Thanks for posting the whole episode!!!!! I never heard of this show until today, when I watched an old Carson video of Joan Rivers' interviewing Betty White! Plus, that first topic was a lil risqué for the 80s too! 😭😭😭
Well there were pharmas, but they were no more than 30 seconds and provided a simple explanation of the product. They were almost always OTC and not by prescription.
This was NBC's "Just Men!" starring Betty White, which was a short lived NBC Daytime Game Show Rick Rosner created and ran for only 13 weeks and 65 shows. And Rick Rosner later created and executive produced ABC's "Lottery!" which was short lived in the 1983-84 Prime Time TV season, and executive produced a revival of "The Hollywood Squares" with host John Davidson, which ran 3 seasons from 1986 to 1989 in syndication. RIP Betty White 1922-2021.
When this was aired on NBC daytime, I did not watch that episode because I was at Sutherland Elementary School with Christine Irons as teacher and Janice Lindsay as coteacher. Hey, did you know that Thursday, February 24, 1983 was my retro teacher’s birthday? Also, school lunch menu courtesy of the Glendora, CA Unified School District: Hamburger-Cheese Slice, Lettuce,_Pickle & Tomato, Tator Tots, Fruit Crisp (going to be on apple).
This is because it was so bad that NBC would rather forget it. It probably had a lot of production money poured into into by NBC executive only to be taken off the air in three short months.
Not to mention the other guy as seen in the thumbnail also had his own show, Hit Man, cancelled at the same time as this one. A least Sale of the Century was a hit, and buoyed NBC back into more game shows after having just Wheel of Fortune for most of 1982.
Because its a new show created with dall-e ai... it never existed....they add static and 80s vhs effects but its all fake to fuck with us so they can add fake commercials with....fake bews from the paaaaast spoooooky
@@PedroReyes-zs4hi Even though it was so short-lived, it was still good enough to get Betty White a Daytime Emmy. She was up against legendary emcees Dick Clark and Richard Dawson that year, so that has to say something.
I learned about this show in Betty’s book called, “ Here we go Again.” She said Grant Tinker, the chairman of NBC, canceled the show because he didn’t like the fact that Betty was moving around on the set.
Given what Monty Hall, Gene Rayburn, and Bob Barker did on their respective shows, that's just a lame reason for cancellation, as I'd assume it was just low ratings that did it in. Thanks for the fact.
It was replacing soap opera The Doctors in the noon slot, which had been running for nearly 20 years. NBC affiliates mostly preempted it for local newscasts, and if any NBC affiliates cleared it at noon, it was against established shows like Richard Dawson's Family Feud and The Young And The Restless. (In New York and Los Angeles, Just Men faced Family Feud and Tattletales). No wonder it could never get an audience.
05:17 - Keebler Townhouse Crackers - Keebler Elf voiced by Parley Baer. Milkman voiced by Alan Young (of "The Time Machine" and "Mr. Ed", and the voice of Scrooge McDuck)
To the people that said they missed the show I'm pretty sure it's the beginning of it they say it was a daytime show. So there's a good chance you wouldn't have had a chance to see it unless you were homeschooled😂 or a homemaker. Or in prison.
Yes. She made an appearance on The Tonight Show just prior to it's premiere and Betty tried to describe her show and I knew right away it was a dud. Luckily Golden Girls was right around the corner
It was mainly doomed by timeslot. NBC aired it at noon - which was mostly preempted by affiliates for local newscasts. If NBC affiliates did air the show at noon, it went up against Family Feud (with Damon Killian himself, Richard Dawson) and The Young And The Restless. In NYC and LA, it aired against Family Feud and Tattletales. Launching after the veteran soap The Doctors ended didn't help either.
I might have seen this show as a kid, but I don't remember it. I am, however. getting real Oprah vibes from this show, and I'm sure Oprah's series wouldn't premiere for another few years.
I know this was a very bad game/talk show. But, admit it. Would we be saying this was a bad show if it was called "Just Women" hosted by Lyle Waggoner?
It replaced the veteran soap The Doctors as well, not to mention most NBC affiliates would not air it at noon due to local news, and those that did air it at noon meant it competed with Family Feud (then presented by Richard Dawson) and The Young And The Restless.

That's what brought me here as well. I love that the commercials are included.
@Dee - ditto, ha!
I wager that’s why we’re all here 😊
Here in 2024 for the same reason lol. Legends Betty White and Joan Rivers together had more laughs per minute than anyone.
Same
It's funny to see all these old commercials I had forgotten about!
Commercial breaks that are 1-2 minutes and no pharma commercials! Good old days.

Some things like this show were never meant to last. I grew up never knowing this game ever existed!
I missed this show because I was in the military. Glad to finally see it, after hearing about it not long ago.

Yes indeed I do remember this game show
We will be seeing plenty of Peter Tomarken, after this video. I am not spoiling it.
im a tv geek from way back, but never heard of this.

Its like the man show? Lol

3:58 OMG! Very subtle fly by! Betty was a natural!
3:55 Angela was with us yesterday, and she won a trip to the Virgin islands....I just hope we're not too late bawhahahah Betty, you slay.

Maybe that is why the Emmy's gave her the award.
He's stupid
Webster was 40 yrs old doing that commercial. 😂
My sisters had BUF-PUFs!
When I lived with my grandparents, my grandma bought them for me and my sisters.
I’ve never seen this show before or have heard of it.
Betty: Angela won a trip to the Virgin Islands! Let's hope it's not too late!!! LOL!

Or at home sick
Unless if you knew how to program a VCR to tape it before heading off to work/school.
I'm more fascinated by the Buf Puf commercial than I am this game show 🥱
Never heard of this before.
I love Betty White as much as the next person, but this was a turkey of a show…
I thought this was a vaporwave mix....like haircuts for men lol
Didn’t Betty win an Emmy for best game show host for this too?
Yes she did!!!
This is a tough one… Betty is trying, but the format seems very confusing.
This is why it only lasted 3 months before NBC gave it the ax.

I remember this show like yesterday, and I think it was from staying home from school with the flu. I'm sure the women were more into it.
TV shows were way more generous with the prizes back in the day
You had to pay taxes!
Is Tom Sullivan the same one who Betty wrote novels with?
RIP 🪦 BETTY WHITE
RIP 🪦 BETTY WHITE
As well as Ken Berry and Peter Tomarken.
I might have seen this show as a kid, but I don't remember it. I am, however. getting real Oprah vibes from this show, and I'm sure Oprah's series wouldn't premiere for another few years.
I’m confused!
What are the rules
I know this was a very bad game/talk show. But, admit it. Would we be saying this was a bad show if it was called "Just Women" hosted by Lyle Waggoner?
What a dumb premise. I don't know what the producers were thinking . Lucky for Betty the producers of Golden Girls came calling less than a year later
