Soon or later I am next in line to move to DR, 2022 I spent 40 days in an airbn in punta cana, my first time in DR 🇩🇴,since then I fall in love with this country where I find happiness, peace of mind, hope, joy and stress free life, I am tired of my 25 years living on expensive long island new -york where even if you make $5000-$10,000 a month you still feel broke and living paycheck to paycheck, house mortgage $3000 to $6000 monthly, 1bedroom apartment $1900 a month,3bedrooms apartment $3,600 a month, long island new york is killing us, moving to DR soon or later is a life savers ❤🇩🇴
Word, New York living expenses is a b#*ch. I got fam in Queens. And even here in Atlanta prices are getting out of control. And Biden and his administration is making things 10000 times worse. All of us who can afford to are getting the hell out of America. At least until things get better.💯💪🏾🤎☮️✌🏽😎 #Trump2024 #BidenisObama2.0 #morewars #moresuffering
And these illegals in New York think that they are going to live there. They won't make nowhere near 100k a yr and that's Struggling in New York.
Wow, those are some real numbers😲. Sounds like it is time to move.
@@NorberisR yeap, that’s what I am working on
Ustedes viven en la capital?
I am moving to Santiago de los Caballeros as a retired american in 3 years on a 3,000 USD budget. But, I have already purchased an apartment and own a car in DR. With that kind of budget I will live in DR as if I was living in the US on a 15,000 USD budget. From DR my wife and I will travel to Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Mexico.
With that income, you will be just fine.
You'll be OK. All you need to do is enjoy your time.
You will be living as a king
Big cities will always be more expensive.
The problem with big cities like Santo Domingo and others with huge traffic jams daily is if one has a medical emergency because ambulances cannot pass through. Santiago is not as crowded and has great medical institutions.@@alfonsotarazona2320
Omg I am a Dominican living in the US since I was 16 years old old and this video just shows me I can really go back to my country to retire, thanks I will keep following you
You're welcome🤗🇩🇴
i was thinking the same thing 😂
1,400 dollars is equivalent to 100,000 pesos over there. If you have your own place and have a vehicle to move around over there, you live comfortably in the DR.
You can live comfortable renting and not having a car on $1400
@@NorberisR I wouldn't recommend nobody to go DR without having a vehicle.
@@abelpolanco9921 I'm sure you have your reasons as to why you don't recommend it as others have their reasons as to why they don't want to own a car here. Both are valid it's just ones preference.
@@NorberisR los atracos Norberis.
it is about 82K and you can modestly live with that amount here
Punta Cana is a different world,no traffic, no noise, no pollution
Crazy high prices and no culture
The only 2 problems with Santo Domingo is traffic and the trash. I think you can get a bigger bang for your buck in Santiago. I like that you bring your husband into videos. I love his perspective on things.
Yes Santiago is much cheaper. Glad you enjoy him on the show.
@@NorberisR He gives a great touch to the show.
Yo, that is true. That mainly occurs in the less privileged areas due to poor behavior from those residence. Nonetheless, the current government want to ihat improve on that as many americans having considering DR as a retirement and living destination.
I agree with your husband I don’t want to go there and feel like I am in the ghetto, if that is the case I would stay in the USA. I appreciate this video. You guys always have so much class
Thank you. We appreciate that.
You guys are really touching my heart with this video, you are showing people that you care about their well being
Finally, Cliff you understand😅
@@NorberisR 🤯🤯😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣😅
Wow. I kind of feel good where I am. I only pay no more than $800 a month. That is for everything for the three of us, including my daughter's school and her piano classes. But we don't pay rent. My wife had her own home when we met. So that's why it's $800 a month. SPM is a much smaller city then Santo Domingo but I'm still on the coast as well. I love your channel. Y'all are definitely helping people. That's why I continue watching you guys. Keep up the good work.
Do you like the SPM area?
Nice Couple❤...If you live way out in "Campo"..it's much cheaper raising chicken and planting yucca..and enjoy the beautiful hummingbirds and fresh air..
3 times cheaper
You're right.
If you go to Santo Domingo oeste, it's way more cheaper. I pay 600 dollars for a duplex , 3 parking spaces in a residential community. Everything near me. But I get it, you folks are showing only the center of the city. Love you guys stay safe!
