving in the thaw cycle... concrete psi would be a red flag on a cheaper wall block in my opinion
Great vid DM. I first started watching you a couple years ago on one of your "this wall failed, here is why it failed, here's us rebuilding it RIGHT!" vids. Great vid.
I love watching your videos. Ive built mine based on your videos. Difference is, i am on crap Texas Dirt so i compacted and compacted and compacted my ditch then compacted 8 inches of drainage rock.
Love the content Stan! I’ve got a brand new guy working for me doing a reconstruction of a versa lol wall. Completely wrong on the initial build, but I’ve had him watching your wall videos, and thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Man, you’ve helped me catch him up on years of experience in a matter of two weeks! Love what you do man, thank you for the content
I missed these types of videos where you step in every now and again and explain with the objects them selves, i like this cause I tend to be a visual learner. love the vids keep it up
Looking good so far can’t wait to see the next one and I think the idea that Sam had it would be cool to see the bobcat have a fresh coat of paint and fixed up. Excellent work and thanks for sharing this with us take care
Nice to see videos like this . Better than a lot of bs on RUclips. Even if you already know how to do it it’s good to watch someone else you might learn a helpful tip to make the job easier or better. Good job boys
Great ‘Bush fix’ on the mini Sam. Would love to see ye guys strip it down, and restore it to its original glory. Would be an excellent video series, especially given how good ye guys are at explaining stuff in lay man’s terms.
My eyes still itch from watching Sam blow off the excavator! Interesting info. Using the better blocks might mean they are heavier to move and more expense o the customer part but that translates into a more solid, better built wall in the long run. Looking forward to the next part! I love how all your videos are not only entertaining but educational as well. Keep up the great work!
I really enjoy watching what goes into building a solid well built retaining wall. I cant hardly wait to see the next videos in the series. Great video.
Well if i were living on a slope like that, i'd be a little paranoid about what's going on over on my next-door neighbor's property slope too! It might just come back to bite me later on. But looking at that slope & situation, it's clear the homeowner never should've tried this on his own. It's good he realized that in time. I'm actually doing my own little retaining wall on the slope behind my house, but my situation is a lot easier. But still it's a lot of work! I started out (of course!) by grabbing a pick & shovel, and doing a little digging, with the thought that i'd just get some concrete blocks and a few bags of gravel at HomeDepot. No problem. Then i decided to do some googling/youtubing and found out it's a lot more complicated than i thought! That's what led me to your channel, btw. And next thing i knew, it'd escalated to a dumptruck dumping several yards of 3/4 clear gravel on my driveway!
Stan, my wife and I are huge fans of your videos! When we see retaining walls now we give them a visual and give a rating. It is either a Dirt Monkey wall or a piece of you know what wall.
Excellent video Stan! So informative! It is obvious that you have great passion for building walls. PIP was cool with action one screen and you sharing knowledge on the other. See you Monday...
Always amazes me how this is done with no concrete, here in the uk all footings will have 500mm minimum of concrete and walling built on concrete block with sand & cement. Great job👊👍
@@Dirtmonkey it would be a good one alright plus no stress for you both I love watching y'all just do projects that are also layed back and shoot the breeze so to speak. The restoration would fit the picture
First off I want to say love your videos. Extremely informative and really like the way that crew of yours works. I live in Prescott Arizona and i am planning on building a retaining wall. Very helpful videos. One request, have Sam not move his camera so much, really gets us car sick lol. Nothing but for ya'll.
Another great and helpful video! I am currently building a large wall on my property (40ft long by 8ft high) using versa-lok standard (based on your recommendation). The blocks have been amazing to work with as I’m 4 courses high at this point. The part that is giving me the most problems is the 90 degree inside corners. I followed the diagrams from the “corners and curves” pdf on their website. Had it all lined up right on the first two courses, but do to the 3/4” step back on the third course it gave me a 3/4” gap before the corner. Do I need to cut small pieces to fit in there? I don’t think it right... I probably did something wrong. But on their .pdf they do say the bond will move due to the 3/4” setback. Could you go over how you make your inside 90 corners? Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
