As a v70R owner, those are really fun... while they work... awd is notorious to break (mine did at the end of winter) and every electronic module are special coded to the car, so it is extremely hard to replace them without going to the dealer ($$$$$$$$). ex.: in to year: BCM = 1500 CAD$ + 200 CAD$ prog. - AWD_control = 1500 CAD$ + prog +++ - 1 HID Ballast = 400$ (This one was not coded ...
Strut price = you are wright!
As you said, they are not hard to work, but their is always something to make you cry a little.

Absolutely LOVE my s60r!!! If you want power, shim your block, or just swap a 2.3. Really stable at speed, & handles “like” a bmw with some poly bushings & other suspension goodies. 3” catless turboback sounds like a viper/turbo lambo. Great car, & very affordable **if you do all the maintenance yourself**

Throw on some race spec sways from the v70R, and go Poly bushings all around. Youll get a whole new level of suspension performance. With the 4c suspensions and the DTSC module adjusting the torque to each wheel, there is no longer such a thing of having to slow down for a turn. Love my R, and I wouldnt trade it for anything.
Before I put my 3' exhaust I cut a hole in the stock exhaust before the muffler to give it a 'fake' straightpipe. It sounded amazing.

As a former V70R (the station wagon variant of the S60R) here are a few things to consider when purchasing. The radio is known to catch frequencies from more modern newer vehicles causing the vehicle to randomly change to the station of the vehicle next to you on its own. The struts cost about $500 a corner to replace yourself, the front upper and lower balljoints go bad in about 30,000 miles. The stock catalytic converter goes out around 90-100k miles and oem replacement is $2100 whereas an aftermarket exhaust will run you about $1200-$1500. If you're lookin at an automatic be EXTREMELY WARY of the 5 speed variants as they habe serious shift slip issues, sometimes changing the trans fluid will solve it for a while but it will come back. The manual and 6 speed auto seem to have no issues. And finally the Haldex differntial needs the gear oil changed every 50,000 miles, it's not in the service manual but it has to be changed or you will lose AWD. P.S. if you are thinking of buying one of these cars you have to make sure there's a dealer near you with a master technician who knows how to work on these cars or you will regret ever buying one. Oh yeah and don't smash the headlight's into anything, they're $1700 a piece to replace.

I've had a V70 R 6 speed wagon that I ordered new in 2004 for almost 17 years now. It's my favorite road trip car, with it's selectable suspension settings, plenty of power for mountain passes, incredible comfort and insane top end. Plus, it's a wagon - it hauls a lot of bags. My main complaint is the notorious angle gear problem. My R is totally stock, except for the resonator delete and hoop of death removed. I don't beat it. My first angle gear problem came at just under 60K miles. Had it repaired (incorrectly), which along with a couple of other minor 60K mile checks came to 3500 bucks. Angle gear is starting to fail again at 71,000 miles, so I ordered a hardened spline sleeve. It will be another $3000 to have it installed, if I can find someone to do the work properly. Hopefully that will take care of it for another 60,000 miles. I do worry about other big problems - suspension, cylinders failing...but I just love this car, will probably just keep throwing money at it forever.

I have a 2005 S60 R and I have never loved a car so much! I have it to stage 0 with all new front and rear suspension. Only mod I would consider is the IPD oval tube exhaust kit for better exhaust notes. I found from original owner that took great care of it but with 142000 miles it was bound to need updates. Paid $7500 but put another $7500 into suspension, brakes, PCV (super important fix), coils, plugs and tires.
But you can not buy a better car new or used for $15000 period.

S80/S60 I/V70n/XC70/XC90, the P2 platform replaced the P80 platform, and was the lats none Ford platform if you don’t count the new SPA and CMA platforms. The mk2 V70 got the name V70n.

    The P2 R engine code is B5254T4
B = bensin (Swedish word for petrol) (D for Diesels).
5 = the amount of cylinders.
2 = liters of cylindrical displacement.
5 = Deci Liters of cylinder displacement on top of the liters.
4 = number of valves per cylinder.
T = Turbo (the T is replced with an S when it comes to N/A car as the Swedish word for N/A engine is “Sugmotor”) ( bi-fuel car will have the letter “G” added to the S or T, G stands for “Gas” and not the liquid type). (Flex fuel car probably have an F added to the S or T).

