Talk like Darth Vader using Sulfur Hexafluoride Gas

- The speed of sound is different in different media. Normally we produce speech using a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen gas. Here we experiment with changing the gas that is passing through our vocal tract. Helium has a speed of sound that is roughly 2.5 times faster than that of air, while sulfur hexafluoride has a speed of sound roughly half that of air.
Inhaling each gas creates a dramatic change in the sound of our voices.
These gases do not provide oxygen, so repeated inhalation would result in a reduction of oxygen flowing to your brain. Do not try this experiment at home or with helium balloons at parties.
I love how much the dude on the left is digging it
I just wish to know wtf is on his collar.
He was late to work that morning and quickly dressed into his shirt without taking off the hanger.
Wade talk about a white collar
And I'm over here on the left and can't even hear a thing
Mason Lara SAME
"Dont try at home"
Sure, let me grab my sulfur hexafluoride real quick. I know its around here somewhere.
Cody Lujan same bruh
I accidentally got my sulfur hexafluoride mixed up with my bleach detergent, won't be making that mistake again.
Cody L what if you are a student or a scientific and turns out that you have this
YEP. i think if you can get ahold of this, you are ready to try this at home.
a death metal band should record an album using this stuff
Loading Info and then have one of them use the helium😂

go watch NurdRage on RUclips he been doing that for years
RootedHat no, he uses a voice encrypter. The SHF wouldn't last long enough for his videos
@@zone420s trump save us !
Except that it sinks in your lungs, if you don't purge it you could die
my right ear loves this video
Dakotta Turner Same
Dakotta Turner ikr
Dakotta Turner i always use my LEFT ear. Not because I'm a rebel,
but because my headphones are broken and I can only hear through the left one.
Dakotta Turner what do you mean? I hear out of both ears
Kibble same here i only able to hear it with my left earphone
The real question is what happends if you take them both
normal voice?, or maybe some kind of chemical reaction
Rafael Aure I found a video about it and the answer is Kermit The Frog.
ThundarZ - Blackhider
Heliums density - .02
Sulfur Hexaflouride - 6.3
It lands at about 3.2
So denser than normal air, but just not fully dense. So there is still a slight decrease in pitch.
The helium sits on top and gets used first.
ThundarZ - Blackhider nothing they cancel out?
I love how they're acting as if helium is dangerous, you just exhale. It's not that hard
Michael Colozzi too much helium causes you to pass out
Michael Colozzi idiot comment
Michael Colozzi helium is dangerous if it's all you breath.
Michael Colozzi
*face palm*
Michael Colozzi
Are you american?
My left ear is lonely :c
Alexia Blues Sorry about that. Some strange RUclips upload/encoding nonsense lost one of the audio channels.
its alright xD now im looking to buy some sulfur hexafloride xD
Alexia Blues
Tell me how it went when you breathed it in lol
+Carl Nelson You might have just uploaded the audio as mono lmao
Diablo Yamall same
Guess who's lovin' this?
Just my right ear.
I like how she breathes in the gas and then looks at him like ok, now what. You have to speak dummy lol
You can do this at home, they are both inert gasses. Just make sure you breath the sulfur hexafluoride gas all the way out.
Damstraight68 Of course I would not recommend this. Any gas other than air will not provide the necessary oxygen your body needs. Also the Sulfur Hexafluoride gas is very expensive.
+Carl Nelson As much as I respect professionals, helium and sulfur hexafloride are 100% the only damage it can cause is lack of oxygen so in all technicalities... yes you can do this at home. As long as someone is there with you to make sure you don't go over your limit and pass out.
Damstraight68 couldn't you mix some hexafluoride with pure oxygen and inhale that ?
Damstraight68 so you can still breath a bit
+Michael Blok nope because its not o2
You guys know that I have more than one ear, right?
Goose VF1 lmao
Goose VF1 whaaaaaaaattt? nooooo
"We're gonna talk about how sound propagates through different materials." In this case through the right channel of your headphones.
Thought i was the only one damn....
I like how the thumbnail is him just chugging sulfur hexaflouride.
Ian Lehman lol
Presenter tries a voice-changing gas. Forgets to speak. Great work guys.
That guy did an Elmo voice, are we all gonna ignore that
that girl looks like she has no idea what the balloon guy is talking about
Why is that woman not impressed, at all???
Invigorate i dont understand why that should be something special. in germany you can Buy that in every little shop for Party's, birthday and more just for fun
my left ear is lonely
ToshTUBE same
ToshTUBE i thought i just broke my headphones again ...good to know i didn't
ToshTUBE hahaha same!
ha, "don't try this at home." Because no one would ever ignore that.
"Don't try this at home"
like I'm going to find helium and sulfur hexaflouride in my house
Geometry Dash iIRed_LoxIi Well i have helium at home, and many people do, it's for fillig baloons for parties and stuff....You know that kind of things you have lying around...
