Linken200 Hello! I’m the editor of UTS and just wanted to say that your clip had the whole office dying laughing 😂 I think I watched it 100 times - awesome shot!
True story. I was in college and my car was totaled. So I needed a car since I was commuting to school not living on campus to save money. Had 300 dollars, went to a used car lot and bought the only 300 dollar car, a 1978 Volvo tan station wagon. It had the rare 5th gear electric overdrive that used a switch on top of the shift knob. Anyway, it had 250k miles,on it, I changed the oil and put brake pads on it. Got another 250k on it before the body started falling off it. It had just over 500,000 miles when it was sold for 300 dollars back to the guy I bought it from. Well a couple guys were restoring a late 70s Volvo and contacted the guy with my old one with the rare overdrive and they went to open up the engine and transmission but saw they looked great and simply put new seals in it and called it good, this was for a higher end restoration. The old Volvos rocked period!
This is so true. The cars all are unrated, but we as long-time drivers see the value in design far beyond the standard car's warranty. Nice work Volvo #1.
I own a 1992 740 wagon. It has over 420K miles and driven daily. It’s been in my family since new. No rebuilding of engine or transmission. Has never had valve cover removed. No accidents and paint is still in great shape. Driver seat will need recovered but rest of interior is great. I have been to 38 states in it and to my knowledge it has never needed a tow or left anyone stranded. I recently purchased a 1993 240 with 126K miles. It is in great shape and service records from new. I got it as my sons first car. If he takes care of it no doubt he can pass it on to his kid someday in the future. These cars were built to last a lifetime. No car will ever be built like these again. I will drive these until I’m no longer able to drive.
I had a 1982 Volvo GLT manual Turbowagon...Silver with blue cloth interior. I put 175,000 miles on it in 5 years and it was bulletproof. I sold it in 1987 to a Manhattan chicken restaurant for deliveries. It's still their primary delivery vehicle. I then leased a manual 1988 SAAB 900 Turbo, black over tan leather. Awesome car. Then I bought a 1991 Toyota Cressida, white over gray leather. Sold it in 2011 for $9,600 with 195,000 miles on the clock...and it needed a head gasket. The purchaser is still driving it. My current car is a 2008 SAAB 9-5 with 93,000 miles. It's as reliable as any car I've ever owned. Hope to keep it for another 10 years.
That 1993 240 will go forever. it even has an airbag. Frankly I wish that I still had my 1982 GLT Turbowagon. I always loved upgrading it from IPD in Oregon. The Swedish made great cars. I always coveted a P1800ES. Unfortunately I live in Manhattan, where parking is impossible and expensive. People criticize GM and the later SAABs. All I know is that my 9-5 is just about the safest car on the road, gets 32 mpg on the highway, is comfortable, reliable, and parts are plentiful and reasonable.
That’s incredible to hear it’s still being used daily by you with over 400k on the clock. Built to last. Hopefully it’ll last another £200k & more years of happy motoring 😀👌
I just hope your son doesn't wreck it. So many of these 240 & 740's are being passed on to sons and daughters as their first car and unnecessarily ending up in the salvage yard. Sigh!

There will never be a more reliable car than a Volvo 240. My parents had a couple of 240s when I was a kid and a 760 turbo passed down from my grandmother. Every single one made it over 300,000 miles with basic maintenance. The 760 turbo was finally scrapped in 2014 with 518,000 miles and not because the engine was junk but rather the body rot from all those New England winters. In fact the drive train never came out of that car. It even had the original alternator Just unbelievable cars.

My family owned a Volvo 240 DL from 1986, it was a wedding gift from my uncle when my parents got married in 1992. We owned the car for 14 years and never had any trouble with it! Always running and always working! Volvos are great!

My grandfather had a volvo 240 estate, as I got older and started to watch racing and drifting etc. The 240 all of a sudden came back into my mind, I really can't believe right now in my life is a 240 estate car from the 80s. I will have one someday, but it wont be anything like my grandfathers.
In German too. Fun thing about Swedish, Dutch, Danish and Norwegian... If you speak German and English, you can understand them all pretty well and even learn the language by listening. En biljett till Göteborg centrum. Tack så mycket. My first sentence I used in Sweden. Bare in mind, I never learned swedish back then.
