“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so...”. Thank you for sharing this thought-provoking quote from Shakespeare’s Hamlet with us. Hamlet said this when he was debating with his friends about whether Denmark is a prison. A recent high box office movie brings up a similar notion: everyone creates a prison for themselves, and we need to set ourselves free. From my perspective, grudge is the most high-security prison that is hard to escape from. Apart from grudge, hatred and prejudice, a reserved personality, and a narrow-minded character are some other intangible forms of prison. My new year resolution is to make peace with myself, and to leave negative thoughts behind.
I have never been a big fan of Shakespeare, nor do I enjoy his plays. However, after reading this quote, I concede that Shakespeare lives up to his name as a G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time). Speaking of this quote from Hamlet, I have written a parody of Hamlet's "to be or not to be" and would like to share it with you and my mateys. To pay attention or to daydream ---That’s the question Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer The stress and agony of drowsiness Or to fight against all those stupid classroom rules And, by opposing, end them? To set free our mind, to daydream And by a daydream to say we end The boredom and the bullshit of lessons ‘This a dream all students to be wished! To set free our mind, to daydream To daydream, perchance to gain victory in the mind ---- Ah! But there’s the problem, For in that victory what consequences may come When the teacher notices the subtle smile on our face Must wake us up There’s the shame That makes a life-long regret For who would bear the scorns and rumours of peers The stock of laughing, the loss of reputation The deduction of marks, the call for detention The teacher’s warning, the parents’ rebuke The droop of head, the loss of face Who would choose to grunt and groan through a despised life Unless dignity worth not a cent Thus, fear for authority and peer pressure make us the Most attentive students of all Pay attention and stay focused all along after all Hope you'd enjoy it.

To pay attention or to daydream ---That’s the question
Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The stress and agony of drowsiness
Or to fight against all those stupid classroom rules
And, by opposing, end them?
To set free our mind, to daydream
And by a daydream to say we end
The boredom and the bullshit of lessons

To set free our mind, to daydream
To daydream, perchance to gain victory in the mind ----
Ah! But there’s the problem,
For in that victory what consequences may come
When the teacher notices the subtle smile on our face
Must wake us up
There’s the shame
That makes a life-long regret
For who would bear the scorns and rumours of peers
The stock of laughing, the loss of reputation
The deduction of marks, the call for detention
The teacher’s warning, the parents’ rebuke
The droop of head, the loss of face
Who would choose to grunt and groan through a despised life
Unless dignity worth not a cent
Thus, fear for authority and peer pressure make us the
Most attentive students of all
Pay attention and stay focused all along after all
Hope you'd enjoy it.
That's really impressive! I've never been into Shakespeare enough to even think of doing something like that. Well done 👍👍👍
