She's doing this knowing people who disagree will give her the most engagement, and knows she's harming the minds of the few others that begin to believe her as she does it. She doesn't deserve a platform anywhere.

I love how the young folk think that HR is there to help you. As an elder millennial who’s worked several jobs, I can tell you that HR does not like it when employees bring up squabbles with coworkers or bosses. You bring stuff like this to HR and they’ll deem you as the problem. And if you continue to pose this nuisance to them, they’ll get rid of you. Pick your battles, folks. It’s messed up but it’s true.

    RE: the first point
I have anorexia. Hearing people talking about dieting is uncomfortable. Coming back to work after gaining weight in treatment and hearing people talk about losing weight sucked. I learned how to deal with triggers like this because I would never for a second expect people to change the way they talk when they’re around me. People have different goals. Someone else talking about wanting to lose weight could be a positive healthy move for them and I can encourage it without making it about me
You can’t forcefully change the world around you but you can change how you cope (within reason obviously it’s different if someone is being a dick to you)

    • @Lau3464l
      @Lau3464l 9 месяцев назад +17

100% agree. It’s our responsibility to ourselves to learn how to cope with uncomfortable situations because we will never be able to control every environment we’re in, no matter what. It’s also impossible for us to cater to everyone around us all the time! Coping with discomfort is like 80% of dealing with life, and it’s one of the best things we can ever learn to do for ourselves!

Okay that rocking chair story made me mad!
Yes, a lot of mass produced furniture is made like S...now.
However, many heirloom pieces from the early 20th century are more much higher quality and if that chair survived this long it probably was!
Now, is a rocking chair worth more than a person's psyche? Of course not!
I'm not saying that. Which is why FatGirlFlow's mom said what she did. Because she loves her child and doesn't want to see them hurt, physically or emotionally.
However, this self-centered narcissist doesn't even appreciate that as a sign of how much her mother loves her. She just takes it "oh she's right, it's not my fault, furniture just sucks!"

A friend was talking about gaining 9lbs and being bloated and feeling gross in our freshman year. She was significantly smaller than I was and I had been feeling great about losing a dress size after moving regularly and reducing sugar.
Guess I made a face- she said what. I was honest and said ‘if you think you’re gross and fat I can only imagine how you see me’. She said honestly she thought I was pretty and nothing else. She doesn’t impose how she view herself on others Since her body isn’t theirs. Her body changed in a way she didn’t like. It had nothing to do with me or my body.
    And she was right.

An engaged lady and I (who was already married) sat at desks next to each other in this big office room, and were talking about wedding planning, just the two of us. Then we get an email from a Chinese male coworker who sat a bit further away, but who obviously overheard us, telling us how insensitive we were being because the only other woman who sat in the room, who I guess could have overheard us, was unmarried (and also Chinese) and it was very insensitive to talk about weddings and getting married when she was single. The engaged lady and I looked at each other in a puzzled way. The only thing I can think is that maybe in Chinese culture it's a stigma to be a young unmarried woman and he thought she would be very upset by hearing wedding talk? But why not trust her to speak up for herself if that were the case?

So body positivity reminded that you dont need to have an ed and have an extremelly thin body, your body is okay. That did not mean that being severelly obese was okay. Having a normal looking healthy body is totally fine you dont need to do crazy shit. That was the message. Years ago, being fat was like having a normal healthy weight. But then, real fat people with real unhealthy overweight started to taking these points, to the point that it became an excuse to not change their unhealthy habits or lifestyle. That is the point we are today in, that they think that anyone who is not obese should not be inside the "bodypositive movement" and that wanting healthy change or healthy weightloss is a moral failure.

It's really doubtful that her grandma's heirloom chair which was like made when people actually built things really well and out of solid wood, would be so cheaply made it just broke for no reason. The fact it survived all those years is kind of testament to that. And yeah your Mom said that because she is an enabler... it explains alot honestly.

