    Wonderful !
    I know it’s not easy to maintain but please wear a respirator with 90 % of these products.
    If using resin, then at all times
    Thanks for all the good instructions

    For my small ponds or swamps i use clear Elmer's glue which is clear in the bottle regular elmers (not school glue)will work but if it is not to deep or it may not dry clear in the middle

      I have used PVA to do water and it’s a great cheap product. I just find in large areas, if I pour too thickly, it will shrink as it dries, pulling away from the edges. Clear PVA is brilliant isn’t it!

    Hi Kathy, another lovely video, it's easy to see why your dioramas are always so stunning, you obviously put your heart into them, and I agree that even with all the products available to us these days, there is still room for "out of the box" thinking in our modelling, I suppose, if you were modelling a small puddle, and you had nothing else available you could always use clear nail polish, what do you think? Incidentally, a couple of years back I'd just completed a Walthers warehouse kit, and decided to weather the living daylights out of it (actually, all I did was clart it with black powder paint and spray it with cheap hair - spray), the walls were fine, but the roof ended up with a glossy sheene, similar to what you see in a sudden downpour, if I tried to do it deliberately, it wouldn't have worked, such is life, anyway sorry for filling up your comment section with my waffle, as always, stay safe all the best from Scotland, Stephen.

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  3 года назад

      Hi Stephen. Thanks a lot! I am sure nail varnish would work but it dies shrink slightly as it dries so you would need to keep an even layer to avoid a dip in the middle.

    Love working with resin, done a couple of dioramas and a 7ft river on my layout recently, I love how all the details you add to the bed of any water feature doesn't pop until that resin goes in.
    Im still to this day gobsmacked that I poured nearly 5 kilos of resin in one hit for my River Exe scene and none of it ended up on the floor lol. I don't think I've even been so nervous!

    Hi Kathy,
    For those of us "across the pond" have you any knowledge of an Everbuild Clear Fix alternative? $45 US plus shipping seems a bit excessive. Thank you for all of the wonderful information that you share!

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  2 года назад

      Thanks David. It’s a hybrid polymer so I guess there will be an alternative available using that search term.

    Brilliant work Kathy. I think I told you before, but I want to build a diorama for a model AT-AT I put together. I’m going to have snow and a few rocks on the ground, but I’m thinking of a rock wall or glacier behind the model. Any tips on making realistic ice? Thanks you and MTFBWY lol

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  2 года назад +1

      Hi Jay. I remember the project. Ice can be done in a few ways from just paint and a gloss coat and a light dusting of snow all the way through to resin which you smash up to give broken ice. For a glacier, it’s almost opaque so it’s mostly about the paint job method.

      @@KathyMillatt thank you Kathy! When I have time this evening, I’ll sit through a couple of hours of your videos and see what I can learn. I don’t want to muck this up. It’s taken too much money and time to get to the display stage lol.

      @@StarWarsJay The good thing about scenery is it is quite forgiving and you can always add another layer if it doesn't come out quite right. Good luck!

  • @SmR8008

    I've been reluctant to add water in scenery as I don't know how to avoid the surface tension where the water meets other scenery

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  3 года назад +2

      I do resin after the earth layer and before the vegetation layer so I can apply a little more earth to cover the creep at the edges.

    • @SmR8008
      @SmR8008 3 года назад

      @@KathyMillatt Yes that would work really nicely for natural water scenes 😊. I'm looking at a more industrial setting for a canal and thought maybe acrylic sheet, with water effects using mod podge, but the resin would look so much better.

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  3 года назад +1

      There’s not a lot of depth visible on a canal due to the churned up sediment so a flat sheet painted with a thin skim of a gloss (could be resin) would work well.