Yes, thanks for sharing that information.
Im dominican living in nyc and I aprove this video. Great info, and good chemistry. Very sincere approach from both. Blessings.
Awesome! Thank you!
I love the fact that you are giving preparation to people
Great video content NoberisR James. This is one for the archives. You took a kitchen table topic and gave it real time data match to location. Great Job. You guys put a lot of work into your videos and it shows. James made the point that you made need to spend more to have a safer stay. Great job guys.Much respect🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿.
Our pleasure! We appreciate this feedback.
This is good! As I listen to you guys as you end regarding spending it made me think of my experience when I first arrived. As a fellow American, there was an adjustment period for me. It took me a while to realize that coming from a USD economy to a PESO was major!! I found myself spending on things as I would in the US because that’s the economy I was accustomed to. Let me be clear, I wasn’t spending money on clubs and partying! But on everyday things! I was told countless times by locals that I paid too much for things!! However, after about 2 years, I adjusted to this economy!!! You are spot on, the quality of living is much better here if one uses a little wisdom! I finally, settled on Bella Vista and love the area because everything that I needed was in walking distance or a short UBER ride. Although my Spanish isn’t fluent, I have no issues communicating. Oh yeah, most people from the stores and shops to the malls, know that I’m the American guy!! And I must say that I’ve not had one issue here nor was there a time I didn’t feel safe! You guys keep the info flowing even for those of us expats who live here. For those who are thinking about moving abroad, I would encourage you to research the economy first.
This is great input, thanks for sharing.
Salute to you two and the information you both spill.
Thank you.
Hey , as always , well done video , great information. I enjoy the DR , warm friendly people. I will be there for Easter, 2 weeks , can’t wait. Keep the great videos coming.
Thank you. Enjoy your time here🤗
One of the most informative videos you've done. Excellent job!
Glad you think so!
Thank you guys. Great content!
Thanks for the great video! My wife Yngris is from Santiago. I lived there for two years back in 89 and 90. We own an apartment there and the Lord willing we will retire there sometime in the future. after having done my own research your prices are, very close to what I calculated for cost-of-living expenses thanks for the great content. God bless! 😎🙏🌴☀️🏖️
Thanks so much for the rental price update for 2024! On my way back to Santo Domingo at the end of this month. I came for the first time last year stayed for four months. Fell in love with the place. Back in Colombia now but I think I will be settling in DR at some point in 2024.
You're welcome 😊.
Very good info. My daughter has that in mind for a while
Great topic ❤
Depends on what a person values and how they budget the finances. I know in Colombia where my in=laws are in a decent middle class neighborhood a $1000 a month can get you alot where you feel comfortable and have all the conveniences you're used to. Over $1000 you're just adding more luxuries to be honest. Comes down to your lifestyle. If you budget terribly in your own country its not going to change when you move outside of the country.
Bravo! Thanks for sharing this highly informative enlightening content! ASE!
My pleasure!
You guys provided really informative information. Options that you guys provided are excellent. I liked your video, thank you!

Sounds good. Just gotta find a place bachata isn’t blasting at 1:30am during the week.
That's very easy to find.
@dukeBX you may not even hear bachata at all in any of those places they are mentioning. All those are very good residential places.

Hi, I am from the Dominican Republic you could live with 1500 hundred as long you do not GO UPTOWN if you go to the suburbs 100 percent may agree with everything said here great video, for foreign workers this is paradise I recommend to come here asap Kijiji
Great video ❤
Glad you liked it!!
Good breakdown info 👌
Next video you should included in an entertainment expenses to the budget 🤷🏽♂️
There is no point in doing that. These are mainly fixed cost. They gives you ballpark figure. Entertainment depends on the individual and can vary tremendously. The least one can do is know their own entertainment budget and add it to the number in the video. Sorry, adding an entertainment budget has no value in these types of videos.
I love you guys. Planning a move to DR in a few years so this is great info. I hope you guys can do a video on where to get furnishings. I hear DR is pretty expensive
Thank you. Great suggestion!
Bring your own if you can. I am specially talking about electronics. They are mostly refurbished in DR and there is no warranty. So bring your own, test before you pack.
@@rosemaryvpwhere are you shopping talking about most are refurbished?
