I've been dehydrating several different meal leftovers. Soup, chili, spaghetti sauce, meats and veggies since getting all these good ideas from your channel. Now I have additional food preps to go along with my store cans, home canning and purchased freeze dried foods.
I am doing little by little. I haven't gone as far as meals, but I have stored up some dehydrated chicken, veggies, and herbs as well as made some infusions and ointments and basic cold and flu medicine. Wow, after I say this i realize that's a LOT. Hey, I'm doing pretty good. 😊
My fried rice dehydrates well.
Even though I am not into dehydration, the fact that I always learn something new is a constant surprise how much you know. They are simple things but things that are not learned because of the changing lifestyles encouraging dependence 🎉. So much of what you do is what my grandmother taught my mother and I remember. All this stuff is not new per se just forgotten. We used to get catnip toys for our cats. To see them play with them was hilarious. Sleepy one second extraordinarily frisky the next. It was a treat for them! 😅
I like the idea of you guys doing a video of the changes since you began the channel.
Regarding catnip vs catmint... thank you for sharing how it tastes and worked for you. That helped me make a decision I was waffling on. I've used catnip for a long time and always added other herbs to make it taste better. I am in the process of deciding which herbs to grow here at my new place and love how pretty catmint is. Btw, I now live in a mfg home park and the owner is happy to let residents garden which is a real blessing. So I plan to grow what I use to save money and also wanted things that are pretty like catmint. Because we have feral cats here I'll need to grow it in hanging baskets up away from the kitties. I am so excited to be able to garden again after 3 years without a garden. Thx again
That is great and certainly a blessing. Not all places allow that with their strict rules. There are a few parks here and I think all of them allow gardening as I see some of the places looking really nice. One place even has a section for a community garden and people grow all kinds of veggies in it. I think it is so great they do that.
I love the catnip tea from Azure and I also blend it with valarian and or lemon balm.
Thank you for the idea for dehydrating dinners. A couple of years ago I made home made ketchup. After sending the tomato-mixture thru the strainer, I dehydrated the solids that remained. It smells just like ketchup. Whenever I am out, I'll have ketchup as a backup. However, now that I think about it, it might go really well with a spoonful mixed into meatloaf maybe even as a gravy thickener for salisbury steak.
Thanks Heidi for sharing, Cheers❤️
My hair is very fine, board straight, and tends to be oily, so I have to be careful what shampoos I use. Some make it look oilier after a shampoo than before I washed it.
Again, Patrick's vacuum canister is something I can't live without. I absolutely love it!
Shalom Heidi and thanks!
Good This~N~That video, thanks for sharing, YAH bless !
Great this in that! Thanks for the updates!
Thank you!
Thank you Heidi. 😊
Blessings! 💜
Hi Heidi 👋🏻
Thanks Heidi!!
Good information, Heidi!
Thanks for sharing! ❤
Thank you and God Bless.
All the best for 2025.
We just bought a camper. I am going to try some of these dehydrated meals. Thanks for posting this.
I started using Kirk's bar soap years ago and found it works fine as shampoo. No need for two bars of soap.
😊❤😊
Can't wait for the meal video. I'll be waiting for it.😊
Great this and that. Thank you.
So appreciate your videos! ❤ Just a reminder for viewers: I’m hoping everyone is thinking about storing water to rehydrate the things they’re dehydrating (or use liquid from canned items). We’re on a well - power goes out, we have no water. 😳
❤
🥰
Ice and snow in Western Kentucky. I was as ready as anyone could be.
I am interested in looking up how to dehydrate meals. That seems like a good alternative to freezing them.
Thank you Heidi. Just made a huge pot of ham and beans, plan to dehydrate some for a "rainy" day, pun intended, lol.
😄
Thank you ! And, I would highly recommend , if you are able , watching the "Live" shows . They are really fun and educational. Last Sunday , Patrick cracked me up when he was telling how you all met. He said " a charity case " and as the "details " kept growing
he kept getting closer to getting the frying pan to the back of the head 😂 It was really fun.
😊😂
Very interesting to know you can do a whole or close to a whole meal by dehydrating it for later. Never have to worry about freezer burn or if you lose power it going bad. Blessings!
