Watch story…I had a tv delivered by FedEx one time. I live on a busy road. Came home, saw it wasn’t on the porch…uh oh! Drive around back & the very astute driver put in the back, nestled in with my recycling so it looked like box was part of the recycling. I was tickled pink! I called FedEx & the 1st dude couldn’t get out of his complaint script 🤦🏼‍♀️ asked for a supervisor, took another 5 minutes & 3 times explaining that I wanted to COMPLIMENT the driver on smart thinking…..

These stories remind me of _I Was a Male War Bride._ In this movie, Congress has passed a law allowing returning veterans, WW2, to circumvent immigration quotas and bring their new wives home. However, Congress and the bureaucrats creating the forms, were so one-sided they left out allowances for the WACs and WAVEs (women serving in the army and navy).
Whoever built and runs these call centers assume that the _only_ thing people are calling about is to make complaints. What else could they be calling for? There is another side to the coin!

You are lucky. Several times FedEx would not walk down the hall to deliver to the actual address. This is in a converted factory building, subdivided for businesses. For security, and convenience, we would have things delivered to a relative's business that was at the end of a long corridor. UPS always delivered through the loading dock (though they were more frequent and the business had a shipper account). FedEx was always hit-or-miss. Sometimes they would deliver to the front, un-monitored door (at the entrance to the building, not the actual business). This was at a time before "porch pirate" became a thing.

I once ordered a M-14 airsoft rifle. When it arrived, the trigger guard had snapped clean off and the magazine was full of some kind of black sand, The rifle worked fine otherwise and I managed to clean out the sand. I called the store I ordered from to try to find out what was up with the sand. They said they would send me a new one. I asked if they wanted me to send the rifle back. They said I could keep it. Ended up giving it to a cousin and he glued on a new trigger guard. Never did find out what was the deal with the sand.

The problem with call centres is that there are scripts to follow. If the operator does not follow the script, there are consequences, the severity dependant upon the organisation represented. The problem with the hiring policies tends to be that they hire people who do not think critically and so they will follow the script blindly. Now, if the caller's issue does not match the scripts...they will follow the script they think most closely matches the issue being described.
I was not very successful in call centres after leaving the Army because I thought for myself and spent time dealing with the actual issues customers presented instead of trying to hammer them all into the mould my various scripts described. 99% of my customers were very happy (there is always 1%) and my supervisors/managers were usually running about 40% satisfaction because I "broke the rules".

Based on my experience dealing with doctor's office and insurance, there is a serious inability to listen when 4 months after the appointment you have to beg the doctor's office to simply send it to insurance because they apparently never got it (likely because it was NEVER sent to begin with).

My mother had a similar experience to story 2. Our home phone service was not working so my mother used her cell phone to call Bell Aliant. EVERY single agent she spoke to all asked how we could be calling them if our phone service was not working, despite being told at the start of the call that my mother was calling from her cell phone. Then my mother spoke to a supervisor who also didn't listen and repeated the same things the agents did. It took my mother 12 calls to finally reach the regional manager who finally understood that despite our landline service being out our cell phone that was through a different company was still working and that the landline service at our address was not working.
Bell Aliant needs to look at the IQ levels of the people they hire and raise it above the monkey pushing a button level.

I'm fortunate to have an ISP (who in my country acts as part of the telephone service since it's all VOIP) who hires people who actually listen and think and have at least a basic level of trouble-shooting expertise which goes beyond "just follow the script." They do have things they're supposed to say under certain circumstances and I'm sure I was a participant in an instance of semi-malicious/more humorous compliance. I said that they'd answered the phone faster than I was expecting and the reply was "I'm sorry we couldn't meet your expectations today." 🤣 I had trouble talking due to laughter for a few minutes after that I forget what the issue I called about was, but it was resolved to my satisfaction. Which is usual for this particular ISP.

The watch story, that’s my exact problem with these “customer service reps.” They don’t listen to what’s bein said to them. At least you got nice ones. I always get the ones that think they can cut you off, talk over you, get smart and nasty and think it’s their way and that’s it. I don’t deal nicely with that at all. You’re the front face of the company and when you do that to the people that make sure you have a job, you make yourself AND the company look stupid and bad.

Had an item automatically returned to the sender. FedEx attempted to deliver it to the high school, on the other side of town! Not recognizing my name, they refused delivery. Called they vendor and they resent the item. Turns out the label had on it, for some unknown reason, the initials of the school, separated out from the addresses and other information blocks (barcodes, etc.), and the original driver simply attempted delivery there, without reading the actual delivery address!

probably why when he came home to reclaim his land, the navy told him to stay home. my dad had a family when WWII started and was never drafted until the end of the war in Europe. at the station near his home, an officier heard his name and told him that his only brother was going to be sent to the Pacific and he can go home because of the Sullivan brother who all died at the same time

Never mind the store either claim on insurance or file for a tax loss. They win anyway, so do you. Years ago I saw a delivery man run up to my house, ring the bell and run away. He had dropped off a vacuum cleaner, I had not ordered anything, the address of the person was miles away, like hundreds of miles away. I phoned the delivery company, was given the “we delivered it to your house, you should have got it” Phoned the catalogue company, runaround from them, so I kept it.

Penpal story: depemding on how ling the neighbour takes to write back, I'd send a note saying that I will be back in ½ an hour and bf's car has to move... then return in ⅓ hour and send another passive note saying that I came home early and will call a tow if he has issues....

The "tree farm" story tells me that some people should never be elected or appointed to any office. That holds true today. People who use their held office for illegitimate reasons should have severe and irrecoverable restrictions of their ability to work in, on, or around government.

The watch story reminds me of when the guy at Amazon didn't listen, and instead of refunding my expedited order charges (an "Order within the next X time and get it on release day thing) sent a second XBOX 360. If I hadn't been worried about them charging me again I would have let it go. Instead I called and they rerouted it and did the charge refund.

I'm in a somewhat similar situation to the ppster with the watch. I subscribed to an online contact lens service. Due to some medical issues, my credit card was revoked. Ok. So contact lens company doesn't have a functional credit card, next month's bill won't be paid, they'll cancel my account, right? Nope. That was 3 years ago and they're still sending me contacts! I tried to to contact them, but, get this, they don't have an account on file for me! How they're still sending me contacts, I don't know, but they're still sending me contacts that they aren't getting paid for! I'd feel guilty about it, but I tried to let them know and they didn't have any info on me!