Raidzor つ ◕_◕ つ
May I have a baloon animal?
And where am I going to find sulfur hexaflouride?
Geometry Dash iIRed_LoxIi on Yahoo
Joep Bosma I'm gonna find sulfur hexaflouride on yahoo..... Seems accurate
Geometry Dash iIRed_LoxIi of course! Just typ into Bing: yahoo S6F and you will get.... An interactive map of Peru... Again yahoo?!
"filled it with *air*, from my mouth" bro that's carbon dioxide
headlessam We mostly breath Nitrogen. Only like 10-20% of what we breath is actually oxygen. We also only absorb about 10-20% of the oxygen we breath in. All can be looked up.
ooh that photosynthesis... knew i shoulda paid attention in grade school
now i am well educated about respiration.
Oh Lordey, I amma' well-edumacated man 'naw.
Hi headlessam, exhaled air is not 100% carbon dioxide. If so, we’d all pass out reading comics under the covers with our flashlights …
Inhaled air is by volume roughly 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen. The remaining 1% is a mix of argon, carbon dioxide, neon, helium, and hydrogen.
What we exhale is roughly (by volume) 4% more carbon dioxide and 4% less of oxygen than was inhaled and is typically composed of:
• 5.0 - 6.3% water vapor
• 74.4% nitrogen
• 13.6% - 16% oxygen
• 4% - 5.3% carbon dioxide
• 1% argon

My right ear enjoyed this video...
Leroy Fox I thought my headphones were broke
My right ear enjoyed it
Falaxuper same lol
Falaxuper my right earbud is broken.
"how to talk like darth Vader in my right ear"
them: "please do not try this at home"
me:"I WANT SOME!!!!"
Same
I love how he downs the gas straight after they were saying you shouldn't play around with it
absurdrhino hahah true
He's well aware of his lungs limits and its dangers. He was saying that for the benefit of the viewers, or mostly for legal reasons because many viewers lack the sense to stop huffing it when they get lightheaded.
Videos like this makes me think my earbuds are broken.
my right ear enjoyed this
cloaking finn ikr
Both earbuds work for me
cloaking finn oh I thought there was something wrong with my earphones😂
Lmao I always wear just my right earphone so never noticed xD
StarWarsC3P0 I hear out of both earphones.. am I the only one?
love only the right volume lol
same hear...
(hear)
FatboyZgaming tv it's bothering me
dude I used to always take breathes from the helium balloons at birthday parties and until now,I didn't know why I would pass out afterwards.
Now give a can of Sulfur Hexaflouride to Avi Kaplan
This taught me the speed of sound is not a constant like they teach the average person. The speed is entirely dependant on what its passing threw and atmospheric pressures.
I wanna bring helium to school and shout with a squeaker voice 😂
Alex Royce ive done that and me and everyone littlery peed ourselves
Alex Royce imagine a big fat guy like me with a squeeker voice yeah too funny
yeahhh I'd rather not inhale anything with sulfur in it lmao
Please, don't try this at home.
again, please do not try this at home and do not try at home.
DIZAZZO Hes a trained professional which means its a lot safer for him to breath strange chemicals apparently
I kinda wished one of them would've said "I am your father" 😂
A news channel in 60 fps?
That's new
esnevip but only one side has audio lol
esnevip most tv shows are in 60fps... you just need a tv that supports 60 frames per second
Not here they aren't.
My front ear enjoyed this video
vidiexNM My non-existent ear enjoyed this video.
my right ear really enjoyed this.....
Fawaz Baasem I knew someone would say that
Sounds more like Bane than Darth Vader.
funny how they say dont do this at home, but its ok for them to show us.
my right ear really enjoyed this video.
The General I think ur right speaker??
Muhd Zikry. I use earphones
The General I use a phone with dual front facing speaker and yep, just right ear..
I wonder where James Earl Jones gets all his Sulfur Hexafluoride.
Ocelotl naturally made in his lungs
This came out 2 yrs ago, who else watching this in 2k16
My right ear found this very interesting
Ethan Lane
LOL
my right ear enjoyed this alot
Abdullah Pasha Agreed.
Abdullah Pasha bruh I'm glad it was the right eye because my left ear bus is brocken😂
Abdullah Pasha original.
Goomba Person yeah
trained professionals at breathing air?
Loxan xd lol
try at home is what we gonna do
Rip, left headphone.
Its Abie Art yup
Its Abie Art Same
you're a mean one, mr. grinch
Ron Garger your farts smell like chemicals…
Diamonds lol. wow that is funny. thank you, I needed that
Everybody has tried this at home.
What happens if you take a little of both at the same time? Hexafloride sulfate comes out later than the helium?
I'm definitely trying this at home. Hopefully I won't die.
Kriss Nulgath u wont die aslong as u take a 5 minute break after using either gases for about 2-4 minutes
Gamer Strategy Cheers for the advice
not one "luke I am your father."
