- Does the 200 Puukko from Benchmade have a full tang or is it two pieces?
Seeing the inside gives me some ideas for handles that could be made for this knife!
Thank you for all the support and check out my subscriber giveaway’s!
#benchmade #puukko #zachsstuff
I was starting to get sad about you ruining the knife and then I realized you could do some custom stuff to it. Nice video, good stuff man!
Yeah no kidding! Was glad to see some existing holes, which now opens up some fun options! Thank you!
Zach’s Stuff what was the diameter of the large holes? Did you add micarta scales?
*Yeah, i was cringing!*
...two of em.
Now please show us the knife with a new handle.
Gallo Shank He means, show us the the dehandled knife after putting a new handle on it.
I appreciate what you did god damn though so nerve watching to watch great information though

We need more videos like this, you know real people applying commonsense it's so rare these days. Thanks man
Thanks- looking forward to making more!! Appreciate the feedback!
Very cool, outrageous. Something you don't see on a knife channel everyday.
“I used the stones to destroy the stones”
Gonna have to get this to pair with the leuku. Good vid brother. That gives us an idea of what we're lookin at for handle customization. Much appreciated, brudda!
I try to support as many fellow knife guys as I can. Good luck and keep it up
Thanks Frank!
Nice! Looking forward to seeing the handle you come up with for this knife!
Thanks CW!
As someone who sharpens all my knives using waterstones, hearing the scraping of that edge...it sent chills down my spine ha ha.
Awesome looking forward to seeing the final result.
Thank you very much!
Cool video, I seen that knife on DBK but they didn't cut it open, I like to put custom handles on Mora's etc so very helpful. All the best with the channel dude, congrats on reaching 500 subscribers, 501 now 😜👍
Right on yeah I am glad I took the rubber off to see what was inside. Thanks for watching and subscribing! Appreciate all the support!
Thank you very much ! Very reassuring to see how well the plastic is secured to the handle.
You are welcome an$ thank you for your feedback and support! It was fun testing!
Thanks buddy. Definitely gave me some ideas for micarta handles.
Right on would love to see what you choose!
For the greater good right!? Thanks for the look through. Some wood scales or micarta would be sweet. Love me some 3V.
Yes indeed greater good for all! Was checking out some G10 online. Thanks for watching!
You have a 3v addiction sir....
A lot of potential here. Thank you for making the sacrifice. ;)
Yes indeed. You’re Welcome!
Yes, thank you for that! Very intersting with the holes, sure this handle will never detach accidentally.
Now you are able to assemble a handle of your choice. And I am curious how the original will behave over the time (esp. cold in winter).
You’re welcome! I am glad you enjoyed it. Yes cold weather will be the next test.
Very cool, did it dull the blade on the other knife doing that?
No dulling on the other Puukko!
Looks like a perfect product that would be great to stay as is . Cool video . Great price as well .
It is a great knife which is probably best as is!!! Thanks for watching and the feedback! I was very happy with the price point and quality also.
This is the most Hank Hill thing I've ever seen. Like when he used WD40 to open a stuck can of WD40
Thanks for the info. I was wondering if it was fulltang. Thanks again
You’re Welcome!
Loved it design,quality wow
I know it a old video. Thanks for getting me learned. Was wondering what size those holes in the tang were? I’m wanting to do custom scales and was wondering if I’d be able to use chainring bolts to secure them
That was exactly what I wanted to know. Now I'm going to order one.
Perfect T Wayne! Appreciate your feedback and support!
how do you like it ? trying to decide between this and Mora Garberg.
Big thumbs up for picking up that plastic / rubber handle. Interesting to see what’s under the handle.
One just has to appreciate this video.
Much appreciated!!
I would not do it for all the tea and china. But I always wondered. Now you did it, and thank you.
Bwa-ha-ha!🤣😂🤣 "That tang opened up there!"
👌🏻
Hallo Zach,
in my opinion this knife looks nice without the handle 😊. Good job.
Best regards & happy Easter holidays
Joe
Benchmade should slap some desert ironwood scales on that thing with some different colored liner options!
Yeah that would look great!
I love BM folders but honestly they’re fixed blades haven’t caught my eye until this one; can’t wait to see what you replace the handle with.
This one is a good one! Thanks for watching and I am excited to build some handles.
Thanks for doing that.
You’re Welcome!
I am sure Benchmade would have sent you some photos of the blank !
Did you put new scales on this blade? Thanks
Missed opportunity to feather stick a knife. But seriously my main question with this knife was whether is was full tang. Could not find the answer anywhere until this video. Thank you.
Glad to help answer the big question Schmidty!! Thanks for watching and the feedback!
Wow! You can do a lot of things with it in survival situation! For example great spear!
I love the Benchmade Puukko.3v is a great steel and super tough. What kind of handle did you put on it.
Thanks Jeremy! It has a Jade/Blue G-10 handle on it now.
@@zachstuff awesome idea I think that would look good.