I daily drive a 1990 240 wagon ma bought new as her 60th birthday present to herself. She put the first 300,000+ km on it. In the last 5 years I have about doubled that. Arthur just keeps going strong. As for emissions, his unburned hydrocarbon output is 25% of the allowable limit. They truly are tanks.
You should do an episode on the Ford Escort... Okay, OKAY! Hear me out. Compare the (Lame Duck) FWD USDM Ford Escort, to the Awesome Euro spec Ford Escort which started out RWD and than got turbos and AWD and Cosworth racing head and went rally racing... Actually they were Rally Racing the whole time, but any way... I don't know, pad it out with stories of how terrible the 2nd gen USDM Escorts were, and how they like to break the head into (not TWO but) three pieces when the engine got anywhere near over heating... Still lacking material... Um mention the USDM SPEC AWD Tempos, the turbo Exps, and ZX2 S/R, that never got out of the shadow of the Escort.
Ive never owned a Volvo before, never knew what the big deal was. Then in 2011 i got a Polestar c30 T5 and it was the best car ive ever own, and now because of that im getting another Volvo, the Polestar S60. Great cars, Volvo deserves to be more popular than it is.
I’ve got a 2011 regular T5 C30 and it’s been extremely reliable. I have 111,000 miles on it now and I had a minor leak at 5,000 miles and then my battery needs replacing every 40,000.00. That’s it’s they’re awesome cars and the face lifted one still look brand new
- M.D.C - I have a non turbo, so yeah she’s pretty slow. From what I’ve heard the turbos are a LOT faster. She’s so much fun though, and super easy to control. I may not get up to speed quickly but put me on a mountain pass with almost any stock car and I can at least keep up. I don’t have the funds to modify the engine or put a turbo kit on or anything like that, so I’ve focused on making her fast in the corners while still being a comfortable car. Lowered springs (-1.25 back, -1.75 front), bilstein shocks and struts, I’m gonna get some könig rims and put a sticky tire on them then get some sway bars.
I really appreciate the knowledge that you have shared about the Volvo 240. I own a 1987 model, and it is interesting to learn what it takes to keep her "Up to Speed". Thank You

The "T" in GLT does not stand for Turbo. GL = Grand Luxe. GLT = Grand Luxe Touring. GLE = Grand Luxe Executive.
Yeah my 96 850 glt ain't a turbo lol.
listen just a joke but nice info :D
Jeremiah Boria Yeah, wasn't really sure if he was sarcastic or not but wanted to make that clear for other people that maybe actually belived that T stood for turbo.
Fioaoiudou Yeah i have a 744 GLT and the orginal motor was a 16valve and not a turbo
orignal motor? whats in there now, tho?

Is that toby from the office
Totally is. 😂
lol, good call
beat me to it! 😂
No that is Patrick.
My family owned a Volvo 240 DL from 1986, it was a wedding gift from my uncle when my parents got married in 1992. We owned the car for 14 years and never had any trouble with it! Always running and always working! Volvos are great!
This is EVERYTHING you need to know to get Up To Speed... on the Toyota Prius.
Do it. u_u
No thanks.
No no no no no no no no no
Actually not a bad story, esp the pollution truths of manufacturing.
i'd love to actually see them do this because it'd probably be pretty funny
YES
Mmm...
Prius is...
Uhhh
Uhhhhhhh
I want to second that request for an Up to Speed on Doug DeMuro from yesterday (or whenever it was)
HE's THE QUIRCKIEST REVIEWER YOU'VE EVER SEEN
*cut to Doug laughing while driving a car
HERES EVERTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO GET UP TO SPEED ON
DOUG FREAKING DEMURO
Murphy Family what did Doug do?
I had a 1983 GLT. Flat hood conversion, and it was a lot of fun with 15 psi of boost. One of the best cars I had! Only downside was Kjet!
Did anyone else catch that the Volvo engineers were all the Skarsgårds? 4:59
every accent in europe is german except french for pumphrey... :/
Blame his dad.
Or English
My grandfather had a volvo 240 estate, as I got older and started to watch racing and drifting etc. The 240 all of a sudden came back into my mind, I really can't believe right now in my life is a 240 estate car from the 80s. I will have one someday, but it wont be anything like my grandfathers.
I have been waiting on this for ages. I drive a Volvo 940 2.3 turbo. And it is class.
