      That makes sense, and I can see why you would think that. But if it's the tour I'm thinking of in '83 or '84, that was their wardrobe for the whole run. I saw them a couple times that year. Once in Terre Haute and then maybe in St. Louis, can't recall for sure. I don't know if they were tuxedoes, per se - but the band definitely wore dark suits and white shirts. I took it as a nod to early rock and soul artists.

      Point taken - some of it is what you expect out of live music performance. If it is elite musicianship - then a band like Rush is going to be the experience you remember as being "best" ( the fact they played 3 hour shows with no opener helps) - or Yes, ELP, etc. Let's face it Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen and Iron Maiden - as examples - are going for a much different audience impact than JCM or Springsteen. In the case of Motorhead......your hearing would remember the show for days even if your mind happened to forget - because they were the loudest band on the planet. Ultimately to really enjoy a show - starting out as a fan of the songs is the most reliable way to have a good experience live. Doesn't always work out - Aerosmith in the drunk days before rehab.....worst show I have seen from any major band. They flat sucked ass. Saw them after rehab - like a completely different band - very enjoyable.

    Glad he thinks so. I don't dislike him or his music, but c'mon. I've seen Bruce dozens of times and he's always amazing. I saw John once in Boulder in 1982 opening for The Who and he was booed off the stage. Yes, it was early in his career. He blames equipment problems, but he had the opportunity to sound check. He didn't handle it well, told the crowd to F off. His perception of the situation was probably worse than reality. A third of the crowd was actually booing, and another third were yelling to bring on The Who. From the stage it may have all sounded the same. I'm sure he matured and put on a great show as his career evolved, but there are a ton of phenomenal musicians that may like to weigh in on this claim.

    • @dnews9519

      Being booed off the stage opening for The Who was a tradition and an honor for most musicians. Lynyrd Skynyrd was the only band that ever opened for The Who that wasn't booed off the stage. In fact they were so liked that The Who took them as an opening act for a world tour.

If anyone has never seen him live and wants to you better do it soon bc he’s going to lose his ability to tour & sing soon now that he’s in his 70s. Lung disease from smoking is of course gradual but once it comes on it hits fast. One cold or bad illness can do major permanent damage to their lungs (what happens when you have copd or emphysema). Every time you get sick no matter how small it always travels down into your lungs and you gotta take steroids & all kinds of crap.

    One of the worst shows you can ever experience is John doing a private Corporate gig in Vegas, which he did for our Company---oh how special we all thought we were, until that guy took the stage, took a break every second song to sit at the side of the stage and smoke cigarettes, than come back out and do his hits like they were a 78rpm record---phoning them all in quickly--then exited the stage, jumped back on his private jet and back to Indiana he goes with a fat check in his pocket. Seen him at Farm Aid too---still doesnt get into it...I think he wants ua all to now embrace his recently discovered, backwoods, scratchy, fiddle and jug kinda hillbilly music, which he likes, but we dont...and aint no money in those songs, no corporate gigs for sure. Dont like either his two sons were raised as bullies and beat up an innocent helpless guy they mistook for someone who dissed one of the other brothers---both should have been imprisoned but the Mellencamp name in Bloomington will get you out of anything---dont buy his peace and love shtick---Even Stephen King the author pulled out of a Play they were working on when his sons bullied that poor defenseless boy. I suspect he's Napoleonic--short and out to prove himself all the time...wish he'd get back into it.

    I have no doubt John has heard the opinion I'm about to convey a thousand times before from people who care about him: "Quit smoking." You do not want to end up like another like-named singer-songwriter, John Prine. Even if you don't develop cancer, the damage to your heart, lungs, circulation system, even your brain, can shorten your life. Those nails will eventually kill you.

    • @TreesOnTheBeach
      @TreesOnTheBeach Год назад

    • @fenwayify
      @fenwayify Год назад

      @@TreesOnTheBeach I'm sure he has his own personal feelings about the matter, rationalizing avoiding taking better care of himself; we all do. As a former smoker, I would also remind him that everything he's around reeks; his clothes, his car, his bed, his furniture, his hair and his breath. He may have addressed the issue years ago (I think I've heard his response to it in interviews more than once), but it's really such a foul habit. There are better methods for getting those deep inhalations to cope with stress, though you have to make an effort to find your own strategy. It's never too late for growth. Maybe one day, before he loses his jaw, his lungs, his heart or ends up with a stoma, he'll try facing down the beast another time...