Want to see that new handle.
Getting material sent to me. Then it’s time to do some work!
Bench made should sell handeless blades- offer at a lower price point and guys/gals can add their own preferred grip material.
That would be a cool option indeed!
I think all brands should
Oh yeah.. A good micarta handle on it would make me happy..
They're called blanks, and a lot of knife companies do sell them, check smoky mountain knife works, they have a decent selection.
Not sure how how much a handeless model would drop the price, still an expensive hunk of steel. But it would still be a cool option.
Awesome! Full tang!👍🏼
Oh yeah!
My personal choice for scales would be dymondwood, the classic look of wood with the performance of modern materials. I've got a full tang hatchet with dymondwood scales and it really holds up well to the bumps and scrapes of being used.
Oh that sounds nice! I will have to go check out the stock on those. Thanks!
you know those cold steel peace makers, i had the peace maker mark 2 and i stupidly threw it at a log and it bounced off it then smacked into a big rock and the handle was ruined completely tore open and i did not want to just wrap a load of tape around the thing. the handle was made of a very grippy and soft rubber much like the handle materiel on that puukko, i thought the knife was done for and that i would need to send it back to CS but then i saw that the tang actually had 3 perfectly spaced and lined up holes in it that would work great for pins and my own custom handle.
just found your channel btw great videos i sub'd.
Oh wow sounds like a crazy ride your C.S. took! Love that you made custom handles for it! Appreciate your support and feedback! Thanks
I really enjoyed that
Right on! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Time to put a real set of scales on it know. Just a heads up I would of used a vise.
Excited to get started on the scales! Thank you for the feedback!
Dude it hurts so much seeing you killing that godlike handle. Ofcourse you can customize it but still XD I love the santropene handle
It hurt cutting them off! Thanks for watching!
My hart breaks, when you start cutting that handle!
I know it was rough to get started on this one!
Any idea on when you'll have the scales done for this?
Should be October. Working with Big Brown Bear to get them finished.
@@zachstuff Is this still in the works? I think it would be an awesome idea to skeletonize the scales if it's not too late.
Still waiting to see an update on the custom scales. As far as we know, Zach has a scale-less puukko sitting in a drawer waisting away.
Are the handles done? I have been anticipating the new scales for 2 years! Lol
I would def take it apart and put a custom handle on it.
Yeah youve definitely voided the warranty on that knife!! LOL! But a great video, thats one solid usable knife, great steel and a solid long lasting hadle, Top notch Zach Cheerz from NZ.
Thanks Steve! Appreciate your feedback and support! Glad to hear you liked the video and the knife is a winner!
Good stuff
Hey I just whanted to say that I watched this last night and had a dream about my main knife “benchmade north fork” completely dull and destroyed anyways great video
I saw some hard use tests before with Benchmade D2 knives and I was really impressed and 3V is even tougher. Benchmade = nice stuff.
Yes indeed! The 3V is holding its edge nicely!
Did you send it back to Benchmade to fix the missing handle?
Right??!!
Wanna see it with a new handle
Definitely on my giant list of wanted knives to go with my already way to big collection it’s an addiction ☹️
Yes Barry you will enjoy this Puukko once you get it! Crazy addictions!
Yep...there it is!
Boom! Fun video!!
I'm still not convinced, do a few more
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
No kidding right??!!
😂😂😂😂😂👍
Send it to The Topicala, so he can make a really awesome handle for it. It would be well worth it ⚔️
Have not heard about Topicala. Have to look him up. Thanks for the info!
@@zachstuff He's on RUclips. He does exceptional work. His specialty is custom handles on Puukko. ⚔️
Came from LAMNIA! THANKS!
Is it possible for moisture to get stuck in these handles?
It is sealed very tightly on the blade. But nothing is ever 100%.
Nice, you bushcrafted your bushcraft knive, dawg.
😂😂😂Thank you!
Time to test that warranty
Wonder what they would say..... :)
Seriously committed to test that knife. 🤓
Trying good stuff for sure!
I think I just saw TWO Puukkos get messed up. 😨 Thanks for this video. I was wondering too.
You’re Welcome! Glad you liked it! No knives were severely damaged in the making of this video!
@@zachstuff lol
I was curious, thanks. To much holes in the tang, has a very weak point with those two close small holes close to the blade. Can't abuse it will cruck like a cookie it's always useful to cut meats
You should definitely do a Kurt mod on it. Green micarta handles
Did not expect you to cut the handles off. Do you think that it’s worth to buy it as a bushcraft knife?
Yes I have started using it in a video doing some entry level outdoor use. I think it will be a great knife for this and the steel holds its edge really well and is very strong. Used oak to pound on it for about 150-200 hits. No marks or anything. Check my other videos to see the outdoor usage.
Did you ever get a custom a handle for this knife?
Yes have it bring mounted now. Will be shaping it and posting some video soon!
Zach’s Stuff who made it for you? Can you share the link so I can order one?
