    I'm really glad they're not coating these. Also for anyone interested, BM updated the heat treat on their 3V. One of their guy's confirmed it on BladeHQ's recent show.

    Got one! The Puukko is so comfortable to use. The blade was just too short. The Leuko hits the sweet spot with the blade length and shape. The handle is not slippy. But, why Benchmade couldn't have scaled up the handle as well is sad. Probably due to a cost saving decision as they already had the Puukko handle mold and just used the same process for both. That said, the grind was off, one side being awkwardly taller with trailing scratches along the belly. A little time on the edge pro somewhat fixed the problem but some of the scratches were still visible without taking more metal off the blade. That said this was one of the few 3V blades that I easily raised a burr on causing me to question whether their heat treat process is much improved. Anyone else have that issue?

    The LEUKU is a amazing knife I put it to the test today instead of grabbing my Bolo I had to give it a torture test it held up great I'm sure the Bolo will stay on the front of my 4whlr but can't wait to take it camping. The puukko is still a great knife for lighter duty's around camp so glad Benchmade made this knife. Lord knows I didn't need another fixed blade but I had to add it to my collection. I grabbed some GL Hanson micarta to slap on both of them if we get caught up enough to work it in soon. After today I would highly recommend it For the price I payed.A custom it's not but an amazing production knife it is !!! ✌️🇺🇲💙

    I know some people may poo pop this knife for not being more modern, but it’s a proven blade. Native people in Scandinavia have been using them for chopping and butchering big game like reindeer and moose for hundreds of years. I would suppose if they’d been slipping and slicing their fingers off with it they’d have changed the design, but I’ve never attempted to use one for that purpose myself, so....... 🤷‍♂️
    Anyway, can’t wait to get my hands on one.

    Awesome! 🤙🏼

  • @carolynmiller9596
    @carolynmiller9596 4 года назад

    Dave Canterbury has settled on a 5" blade length as being the best length for the blade you always have with you in the woods, and I see his arguments as valid and respect his expertise. 3V is my favorite all-around bomb-proof steel and I'm glad Benchmade improved the heat treat on these. Unfortunately, it appears that their brief history with 3V manifests itself in the overly large edge bevel. Bark River has been producing 3V fixed blade knives for years now and I have watched their secondary bevels get smaller and smaller as they have learned through use an experience that 3V is not chippy or fragile. Bark River's convex edge also makes them more durable than a cantled (V) edge.
    The sheath seems to demonstrate that Benchmade understands the concept of a pouch-style bushcraft sheath with a dangler, but couldn't quite bring themselves to proper execution of the concept. I am unwilling to risk any knife worth carrying to a sheath built with the puukko or the leuku sheaths' shortcomings. Hopefully, Benchmade will get serious about the sheaths for these knives and stop sending them out with these pale counterfeits of what these solid knife offerings actually deserve to carry, secure, and protect them.
    Eric M.

    ITS OK, ITS COOL- Benchmade's quality has gone down in the years, but the price has increased. I have found that if you want a blade that will last the test of time, (service oriented knives) from Iraq to the Sierra Madres, EXTREMA RATIO KNIVES, if you truly need to depend of a blade.

    • @huejanus5505
      @huejanus5505 4 года назад +1

      Not really the quality, it's a heat treat problem. They make their blades too soft, less chance of breaking it but crappy at holding an edge. My 162 in S30V holds an edge about as good as 8cr.

  • @andrewsteinberg7103
    @andrewsteinberg7103 3 года назад

    sometimes you reviewers are full of it, , in my opinion, working with that handle has these triangle reaised grips do dig in hand and willleave imprints in hand and not comfortable, you will need neoprene gloves, the smaller puullo i bout was as good, sheath is unuseable, absolutley no groip on the knife if the stitching and rivet on top of shaeth was 1 mm closer in it would have been fine, you turrn my sheath upside down and out drops the knife, why did they not test it, it is not cheap knife, it is still a fixed blade, the handle should have been smooth, the rubber had enough grip with out the diamond hand hurting pattern,

  • @jacknemo8021

    I never like fixed blade designs that don't have a guard for slip protection. For specialty purposes like a Sloyd I understand, but for general field use it is a deal breaker. Hard pass.

    • @KandKo
      @KandKo 4 года назад +1

      Your hand isn't slipping off that handle, no need to worry about it. If I had to stab into wood all day and had to choose my 200 puukko or a Bark river with a guard, I'd pick the 200 every single time. Most secure and comfortable handle I've ever used.