One question. what colour?
craazyy22 charcoal pearl metallic grey.
Same here, I drive a 240 wagon from 1980.
I love it
kallecan wagons/estates (as I call them) are the best
Just how much effort you put into making advertisement user friendly is awesome! In fact I could watch your "FIXED" ad's all day! :D
”Katalysator” is catalytic converter in swedish
In dutch to!
Katalysaattori in finnish
In German too. Fun thing about Swedish, Dutch, Danish and Norwegian... If you speak German and English, you can understand them all pretty well and even learn the language by listening.
En biljett till Göteborg centrum. Tack så mycket. My first sentence I used in Sweden. Bare in mind, I never learned swedish back then.
Yea, 'katalizator' in Polish also.
I'm surprised I didn't see a clip from the movie "Four Brothers" where they're talking about how safe the Volvo is.
Lee Bays I was waiting for the Robocop ad
5:10 please never get rid of this kind of animation 😂😂😂
Please make more of these animations 😂😂😂😂
I daily drive a 1990 240 wagon ma bought new as her 60th birthday present to herself. She put the first 300,000+ km on it. In the last 5 years I have about doubled that. Arthur just keeps going strong. As for emissions, his unburned hydrocarbon output is 25% of the allowable limit. They truly are tanks.
YES. THE VIDEO I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR! 240 for life!
Yaaaàaaaaas, I'm so happy you made this video. I accidentally opened RUclips and saw the video and screamed out of happiness
Mad respect when he siad it's 'It's just an honest car'
We want Volvo 850 - Up to speed
AMEN, preach on brother. And add classic V70R while you re at it.
Henry Cejudo Let’s make both: the R/Polestar label :)
Not the 800-Series, please.
Fucciny why not ?

I just bought a volvo 242 1976 B20 a few days ago and wow! I really love it! So simple yet good design and really easy to work on.
It's not Up To Speed without a dad joke! Lmao.
It's not James without a dad....
No, it's not a _VOLVO_ Up To Speed without a dad joke.
You guys rock. Best car show on RUclips... period.
I grew up in a 245 Turbo -83. We had it untill it got stolen, was found and the insurance company didnt want to restore it.
I really want to see a Ford Escort MK2 Episode!
Ive never owned a Volvo before, never knew what the big deal was. Then in 2011 i got a Polestar c30 T5 and it was the best car ive ever own, and now because of that im getting another Volvo, the Polestar S60. Great cars, Volvo deserves to be more popular than it is.
Do you still have the c30 , and how reliable is it?
I’ve got a 2011 regular T5 C30 and it’s been extremely reliable. I have 111,000 miles on it now and I had a minor leak at 5,000 miles and then my battery needs replacing every 40,000.00. That’s it’s they’re awesome cars and the face lifted one still look brand new
As a 240 owner, mark my words, I want my next car to be a c30
@@charliemcmillan4230 is the 240 slow?
The fact that they put Mikael Åkerfäldt at 1:43 makes me love Donut even more.
I really appreciate the knowledge that you have shared about the Volvo 240. I own a 1987 model, and it is interesting to learn what it takes to keep her "Up to Speed". Thank You
Am i really the only one wondering why this video is hidden, and only has 600 views and 20 comments? Are we the chosen ones to be watching this video? Edit: Never mind they made it public now. I tought i was special :(
bart2678 i think the same
you are special :D
Kristoffer Hårstad ahh thanks man :)
about the 10th time ive watched this still puts a smile on my face
You guys did NOT just use Toby as a NHTSA admin 😂😂😂
Lol I just asked if that was Toby. Im glad Im not the only one who noticed.
"I told him it was me or the Volvo."
"IT WAS THE LONGEST ENHJULSBÖÖRN I'VE EVER SEEN!!!!!"
TNTFreddan najs
Dont undersand but i guess volvo won. So cheers mate
krycho15 well he basically said he pulled a fat burnout
...with one one wheel. All I need now is a D24 Turbo and my life is complete
Dear Donut team, I’d like to request you guys to make an Up To Speed episode about Volvo 850, another iconic and revolutionary (among Volvos) Volvo, thanks!
Am I the only one who finds it funny that the 240 and the Nissan 240sx are both tuner monsters with the same name?