@@zachstuff I am not seeing a video for this. Any chance you could link me to it?
How you gonna handle that guy?
Not sure what to drop on for handles. Didn’t know if you wanted a peek now that it’s all exposed?!
What’s the diameter of the large holes?
I am thinking a wood handle like Cherry or oak. Give it a nice finish it would be fantastic. You could go with a polymer that is clear if you wanted to display it. If you wanted to use it though a good wood handle. Great video
Oooh a clear polymer or natural G10 in the jade green would be sweet looking!! Good idea! Thanks for watching!
I'd like to see what you're going to do with the blank.
Thanks I am looking forward to it!
you could make a wicked handle for it now
Totally have that in the works. Hard to order the scale material I am looking for. So going to work with a local knife builder on his supply chain.
Did you end up making a custom handle for it?
In the works!
@@zachstuffAfter watching your video, I'm thinking about doing a handle for one. I don't like the rubber handle that comes on it.
Did you ever rescale that puukko?
Big Brown Bear is doing the re-scale right now!
This was a expensive episode noice
The sound of one blade hitting metal lol. Hope you do some custom and show us the results
Thanks Eddie! After the new year I will get them built and on the channel!
I USE A STRONG MAGNET TO CHECC THE TANG... TO FIND OUT HOW FAR IT EXTENDS
Micarta.....my personal favorite 😁
Right on!!!
Thanks for this Zach!
That's something I often do too, on this kind of gripped knife.
This will make for a great project.
I have a pretty big pile of micarta here too, and would be happy to donate some to you. Just hit me up in an email.
Oh wow thanks! Yeah beginner here for sure on handle making. I will shoot you an email. Very kind 👍🏻
awesome video !!!!!
I was kinda suspicious, but now I know for sure !!
This knife deffenatly with to buy. It will be great secondary knife in backpacking system.
I my system carbonsteel for wood , and stainlessteel for food . I'm sure many backpackers using same knife philosophy as I'm,!!
Good choices! You will enjoy this knife for sure!
You will enjoy this knife for sure! Good choices!
They straight up say it's full tang lmao.
Alumite and ebony handle with stainless steel spacers and a g10 liner that would be slick
That would look awesome! Thanks for the idea!
You can do a paracord handle.
I wanted this knife until I seen all the large holes in the tang and the 2 small ones just before the blade now I'm not so sure.
Reminds me of a mora but 100 times better, awesome!
Much better!
R u gonna show us what you did with the handle?
Can’t wait to show it off soon!
Nice solid slab of 3V, awesome. I'd put some nice wood scales on it now, but thats just me..maybe you lice micarta or g10 better. An expensive test, and I thank you..now we know for sure!
You’re Welcome! Some micarta might look nice too! Thanks for watching!
@@zachstuff Yes it would. Whatever you choose, make sure you show is the finished mod! To bad they didn't drill a small hole in between and after the 2nd and 3rd big hole like they did after the 1st ..would have been perfect for pins, although I guess you could drill them if you decide to go that route.
I was just looking it over and thinking about pins!
@@zachstuff I think pins add a touch of class as well as stability, no matter what material you go with.. Some nice mosaic pins would really look nice.
That’s a great call! Thank you!
and what did you do with it ? UPDATE PLEASE :D
It is in the caring hands of Big Brown Bear and some regrind magic and handles are being born. Hope to have it featured in July!!! Thank you for the support!
@@zachstuff Waiting ..
A small question: for bushcraft/feathers/preparing food, this or an Esee 4hm ? ..
Still the best knife ever
I just watched a man destroy not one but two knives I can't afford
Both knives were saved and are in fabulous condition!
What are you going do it that blade now?
Going to make some G10 handles I think. Have some material on order to try out.
Never thought I'd see someone slice a handle off a pricey knife like that lol. But I understand wanting to know and the love of customization. Can't wait to see the new handle.
Subbed
Yeah it took me a minute to actually start this video, but I am glad I finally did and had the opportunity to!
Did you ever dress the puukko up with a new handle?
Getting the scales on with BBB now!
Post a video of the knife with a new custom handle. That would be cool
Working on that project now!
So when is the rehandling coming?
Hadrian Jarilovic I have a meet up w/Big Brown Bear in about a week to do work on the handles! Very nice!
@@zachstuff cant wait bro!!!
The full tang has been compromised by two holes close to the blade. Strength test ?
Strength as in bending/torture style tests??
@@zachstuff Plus will it stand being bit on the back side, would it break at one of three weak points. Why theses hole in first place if covered by rubber ? Handy yes for paracord handles.
Gotcha. Yeah I will see about doing that but have to make my handles first. Probably get another one for torture testing.
@@zachstuff Could well be the compromise we are not expecting in what looks and fees a great knife.
How many Puukkos can you destroy with yours?
Just send it in for warranty, I"m sure benchmade won't mind.
True, they are very kind when it comes to their warranty! I would probably need a convincing story with a good plot twist!