what kind of license do I need as a lawn and landscaper is it home improvement I really need help with this stuff I want everything to be legit and have no idea
Ah would love to see Sam refurbish Bob! That would be awesome. Watching him strip it down, sand blast it, redo all the wiring, fix all the hoses and give it a good clean before a fresh coat of paint, hell yes! You should contact Doosan and get some new decals for it and get the correct color code for the paint to match everything. But hey, why don't you guys ever use a rotortilt on your mini ex? They're made specifically for landscaping jobs etc. Always a pleasure to watch you guys build a retaining wall tho, you make it look so easy!
Would love to see a restore video also you have disclosed why you like them blocks in other videos at least one for sure i specifically remeber you getting into the pros and cons of the different blocks
Speaking of masks, I designed and 3d printed my own that fits actual respirator filters, just gotta add the valves, rubber seal and straps. Works great.
That bobcat mini has served you well. I just always find it funny that you are always "trying out" new skid steers why not try and get a manufacturer or 2 to do the same with the mini ex's? Just a thought. I really like watching Blaine n Sam build walls too. So detail oriented, they are like the "finish carpenters" of the retaining wall world...
Stan I'd love to see you guys review the Kubota SCL1000. I'm just a lowly homeowner but watch all your videos and I'm thinking of buying this machine. We don't see much in the way of tracked standon's on your channel.
Hollow core is fine as long as the core goes all the way through. For example, Diamond blocks which are also made by Belgard are hollow core. However you need to fill them with clear 3/4" stone which allows the water expand and contract in the hollow core and move between layers. Blocks where the core isn't all the way through are bad because like you said water can get trapped.
Hey Stan, just bought a house and need to widen my driveway by about 12'. Was going to just use gravel for the time being and compact it down nice. I would dig out the yard a bit, build a mini wall, and have a varying depth of 6"-12", what type of gravel or stone do I need?? Any comment at all would be appreciated, Thanks!!
Crazy neighbors make you appreciate the good ones!! Great vid. Thank you!!
You got that right!
Sam is my favorite character on “As the Dirt Monkey Turns”.......Sam doing a refurb would be awesome.
I think that would be plenty cool.
Yes strip it down, make it Pretty.
Thanks for all you guys do.
Thanks for being apart of our community👊
Why I love this channel. 100% because you explain why something is better instead of just showing what you do. Thank you!
I try to do both so you guys can actually understand 👍
It be great to see what work goes into fixing and maintenance on your guys equipment. Even if you have a second channel just for that that be great. awesome job guys.
Man- that sounds like a good topic to do.
Let's give this another shot.... Hope you can see this. Keep up the great work! Have a great weekend! Love the recent tutorial videos!
I see ya brother! Glad your liking the recent tuturial. More to come.

That would be cool!
Nice to see Blaine is back!
Its so good to have him back.
You should ask that lady for the footage so you can use it in your videos
She makes life interesting all through this project
That is such bad manners to point your cameras right at your neighbors. lol
Karens all over the place

Strip it and fix it!
Thanks for these videos. Very helpful, you guys basically do it all!
16:00 Thanks for the tip. I wear one all day at work, so comfort matters. I'll check that out.
It's nice seeing guys that know how to use both sides of a rake. 8^)
Thats why they make them like that
Cool to see Blaine, hadn't seen him in a while. I really enjoy how exact he is.
I wanna see the mini get a full renovation. That would be a great video in regards to maintenance.
Sounds good!
Great video. I really learn something when you build these retaining walls. I need one built in my back yard just getting too old to build it myself.
Thanks for doing this!! About to build my own wall, thankfully only 30’ long and 4’ high. Appreciate you guys.
This series will definitely help me out. I am getting ready to do a 150’ long by 5’ heigh. I will have a curve so I hope you cover that.
I will see if we can get some coverage of that in there.

Yep- hollow all the way through is ok-as long as they are properly core filled. A lot times this step is missed.