I love your videos .
Thank you.
I live 8 out of 12 months In La Romana about an 8 minute walk to the beach my overhead is about $600 I don't use a house phone or cable I have my cell and a smart tv I don't really watch much, and my rent is $350 for a 2 bed 1 1/2 bath 24 hours security, own my car but only use it when I leave the town.
If you live anywhere you need to live like the locals if you're in DR and live like a tourist it will never work. 👍💪
God bless y’all 🙏🏽
Thank you🤗
Great video…the best I have seen on living expenses in SDQ. Really liked how you showed different areas, furnished and unfurnished, different # of bedrooms and bathroom combinations 🫡
Glad it was helpful!
I'd look for a Gym, and eating out once in a while.. and transportation is needed as well.. gasoline is expensive in The DR. But there are less expensive rentals on good areas too around $700 too which balances out
Thanks for the great information. I need to move to the DR
You should of it's the place you want to be.
I have a friend who had a nice 1 bedroom in Puerto plata. I love when you do videos like this. I will have a $2000 dollar budget when I move to the dominican republic
Glad you enjoy them☺️
Vivo en RD, i like this content to practice english and is interesting to hear your point of view of our reality.
Thank you🤗 🇩🇴
Great info we moved to terrenas ❤
Great! That's a nice town.
My uncle has a place in Santo Domingo and has been living over there for quite a few years.
Nice video. Real Estate in D.R. - I'm thinking about it!
You should!
If you want to leave close to the beach and you're on a budget you can always look outside of Punta Cana. People sleeping on beach towns like Miche, Nagua. People are friendly and rent is cheaper.
This is true. Both are nice 0laces.
The politicians in NYC are making sure everybody new small apartment pay a minimum of $3k per month
Wow😲
Ill take the 3 bedroom.. I pay $1600 for just a 1 bedroom here in New Jersey.. That's just rent.. I need to move!!!
Great information.
You can be living here with that rent budget all in.
Thank my bro..living in new york..37 years and i love my DR...im front santiago is nice but true.. city is santo domingo a lot place to visit.....you are family now
Thank you🤎
Can you guys do a video on rural living and owning a plot of land and building your own house and farming and living off the land? La vida de un campo o talves un pueblo. Living in a small town or the country side is even more relaxing!! I visit my in laws who live in Janico a small town outside of Santiago and I love it. My dad lives near Moca and I like it out there as well.
Thanks for the recommendation.
I live in nyc and when I when to visit dr last month I want to move . I really want to move to dr. Ny is a country wit alot of taxes and depresión. And the debt is crazy . With a a good business u be living good in dr . People live happy.
Hi beautiful couple,
This my first time watching one your of video. Love the content of it. Already send it to my significant other, that is a Dominican York, and needs to know more about his country 😂. We already talking and planning for retirement. I am Cuban but my beautiful island isn’t an option for political reasons. He likes Fort Laurderdale, me not so much. But I think I will be happy in DR, I have only been there on resort vacations never locally. But that is plan for this year god willing. I still have a couple of year to decide but definitely I don’t want to stay in NYC, to expensive, to crowded and now dangerous.
I will wait for the next two video. Very interesting, already subscribed to you channel with notifications activated so I don’t miss then. Thanks you guys for taking the time to make this type of content for your audience.
You're welcome🙏🏾. Glad it was helpful. Fort Lauderdale is nice but it's expensive also. Maybe when you're here next time you get opportunity to explore outside the resorts.
Originally, the term 'high-roller' referred to someone who could/would bet a large amount of money on a ROLL of the dice in a dice game... the term expanded to me in any form of gambling and then any form of spending on the high end, BUT BUT BUT...for a DEFINITIVE definition of a 'High-Roller', I suggest you listen to the song 'High-Roller' by Ice-T. ~ Peace and thanks for the info.
Great job guys!
This is greatly appreciated. It would be nice to compare cost of living to other areas, perhaps closed to beach, or in other cities such as Bani, San Pedro de Macorís or even puerto plata. There’s a spectrum! 😂
I am very grateful because as I consider retirement, battling the cold winters, my 401 is not chunky enough, but man I’m tired of NY’s taxes and need to start planning! Florida is just the same, but without state tax, and it has other barriers that I don’t want to live with either…. Shmm it’s rough.
