I’m a nurse and I was injured on the job by a 560 pound woman who expected me and another nurse to stop her from hitting the ground because she wouldn’t put any effort into walking to prevent blood clots. I was put on medical leave for 4 months and I now deal with chronic pain because of this incident. The woman that injured gave me a half assed apology and later said I shouldn’t be a nurse if I’m unable to help patients. I was fuming mad, like lady it’s not like I have to help 500+ pound patients walk everyday but I was trying to prevent you from getting blood clots.
They believe everyone should cater to them and they’re always complaining about something. As a nurse they make our jobs so much harder because they will not help themselves and are stuck believing the world should change for them. I love my job because I love helping people but I would be lying if I said I don’t hate to see obese patients come in time and time again over issues they’ve caused themselves.

So, her problems may be largely “wah I can’t fit into an airplane seat!” for now; but sooner or later her problems are going to be … being immobile, being on the brink of death, etc. I don’t wish that for her, but unfortunately that seems to be the direction she’s going in 😕

Wasn't the unable to wipe myself that was the wake up call. It wasn't un able to walk 20 ft. I can go on and on. It was a 911 call where 6 firefighters and 2 ambulances had to carry me out of my room on a tarp. Was embarrassing. I am now 419 living best life I can. Don’t get me wrong, was all sorts of other craziness that comes along with having strangers in your car (especially as a woman), but if someone really expected me to have a seatbelt extender available for them, that’s a joke. Uber and Lyft are barely even worth the time/gas $/wear and tear/psychological damage from spending time in San Francisco traffic. I lift, and still struggle days 😂 but it inspires me to train ever more ALSO making sure myself and my agents are sensitive to all passengers; is so incredibly important. Of course there will be bad apples but it is PER POLICY (at least with my company) that if a passenger is too large for an agent to push through TSA and the airport; they are to communicate this to their managers so that another agent can come to assist. My husband and I just flew recently and one of our stops was Chicago O’Hare airport. We were exiting the plane and on the jet bridge to get back in to the airport. We were waiting for our luggage in the jet bridge and a worker showed up with a wheelchair. She was a woman in I would say her 60s. She was there to pick up a rather obese older woman. I would say the passenger was close to 400 pounds. The worker was having a difficult time pushing the woman up the incline of the jet bridge, and especially at a spot where there was a bit of the bump connecting the one ramp to the Jetbridge. We tried helping the worker push the wheelchair with the woman in it over that bump and we were struggling. The worker then asked/told my husband to take over for her since he’s a man 🙄 my husband is very much a person that wants to help people no matter what, so I’m left scrambling to grab our luggage while he’s trying to push this obese older woman over the bump and the worker is pushing my husband on his back to try and “help” get the woman over the bump. I was trying to tell my husband we should probably just have the worker contact another worker to help because one of my first thoughts went to if the worker got injured they might at least be somewhat covered by their company/short/long term disability. My husband would not. And the part that really irked me was he has a bad back to begin with where he’ll go weeks at a time with his muscles spasming. He did something to his back Mother’s Day weekend planting flowers in his mother’s yard and after almost 2 months it was finally feeling better on that trip. And then he got roped in to pushing this obese woman.
I’m not trying to sound rude about it and of course I’m glad my husband was able to help the woman, however, it was taking 3 adults to push this woman up the dang ramp. It irritates me when other people have to cater to the needs of others when they put themselves in that position. And I’ll add that the passenger never even said thank you to us/my husband as fellow passengers to help push her. It’s not like we were workers. Of course I want to help out fellow humans and I do very often without expecting a thank you. But this situation rubbed me the wrong way because I imagined my husband injuring his back that had just started to feel better that freaking day after being in pain for almost 2 months.

I have disabilities I was born with. I don’t necessarily get “offended” when she calls herself disabled because she is disabled. She did do this to herself but she’s still disabled. I do think her expecting every single Uber cab to have extenders for this specifically is pretty entitled though.

This person is just fundamentally misinformed about the rideshare business plan. They aren't gonna reimburse anybody for anything.

The problem with "healthy at every size" is they do not define healthy. If you can't walk around a grocery store or down an airplane ramp without serious repercussions, you are not heatlhy. Period.

Here's my question... if someone knows they need a seatbelt extender, why couldn't they just buy one themselves and make sure they bring it along whenever they need a ride??? Why are we forcing every single rideshare person (usually people working extremely part time and making pittance) to have one on hand in the off chance that they pick up a passenger who needs it, rather than expecting the passenger to carry one themselves? 🙄