Connor Niece and both are mainly used to do skids
You should do the Ford Ranger since it’s coming back this year and it was such an insanely popular little pickup truck.
Volvo 240 is a masterpiece. It will be most wanted classic in future. Dont ever lose it!
SAAB 900 - Everything You Need to Know | Up to Speed
Make it happen.
They had a saab episode
yeah saab in general episode.
@@juhoqqeli i feel like they cant because its going to be short
my cousin has a Volve 240 wagon. He loves it even though he spends every other day fixing some part of the car by hand for the last year.
That's another perk. You can fix everything by yourself 👍👍
I grew up in the City of Falls Church, Va and remember these as a kid. The 240 Police Package was called the "Don Beyer Special" because Don Beyer Volvo in Falls Church sold and outfitted the cars. Since the City of Falls Church Virginia is such a small city, they thought there was no need for a fast police car. Love you...
Lexus is300 next?
Yes!
Or gs300
Aka Altezza
“Sweden’s greatest minds” wAS THAT MIKAEL ÅKERFELDT
that's some really unexpected stuff.
Yeah, these guys also have great music taste apparently! \m/
Yup. Felix Kjellberg, Dolph Lundgren, Mikael Akerfeldt, Markus Persson and Stieg Larsson.
Kristofer Svanholt Jimmie Åkessons
What abaot Malin Akerfeldt? @@MrSvanholt
I've had a 242 for 20+ years. It makes 1000hp and doesnt have a single spot of rust. Its my pride and joy
Do a video about 740 Volvo please and talk about BILTEMAKORV (Biltema sausage)
240 > 740
Please finish the Toyota trio and do the Celica already please.
Fuck a celica one would be so sweet. Just bought myself a gen 5 jdm celica
Been asking for a year straight. I wish people would think of ST-165/185/205 when they think “Celica” but I believe they think of that god awful final abortion.
I would be happy to own 1 of these.
I’m pretty sure it was used in Group B, which is something I’d like besides 90’s JDM
Drive a 240 everyday i love em #volvo4lyfe
Im soon 18yo and in here Finland im offically adult and im going to get my driver license soon! Im looking for this bolvo 240 dl 2.0 vagon and I found one thats driven about 170 000 kilometers and thats is not much at all and its in perfect condition overall and i can get it only for 3 800€
@@niemilau01 get it man, you'll love it
@@infiniteblue895 my friend is 2years older than me and I have driven with his 2.0 240 wagon and it was so freking fun to drive with it and its really durable car, I mean you can drive for like 500kilometers without any worries if you just drive normally without raping the engine itself
Your profile photo look like the kid who beats his mother in the series beyond scared
the fact that mikael arkerfeldt was in the greatest minds of sweden makes me so fucking happy
BY THE LIGHT OF THE MOON Amen!
I recently bought a 2001 Volvo S60 and now I can see myself becoming an enthusiast.
I owned a 1984 240 saloon (when it was around 5 years old) so I actually hurt myself laughing when you said they were light and handled well!
I realise you must have been comparing the Volvo to the American home market cars of the era!
Thanks for the laugh and I have subscribed.
A Volvo is basically a Swedish tank in the disguise
When a Volvo box on wheels is faster than a Porsche...
And still retains to ability to survive any crash
its my turn for... RAMCHARGERS!
TheSilverstamp that would be a good one for up to speed
I love that you put Mikael Åkerfeldt as one of the greatest minds in Sweden \m/
"volvo wanted to make cars for people, which i know, sounds obvious. what are they gonna do, make cars for dogs?"
whoever is the the new writer, give him a god darn raise cause he deserves it
Volvo is best, I have Volvo 240 with 16v swap with hx35 turbo
Really?
Mr Cow is in the house Yeah been saving up and hoarding parts for about 10 years and I still don't have a decent transmission in there like a T5 or something so that is next step. Just in case you were wondering I bought the 16v head off eBay 10 years ago for about $350 to my door. It's tough to find them now though. Alot of Yoshifab conversion parts are on there as well. Conrods are RSI hbeams with custom 16v pistons at 8.1 cr made buy a guy on Turbobricks.com The turbo came from the junkyard.
any videos of it on your channel? Anywhere we can see this? I would love to see it honestly. Any videos on it or anything? lmao
@@willriley1619 any fourm posts?