As someone who works in the furniture industry.
    1. You get what you pay for. Solid furniture is expensive and heavy so it cost more to ship and make etc.
    2. Heirloom furniture is built very well. There’s a lot of high end manufactures that still use the “old” way of making furniture because it’s tied to their name and made to last rather than be “trendy” only. It may be old and worn but should last.
I have my great grandmothers rocking chair. (I’m the 4th generation to own it.) And that thing is built to last.

arfid often does lead to obesity despite having restrictive in the name, because many sufferers prefer highly processed foods that have no risk of differing taste/texture from yesterday's portion, the way that a banana or cucumber might. a pop tart tastes the same no matter what, but an apple might be crunchy today and then tomorrow's is mealy & squishy. kianna docherty made a good video about a woman who may have been suffering from it.

Never once have they used ARFID to make excuses for their body weight/physical health. They saw the problem that their extra weight was causing and went to a psychatrist and mental health counselor to find ways around their ARFID and how to eat healthier. They are down 80lbs!
It makes me really upset to see people using ARFID as an excuse for why they can now go the opposite direction and be unhealthy

I started cleaning up my diet that day (partly because I can't afford insulin) and im now in the 190's (ive been fluctuating lately mainly because I've been stress eating) with my diabetes in remission. Guess what, the same dietary choices that decrease blood sugar usually also help weight loss!

Honestly, I've been over 400lbs and I looked at myself in the mirror and could see I was killing myself. I couldn't walk, I couldn't empty the dishwasher without taking breaks. I couldn't shower without back pain. I couldn't exist without hurting. I'm 130lbs down, through a really long emotional journey these past 3 years of tending to myself and being kind to myself, and being patient with myself. Doing what she said and listening to my body and eating things that make me feel good (nutrition) and not overeating (numb and full and miserable). I feel like I've been trapped in a pit and I've been climbing out of it. People like her actually make me sick, because I feel like the same type of people who go to her are probably the same people where I was 3 years ago. People looking for support and help and she poisons them and I honestly think she's a selfish and terrible human being.

If any of us in the department are talking about dieting or how we are fat or chubby, said woman will speak up and say it’s triggering language for her. You know, that’s fair. You got problems. You’re trying to work through them in your own way (she recently started going to therapy) and now if we want to talk about our own weight loss journey, we just don’t talk about it in front of her. We have a small department, we try to be respectful. She has set up a boundary and we try to respect that. Honest communication with your coworkers is gold. No reason to go to HR!

I can see where Corissa is coming from (stay with me) in that there is a huge amount of talk, particularly at the start of the year, about weight loss and it’s hard to avoid. And it’s exhausting. But that’s not on other people to moderate their conversations. I think the language around how we talk about bodies isn’t healthy for women in particular.
And she is saying it’s only now she has discovered “joyful movement” but isn’t that what she has been bleating on about for years?
Both her and her partner are eating their way into health issues and immobility in their 30’s. I don’t even think J is 32 yet. And they’re living the life of someone in their 90’s. You can play mental gymnastics as much as you like but I refuse to believe you can be physically and mentally healthy not being able to do basic life tasks in your early 30’s.

The thing is, my grandparents lived in Nicaragua and had poor access to medical care. It is MIND BLOWING to me that someone who lives in the United States and has access to medicine would choose not to make changes that would help with diabetes. T2 diabetes is SO manageable with dietary changes and exercise. My cousin's uncle had a leg amputated because of his diabetes. Her disregard for the impact of food on that disease is frankly insulting.

I had gained and lost repeatedly, until this most recent time losing, where I was able to get to the root of the problem with a simple mind set shift. As a formerly fat person I can say that from my personal experience, you can put all of the proverbial bandaids on but you won’t be successful long term until you’re able to make that huge mental shift. It’s FINE to ask the latter of them as long as you are ok with either answer. If they move on to another topic no issue. Great. If they say they don’t want to. Great. You can leave. Neither is wrong. I have multiple relatives with ARFID. it’s often tied to anxiety/OCD or sensory processing disorders. One of the hallmarks is that they often have “failure to thrive” (ie fall very short of the expected height/weight milestones) as kids because they are so restrictive in their food anxiety that they will simply not eat if their “safe” foods are not available, or will not eat in certain settings, or won’t eat a caloric-sufficient amount of their chosen foods because of anxiety, etc. That said, it’s not a condition that goes hand in hand with pre-diabetes and obesity. Maybe she does have it, but immediately it brought to mind Tess Holliday and her anorexia claims in my mind
