  • part 2 of Schwinn cruiser repair,this is a 1983 Schwinn cruiser 5 .
    i bought this at a yard sale and the previous owner said he had some problems with the after market springer front end. now i see why and exactly what happened with the install of this very cheap reproduction schwinn springer front end. really glad he found the original fork just before i left the sale and gave to me for no extra cost. getting a little better at lighting and sound,but camera angle is off a bit. #Schwinn#springer#vintage bike #1983 schwinn.#breakingnews#vintageschwinn#schwinncruiser

    I bought one for a 26" bike repro for my 24" bike so I could put a 20" wheel on the front worked out perfect with the original kick stand (large sting ray style bike) .I had seen your vid with the common mistake of cutting them short so I did not cut it at all ( if someone cuts it short they can always cut the head tube to make up the shortage ) . I went to advanced auto and got the smallest exhaust connector the top head set fits perfect I cut it and cut the bigger out side to fit the smaller one and welded it double thickness and extended the head tube it is now 5 3/8". The bottom race needs to be bored out before press fit on the fork or it will split.

      those full size stingrays are cool, you can actually get some leg extension when riding them, if you have ever tried to ride a 20 inch wheel size stingray for a long ride it can be challenging haha

      @@faulknerfixesall Oh I wanted a 20" with 16" front but my dad was wise and bought me the 1969 sears 24" 5 speed spider with dual rear brakes I road it to JR HIGH and am 65 years old and still riding it on local bike trails 40 -48 miles a week best $79 my dad ever spent!

    i bought one too, but i am worried about its weight bearing capability, if i brace steel rods against the straight forks will that make it manage weight better, or is the curved fork too important ?

      i have seen steel braces attached to help with the load bearing aspect of the springer front end.they looked cumbersome and i dont know know how they helped -i didnt test the bike ,just saw it being ridden. the curved part is an important part of the system and the repro springers really dont have the bend in a correct manner. i have re bent a few so it rides better. i might do a video where i modify a repro springer for strength -seems to be a popular topic

      i have it,but its cut a little short for cruiser bikes and the top spring attachment part has been modified

      @@faulknerfixesall I'd like to have it if your not going to use it. I think I even may have another down tube and ring laying around. I'd be more than happy to cover shipping on it if you're just going to toss it.

      @@thisfool260 actually i need the parts for a schwinn typhoon with a repro springer,that bike has some bent struts that were damaged when somebody thought they could jump the grand canyon haha

      @@faulknerfixesall Lol damn canyon jumpers.
      Sounds good Faulkner just thought I'd ask incase you weren't going to use it. I have a springer fork already but its the bent lowrider style with twisted bars. Handles like shit. I think I'll save up and buy a straight springer. Just wish they made a decent reproduction one instead of the FnR Co. BS straight outta China. I'd pay good money for a quality American made bicycle springer.

    Does anyone actually sell quality springer forks?

      @faulknerfixesall  2 года назад

      only on eBay,they are original Schwinn and the folks selling them are on crack, I my opinion no one sells a quality reproduction springer