Thank you again, for giving me another perspective. I appreciate you.
You're welcome 😊
I would love a video on a living budget for the beach :). Great job on the video. Great content!
And these prices are for the capital…it is even cheaper in the smaller cities.
Yes, this videonis specifically for Santo Domingo more specifically Distrito Nacional.
@@NorberisR …..thanks for the video.
Her English is getting really good!!! Excellent!
Thank you! 🤗. This made me smile 😃
I used to live in Piantini. Absolutely loved it in DR. I used to pay $900 for a furnished apartment (4 years ago). I'd also like to point out the areas you showed in your video are extremely nice areas, comparable/or better than lots of places in the USA. Most Dominicans would feel the areas you picked are upperclass neighborhoods. Also, these are city prices. Santo Domingo is the size of Miami. So $1,500 for the necessities in a big city in a nice area is an incredible deal!
It is definitely upper class yes
You're are exactly right not many understand that. Thanks for sharing this.
I would love to hear your take on medical insurance and access to medicine in DR? I found it to be far more convenient than the USA. Same day appointments, same day bloodwork results - easy access to specialists. I work in the medical business and I found it way better in DR.@@NorberisR
I think that depending on your daily expenses weekly, biweekly, monthly.
My Wife and I were in Puerto Plata last week at the beach. We were on a cruise 🚢

Generally Speaking, As It Pertains To The Popular Cities, Is Having A Vehicle Necessary? If Not, What's The Best Method For Transportation, e.g. Uber, Taxis, Bus, etc, And Are They Expensive? THANK YOU!
Having vehicle here isn't necessary because it's enough public transportation. Users are not expensive.
Great information, very helpful... Which health insurance do you use and what is the monthly cost? Thanks
Nice clip! They just showed you guys very very nice urban areas locations in the Capitol to live… I’ve always enjoyed Naco; however I’m not sure why you leave North America and go into the thick of the city, but ok… prices drop outside of those locations( consider Santiago) …
Now, if you are truly interested in moving think HARD about living ( no go for me) full time in the DR… keep traveling , learn the language and cultures…
Maybe because we want to, probably the same reason you choose to go where ever you go, is because you want to. I think that's the simple answer.
In NYC im paying $1500 just for a small one-bed room apt
Hola Norberis...thank you for all your very informative videos. Which website would you recommend to research apartments available?
Corotos.com.do or encuentra24.com
Looking for alternatives to Santo Domingo, my girl lives there, and after about 5 visits, I've already decided the city is not for me with the traffic and noise but the country definitely is. Making 6 figs+ in the U.S and its still a struggle. Will be making the move in a few years and cant wait!
What area does your girlfriend live in in Santo Domingo.
Gazcue and zona universitaria are nice Quiet area too close to malecon area...and prices not as expensive....
If your dominican decent its easier done, 1st stay far away from tourist places like districto nacional, sosua cabarete and so on. Tourists and youtubers have exploded the price Dominicans charge. There are Dominican towns where everyone is friends and you can maybe pay $250 a month (buying your own house is better) shop at local stores called colmados also use public transportation and you can give away food and money with $1400 a month. My dad had a small pension and did just that. BUT if you need to buy expensive drinks and partying you need way more than 1400
Is better to buy your own place. Go punta cana or la romana ❤
Explore more.. dr is beautiful country and you can get places less than that with security ❤ and close to the beach 🏝️ good video ❤ thank u
I’m glad I found this channel, I just married a Dominican woman and she wants me to move there, I lived in Fort Lauderdale and I was paying for &1900/month for a 1 bedroom. I want to know about the healthcare
I've done a video on Healthcare just do a search on my page and it should come up. But as I stated in this video we are a family of 3 and we pay $181 per month. I'll try to make another video soon.
I mean this respectfully, please try to avoid saying “you know”. I have to catch myself too lol😂
24:50
Great video though. Thanks to you both.
I almost started an unofficial “you know” count 😂
Great video. Please try to show next, what you can get for under $500 US dollars. Many believe you can get a beachfront villa for under $500. I think you can find something nice in a regular neighborhood but it may be difficult.
You won't find a beach front villa for $500 or nowhere near that.
@@NorberisR what would i get it for?
