Bury me in Lyttleton Harbour with this inscript on my gravestone: "I've seen the towering moutains of New Zealand, rise perpendicularly from the depth of the seas,, I've seen the sparkling waters of the Waitemata and I've seen the infinite expanse of the Great Southern Ocean-- Now--In the Middle of your Deep Blue Sea, anchor me." My emotions go wild when I hear this song!!!!
Nah, don't agree Warwick. He's already well loved, recognised and respected by those who know him and his work, where I come from anyway. We will miss him though. Yes he is a genius. But he's got plenty of miles left yet?!!
Just been listening to Holden Horse and this Kiei tune popped up - so so good. So many memories of Ponsonby Road late nights at The Chapel …ahhh heaven.
I came across this song only a couple of months ago (I'm an Aussie and was checking out other NZ bands) and now can't get it out of my head. Absolute classic, so peaceful and deep (pun intended). Should have been a huge hit worldwide.
I actually just returned from a cruise around NZ and as we docked in Auckland, I stuck in my earphones and listened to this song again. It seemed extremely appropriate. What a beautiful country and you have certainly punched well above your weight musically I can tell you.
My o my , this song so reminds me of my time in N.Z....driving a wrecked car on the "wrong" side of the road with "Anchor me" on the radio, feeling totally freedom...I remember me crying beause I was so happy and so yust myself , nothing else...
We need to hold on to those moments. We are lucky to have them to remember, we realise, as we move through life and realise how dare tend precious those feelings are. Life is so short.

I played this song to our junior surf nippers at Ocean Beach Kiwi surf club incessantly for about 4 years until they lost interest. A great song and i bet a few of them still love it.
Oh New Zealand is awesome, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else! The musicians from here are epic, sadly a lot go overseas, but the great ones come back ❤
Love this song. Introduced me to the band in London in '97 when a Kiwi flat mate was listening to it in his room. Thanks Pauly. A great band with so many great songs. Missed the reunion concert in NZ - please tour Australia, Don an co!
...Nothing of him that doth fade, But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange. Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell: Ding-dong. Hark! now I hear them,-ding-dong, bell I love song lyrics that obliquely reference others - not plagiarism, but you know somewhere, long ago, they've heard it. Fabulous song; RVW wrote music to accompany the Shakespeare original ruclips.net/video/T14nr2ZhMCg/видео.html
All English speakers inadvertently plagiarise Shakespeare on a daily basis. But there’s nothing half-forgotten here, it is a direct reference and homage just as Sylvia Path. Thank you for the remembering and the link.

Best nz song ever . Go the mutton birds And all there songs . Would love to see them live but I have kids haha and it cost too much here in nz to do anything including living so listening to music like this makes it a little more bearable .
this was a track when I was back at school like 15 years ago love it......on you tube after living in London for almost 10 years going back in time, I need a kick in the ass to go home
Beautiful song, classic Muttonbirds. Its first line is from Ariel's song in The Tempest to tell Ferdinand his father has drowned... Full fathom five thy father lies Of his bones are coral made
far out - just trying to learn this on guitar and singing - seems simple on the surface but for little old me pretty tricky twists and turns in the vocal - he makes it sound easy ... and I love how the C# chord is ambiguous - could be major or minor - a very cunning song in many ways ... deep like the sea :-)
this song reminds me of landing at wellington airport in a boeing 737 air newzealand on a cold rainy day :) also of being in a plane for some reason :) love the song to
@paulandolly big one for me living in the uk was "i wish i was in wellington" heard it when i bothered to visit all the home sick kiwis in london, i will never work out why so many of my countrymen didn't bother to live north of london to live in the "real england". London for me was a great place to visit but would rather live alot more north of the big smoke!
when this album was released there was an ecm instore comp you had to design a displat Brigett ellis made this awesome sheep with beautiful angle wings hanging by fishing wire and yes our store won ..Love Dons voice
Been a fanatic for this band since first hearing them in 1995. Simply one of the most original and distinctive EVER. The fact that here in the USA they remained unknown is criminal. Meanwhile, vapid illiterate noise passes for big selling popular music among the great unwashed... The economy of writing and use of nauticalisms in lyrics here is stunning. Simply stunning. Don is in my pantheon of songsmiths, right up there with XTC's Andy Partridge and the late great Scott Miller of Game Theory and Loud Family...
I enjoy this song so much more when I am not on hold to Spark
Damn you spark 😡 ruining our NZ classics!

A technically and musically perfect song to rival any of the big international efforts. Highly underrated
what a wonderful place to grow up..early 90s Auckland
Close your eyes an lose yourself in this song.TIME LESS.
Blam Blam Blam were the first band I ever saw at High School in 1982. His songs are New Zealand anthems now and forever.
The way he sings the first chorus is so delicate. It's a beautiful tune.
Ok, it's time to get teary eyed and patriotic.
Andrew Mahon I'm proud to be a kiwi bro azwell. Chur

Goosebumps every time. What an anthem!
Is it though? It sounds like miserable drivel to me.