That's because it wasn't Luke I am your father it's no I am your father
King Solomon you're right but not even that dog
My friend and I took a puff every time they said, "don't try this at home" he's dead now
Imagine Morgan freeman on this
Face
Or James Earl Jones.
Guys use chlorine gas it makes your voice really cool
Juga Productions lol
And that's exactly how she'd sound if she put her lips around my attachment..
Red dot sight, silencer and vertical grip?
These people are too serious for this segment
Matt Tracy the guy wasn't but the girl was
Funny how people who read the news to people have no idea what to say when someone tells them to say something.
If only there was option to turn stereo sound on/off.
....I'm gunna do this at home
So that's how NurdRage gets his voice like that
My right ear really enjoyed this :|
they say dont try this out home
instantly runs and gets a balloon and inhales
Why don't try this at home
Everyone does it
It's not dangerous
Nicobot also gasses that are heavier than air can sometimes become trapped in your lungs, not allowing you to intake enough air to oxygenate your blood and you eventually pass out and die.
Kur Norock people say that but that has never happened to anyone
+Nicobot It happens all the time. There was even a string of incidents of teenagers dying a few years ago because they were huffing those "canned air" things you get for spraying dust out of electronics. That is now why you have to be over 18 or 21 to buy that stuff. Also, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inhalant#Gases
"Furthermore, the inhalation of any gas that is capable of displacing oxygen in the lungs (especially gasses heavier than oxygen) carries the risk of hypoxia as a result of the very mechanism by which breathing is triggered. Since reflexive breathing is prompted by elevated carbon dioxide levels (rather than diminished blood oxygen levels), breathing a concentrated, relatively inert gas (such as computer-duster tetrafluoroethane or nitrous oxide) that removes carbon dioxide from the blood without replacing it with oxygen will produce no outward signs of suffocation even when the brain is experiencing hypoxia. Once full symptoms of hypoxia appear, it may be too late to breathe without assistance, especially if the gas is heavy enough to lodge in the lungs for extended periods. Even completely inert gases, such as argon, can have this effect if oxygen is largely excluded."
“Don’t try this at home” **goes to McDonald’s and gets a helium bloon for free**-So dangerous...
anyone else expecting one of them to say "I am your father"
You can also use free-on. I know from experience. Just find an AC unit on the side of a house, Suck it hard, and have some fun!
***** I would not recommend that. I would not even recommend the sulfur hexafluoride for everyone. It makes for a nice one time TV segment to talk about the speed of sound in air, but other than that don't inhale anything other that regular air.
I am aware how bad it is. But if you are a kid In high school, little bored after school, it is a good time :)
OUT ON THE PORCH freon
Mike McRoberts freeass
The real danger is that some grades of SF6 contain very small amounts of SF4 which is INCREDIBLY toxic.
Video about changing what you hear... *Hears sound out of right earbud only*
TrueSkull Lol same. I was so disappointed for a sec cuz I've had a bunch of defective earbud pairs lately.. Glad to know someone else just screwed up and I don't have to justify spending $30 on a new pair.
SASD GHOST same
IT PUTS THE LOTION ON ITS SKIN!
Idol Punk... you just made my day
That is my goal in life, one person at a time. 😁
They should do whip-its next to feel like they have "the force".
my right ear loved this video
you made me think my new beats are not working
Thug life bunny Tv lol
My right ear enjoyed that.
Mr Target same, but my left ear felt really lonely
Mr Target
Weird, I thought it was just me
I find it funny how the title said "Talk like Darth Vader" and those three said "not to try it at home."😂😂😂
The news anchor guy is like "let me do it already!!!"
if you inhaled the sulfur hexaflouride gas and then topped it off with helium would your voice go from really high pitch to really low pitch all in one breath? that would be a cool trick
This video made my right ear feel special
I think I've gone deaf in my left ear.
I figured out the secret to all magicians leveraging tricks
"Don't try this at home"
She sounded like a friendly demon
I'm inspired I'm gonna try this at home
Helium makes Tony talk higher and gives him a British accent.
four minutes and fourty four seconds... 4:44 *Heavy masked breathing*
My right ear enjoyed this.
Omg... everyone uses Helium but not the sulfur. He can drink the stuff!
Helium is so much fun.
1- I've never watched a star wars related video
2- This video was uploaded more than one year ago
She sounds like "frank" or Francine from that one American dad episode
I thought my headphones broke again.
me too
"you need to limit how much you use this stuff" chugs a half gallon
2:33 is what you came for.
You think you saw everything, but then you see a guy drinking air from a small fishtank and suddenly he talks 3 octaves deeper
Once again proved, ladies ask dum
Questions
My right ear is just loving the audio on this video
SF6? Im no scientist but that doesn't sound very safe to consume
Templar Xaphon It's not toxic, but because of its density, it can actually suffocate you if you don't get it out in time.
She should've breathed the gas and then said, "NO!"
Angel S No, I am your father