Thanks a bunch!!😊 such a great idea! Great to be able to use the dehydrated marinara sauce to make a quick pizza sauce or instead of reducing the sauce also reconstituting in beef broth for a quicker bolognese.😊
I've made vinegar with herb stems and weeds. That turned out better and clearer than other vinegars I've tried. I'm going to add rose petals next time. Citrus ended up mushy both times I tried. I'm leaving them in too long or something.
Citrus peels always turn mushy as to apples and pears. I strain these types through fine woven cotton cloth or cheese cloth when I make them
I'd recommend putting a bit of locktite on those nuts on the lever of the brake bleeder. I have 2 bleeders and I've had to replace the nuts on both. I still love that shirt!
By the way, thank you for the continued letters even though we are terrible at writing back, we still very much appreciate them!

I made deer tallow soap this year for the first time, just in case I needed to know how. I used (against every video I've ever seen.) an equal trade out ounce per ounce with my lard. It worked great.
Nice!
Impressive, if true, but where would, randomly need deer tallow
🙏💗
I just ordered some products from Augason Farms, butter, tomato powder, mash potatoes potato cream soup, and pancake mix
Hi Heidi. I have some jars of dehydrated soup mixes ( veges only) that i put together. I like to take that for instant meals. If I have jerky I'll add it to it.
I just subscribed to the other channel ❤❤
Thank you!
I just did a search for your second channel and it wasn't listed in the search. I had to follow your link.
It is still a fairly small channel so Rain Country 2 may not show at the top.
Though I did just now did my own search and it showed for me just under Rain Country so both my channels were at the top of the search
🌸🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🌸
😀
I love your videos. Thank you so much. I am wondering if you have dehydrated any fermented veggies before?
I have not but i have fermented dehydrated veggies before: ruclips.net/video/0ubAhswk5Xc/видео.html
Good video on bringing to mind things I've wanted to say.
I had no BP for banana bread. The internet said add soda to Molasses and bam!
I use soda in my hair, followed by vinegar. Can I skip the soda and just do a vinegar wash?🤔
Thanks for these very helpful videos. I've become an avid dehydrator because of your videos and encouragement
Thank you. ❤
It depends on how oily your hair is. Years ago when I went shampoo free I started with the baking soda wash and vinegar rinse but found the soda was too harsh for my very dry hair so I just quit using it and the vinegar has been my number one thing to wash with since
@RainCountryHomestead I did watch your video after I asked the question. Im sorry.
I've never heard that I can just do a vinegar wash. I will definitely try that. I added lemon balm to pineapple, and I'll add rosemary to pineapple. Maybe those will be good combinations.
Anyone know the link to Heidi's video about the silicone tray liners and other options?

Hi Heidi! I have a question I’ve been wondering for awhile. I know you got into this lifestyle for health reasons, as did I. Could you share what you know about nutritional loss from canning/dehydrating? How much do we lose? Obviously I know fresh is best but I figured this was something you had researched thoroughly. Thanks! Love your videos!
Please see this video that recently published on my second channel where I cover that: ruclips.net/video/VIClw9-rRiY/видео.html
When you dehydrate the leftovers how long is it stable with meat or oil versus things with no fats. Thanks!
As long as they are fully dried and fully cooled when vacuum sealing and they stay sealed, they should last for years if not indefinitely. I have had jerky and other dried meats put up for years, some containing fats, without issue
@RainCountryHomestead thank you so much! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
So of course I made a huge batch of baking powder before the holiday season and have a lot left. Should I freeze it to maintain it's leavening agent?
It will likely be fine for awhile but then again, it may not be a bad idea to freeze at least some of it
To rehydrate, could you weigh prior to dehydrating, then add the weight in water back in? Wondering if that would work
It should
I’ll be curious to see how much broth you put in with your soup? I’ve not had good luck with bone broth. It sticks and I think I loose some.
You mean stick to the trays? I use a flat stainless steel spatula to scrape the broth off and it has worked great for me. The amount added for soups is really up to the user. It can be a Tablespoon per cup or you can add more or you can add less
I heard that cream of tartar can go bad. Don't know how true it is.
Just did a Google....if stored properly, that Heidi mentioned, it doesn't really spoil, just may not be as potent.
HEIDI- I wonder if you tried weighing the portions before dehydrating, then you would know the % of water to ad???(penny thoughts)🧐
No but it is a good idea that was mentioned by at least one other so I will consider it next time
Thanks Heidi 😊 ❤❤
Thank you!!
