    I bought 2 of these and the Benchmade Leuku as well. I took a stone to the spine of mine and made a sick 90 degree spine. You can beat these knives thru any type of wood and never chip the Blade whatsoever.

Hate to strike a ferrorod with a beautiful knive it turns black and its a wasted man. But i would be good for scrapping wood indeed. Thx for the perfect reviews

    Many pluses *Gear Nut* to this Benchmade 200 Puukko. I ordered mine from REI at $125 USD.
    The obvious big negative is also one of the knife's pluses - The very hard *3V steel.*
    *The Steel*
    Pluses are stainless-no rusting , water resistant, stays sharp for a long time.
    Big minus is it is hard to sharpen in the field & nearly impossible to sharpen with outdoor natural sources.
    This is why many hard-core outdoor folk prefer carbon or the softer stainless steels like 440C or AUG 8.

    • @krycian825
      @krycian825 5 лет назад

      Yeah but cpm3v is pretty easy to sharpen in my opinion. And 440c has a very bad edge retention.

      @@krycian825 What is that saying *Darnell Ferraby,* opinions are like belly buttons, everyone has one. I think that is it.
      Anyway, lets talks facts:
      - stainless steels are harder to sharpen than carbon steels.
      - stainless steels weakness is they dull faster than carbon steel (hence your comment on edge retention with 440c).
      - super stainless steels are nearly impossible to sharpen in the field without modern sharpening items for everyone besides *Darnell.*

      www.thetruthaboutknives.com/2013/03/ask-a-knifemaker-the-truth-about-blade-steels/
      "ZDP-189, CPM-M4, S110V, and the current champ REX 121 (with an insane RC of 72) are all extremely hard steels that will outlast a more pedestrian alloy by 3 or 4 times before sharpening.
      BUT…there always is a tradeoff. *Sharpening a blade made of these exotic alloys is difficult.* Quality sharpening stones are required and it is NOT for beginners. Coupled with the extra brittleness and general exotic nature makes knives made from these alloys more suited to very specific tasks."

      "I started to do a little hand-sharpening and was getting nowhere fast. *CPM3V is a tough steel to begin with,* and while I don’t know exact hardness of the Kraken’s heat treatment, I am guessing it is in the 58-60 HRC range (I could be wrong and if I am I am sure to receive a clarification email which I will pass along). $125. $125. $125. Blah, blah and blah. Every Benchmade fan keeps saying the same thing. But the sheath is garbage, so the price of the knife is actually $165 minimum once you get a good sheath. There is ZERO retention, a plastic insert so you can't even wet mold it, cheap looking leather, poor quality rivets, crooked stitching....just a total fail of a package here.

    Why in God’s name would they grind a secondary bevel on a scandy grind?

    • @NickElliottOutdoors

      James Campbell
      Edge retention most likely.

    • @thebiggestpanda1
      @thebiggestpanda1 5 лет назад

      James Campbell cause most people don’t know how fragile a scandi grind is. It’s great for wood but the edge rolls very easily on anything too hard. They are likely afraid people would fuck up the edge really quickly and think it was the knifes fault so they put a sturdier grind on it.

    • @SteveSmith-sd5hq
      @SteveSmith-sd5hq 5 лет назад +1

      It's actually not a scandi grind. On video and screen it does look like it might be, especially with it being called a Puukko, but in person you can clearly see that it's just a saber, or high flat grind.

    There is some kind of epidemic of foreign knife producers call their creations puukkos. As a finn it makes me cringe when i see something so traditional and sacred just blatantly mocked.
    That blade doesn't even remotely resemble a puukko. And a rubber handle, huh?
    I recommend you to go check Iisakki Järvenpää puukkos to have some perspective in real finnish puukkos.

    • @TKDLION
      @TKDLION 5 лет назад +3

      They call them puukkos because bushcraft is popular right now. They also call a great many knives bowies that aren't anything like a real bowie.

    • @TonberryShuffle
      @TonberryShuffle 5 лет назад +2

      So, thoughts on the Terava Jaakaripuukko? Just out of curiosity?
      Also, there aren't a lot of names for Puukko-like knives aside from just calling it a Puukko. That's probably a large part of the reason that a knife that just has a few similarities will share the name also.

    • @Wildwestwrangler

    • @Enonymouse_
      @Enonymouse_ 5 лет назад

      3V is fairly hard steel, it's comparable to a tool steel IMO and should use a diamond grit to sharpen. Wouldn't recommend other means for this. A softer metal like S35 or S30 would be easier to sharpen with a variety of different sharpener sources.
      The onlything harder than this in a stainless is 4V or 4E steel, which is pretty exotic and hard to come by. A billet of this stuff is very expensive.

    It’s hardly a review if the knife never leaves your desk for the duration of the video. This isn’t a review of a functioning knife, merely a description of it and how much you like it. Show it in the field, actually do stuff with it, put it through its paces. Show someone who might be interested in purchasing this knife what it is capable of doing, besides sitting on your fancy desk.