The P2 S60/V70n face lifts explained
    2001 - 2003 “face 1”
Black-ish Grey head light surrounds with the US spec receiving orange side markers, that look awful compared with the SewDM ones (in my where Swedish, Volvo purist opinion), the face 1 cars all have plastic trim on the front bumper, rear bumper and on the sides, bigger rounder mirrors, flat end needles in the gauge cluster, head light wipers and a trim pice that goes from the a pillar to the back of roof that doesn’t age well.
The R got its completely own front end, own head lights (basically the xenon variant of the face 1 headlights with a white-ish silver headlight surround), own gauge cluster blue back, “for see” active and adaptive suspension, blue coil pack cover, slimmer mirrors and Haldex AWD system that first became available on none R Volvo around 2003. Also you could get the V70 R with out “rails” which apart from 2003 you couldn’t with none R.
Early 2004, new “silver” interior trim, none R models got the slimmer sportier mirrors, new gage clusters.
2004 somewhere around 2004/2005 the HU-603 and HU-803 where faced out and replaced with the HU-650 and HU-850. (Head units). And the intelligent Marreli throttle bodys where replaced with dumb ECM controlled once on ever variant expect the Bi-fuel which got an updated Marreli throttle to match the new higher speed network in the cars.
Late 2004, New head lights (for none R cars) that for the first time where the same on the SweDM cars as the US spec ones, painted trim around the car, new front bumpers (for the none R cars), new slightly clearer tail lights and a new rear bumper.
2005, Bye bye headlight wipers hello “high pressure headlight washers”
2007, Last year of the V70n (and classic badged the last V70ns were), the side indicators movved from the fenders to the new slightly bigger mirrors.
2008, the S60 got new hidden pop up headlight.....washers and new badges in the back to match the disaster that was the new mk3 V70 and new mk2 S80.

You probably can’t tell but I happen to be completely obsessed with the Volvo P2 platform.
I have grown up along side a M56 P26E B5244S2 (a 2001 manual V70n 2.4), my parents bought it in the summer of 2003 about 17 years later they still have it, i Love that thing.
My parents where very happy with it too, so happy in-fact, they bought a second one (a 2006 manual Bi-Fuel) around 2007, which they also still have.
Volvo is sort of in my blood as i have had multiple relatives who have work at Volvo Torslanda R&D and one of them still works there, the first Volvo in my family belonged to my mother granddad who had a PV4 at one point, my closest relatives has mostly had Volvos, Volkswagens and SAABs.
I have worked as an apprentice at an Volvo and Renault authorized dealer, I worked manly on newer Volvo and unfortunately didn’t get to work much on these beautiful P2 cars, the last true Volvos.

I'm probably picking up a metallic red 2019 S60 T6 R-Design with Polestar and about 7,000 miles on it. $31,000 for 300+ hp. Definitely a bit of a hidden gem with a luxurious interior. Volvo is really not messing around with their sound system too. If you haven't sat in a S60 with the Bower's & Wilkins system then do yourself a favor and go test one.

Love my 2007 m66 example, one thing you could have touched on is the aftermarket parts availability is surprising, everything from performance valves to duel plate clutches to two piece rotor kits and much much more in-between. Also it's common for guys hunting power to swap to the 2.3 5 cylinder or just take the original motor and put in mid sleeves.
Either way great video and they make good sleepers to tune.

I generally dislike people who buy s60r. Because they buy it with the purpose of destroying it by modding it. They throw out the 4c suspension, they add their own skirts, fronts and everything. Tear the engine apart or swap it with a t5 in order to make more horsepowers and etc. Generally they destroy the thing which is a classic in the making. How many Volvo 850trs are out there today? Not very many, and out of the ones left? Which one is the one that will get sold? The one that hasn't been destroyed with mods. Only a couple of thousands of these were made and it is difficult and more difficult to get parts for them, and claiming maintenance is cheap is a joke.
Buy these, take care of em, keep em original, do some racing whatever you want. But there is no reason to buy a s60r if you intend to mod it and make it into something that you could make with legit any other s60 out there.

I've owned one since 2012. Put over 200,000 miles on it since I got it. I've broken 2 angle gears (one exploded, one stripped) - 5 speed auto has held up well. I swapped the electronic suspension out for those BC coil overs and never looked back. 50k to 100k for LCA bushings - great. AWD and ALL WEATHER sports car - if you want to drag race, pick a wet / slick day, ask me how I know.
The Brembos are all 4 corners. I've got Enkeis on top of my stock 18's and love them! The bolt pattern isn't as weird as the brake offsets you have to do on these cars.
I can say this, with 285,000 miles on it, I'm driving it 75 miles a day right now for work - and it's just comfortable and goes great. I know I've left some ponies out - the cat is original and so are the fuel injectors (!) but the power is still more than enough to go from 60 to 100 mph passing a semi on a straight piece of road. It just pulls. I'm sure it's in the 15s in the quarter, but these are NOT 1/4 mile drag cars - they are FAST, but not QUICK.
And they beat anything except a parking lot.
