Thanks for the no nonsense and easy to understand demo. This looks like a good choice for a hobbyist like myself. I’m definitely considering this item because of your video and presentation. Much appreciated. Thanks.
Joe, that ( -the DP-006 ) was one of the best product reviews I've seen. Very easy to understand and relaxed. All the vital info was explained expertly. Great job. Tascam should be paying you because you made me a believer! "Instrument Petting Zoo". Love that!
Not one basic easy to follow tutorial like this for this product ! You my friend made me a professional in using this thanks Dude I really appreciate it
Really appreciate the clarity of the review and the quality of the demo sample at the end is excellent - because of a house move my home studio gear is currently in different parts of the country and of course I keep finding myself coming up with potential ideas on the acoustic just when it's most awkward to record anything so this is a perfect fit - and it's kind of like getting back to my roots a bit because I first started out recording my own stuff back in the 1980s with a Tascam Porta One (I still have the cassettes somewhere).
👍GREAT PRESENTATION. without all the extra bs...👍SIMPLE. TO THE POINT. GIVES THE BUYER A SIMPLE EXAMPLE OF WHAT WE CAN DO with it. And more. GREAT JOB. SUBSCRIBED.👍
Nice present for thisTascam. I was worried when I saw your headphones, since another tube has a guy who did an entire session with his headphones in... but he did say " it sounds pretty good " after wasting everyone's time with 8 minutes of total silence. edit 14:22 minutes.... I just went there again by accident! omg
I'm worried about the display's lack of much backlighting, but I'll probably get it anyway ! Very good quick demonstration and thanks for playing a recognizable song instead of wanking on metal.
I bought the gear after watching this review. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE. Keep researching the gear. It's good, good build quality and sound, but might not be what your thinking it is. It's not really user friendly, naming and exporting tracks and songs to PC/Mac it's annoying and time consuming, and cannot be used in low light environments due to lack of backlighting. This item is meant to be used outdoors during the day by a (very patient) adult. NOT FOR KIDS.
Important correction, the unit doesn't not support microphones that require phantom power. Actually it doesn't even have a balanced microphone connector, just a TS 1/4 plug. For that you'd have to go with the bigger brother, the DP008ex
Thank you for the absolutely first rate review! Based on your demo, I want to go out and buy one tomorrow. I would have loved to hear some bass and vocals to round it out. I think that you underrate yourself as a musician. On that recording, you play better than a few pros that I’ve played with. Do you know if you can export the tracks that one can record on the 006 to Pro Tools? Thanks again.
Just bought one second hand. My daughter asked me if I would record some of the songs she grew up with. And yes, I'm getting older, so I'd better get it done while I can.
I recently, purchased a Tascam unit, a DP 03 SD, and What I’m trying to do, is record everything into the Tascam unit, via a device, interface, or especial splitting pedal that can be able to send my amplifier’s sound already processed by my pedal board’s effects. The problem that I am running with is that my amplifier, ‘’does not have a line out’’; like a headphones AUX. With an AUX, I can have an audio cable going from the amp’s AUX, into the input of the Tascam unit, but what is killing me is that my amp, ‘’doesn’t have an AUX’’. Also, I wanna mention that my amp, has an effects loops on the back; “SEND and RECEIVE”, I don’t know if this could be helpful as well for what I’m trying to do? When it comes to recording, I can still record my guitar playing using my pedal board effects, all I have to do, is just connect my guitar to the beginning of my pedal board chain, and have the output of my pedal board chain, going straight to the Tascam’s input, but if I do that, my recording will be missing the richness of my tube amp; It’ll be just the signal of my guitar playing processed by my pedal board’s effects, and ‘’that’s it.’’ I know that what I’m trying to do, it can be done, since there are plenty of RUclips videos of musicians recording their entire rigs; Effects Pedals, amps, etc., etc.…, using the Tascam DP-03SD Portable Studio, and they were able to accomplish that by using especial deceives, interfaces, or splitting pedals. The problem is that I have not find a single video, explaining how they were able to connect everything; amp plus effects pedal board, into the recording unit, or tutorials advertising and explaining what kind of devices are needed in order to accomplish what I am trying to do, and that many musicians out there, already accomplished. Will appreciate your help with this matter.
Hi Joe , thanks for the review ! I am planning to use my Tascam to get a backing track play from my laptop and take it as input to one of the tracks, and then play my electric guitar on the other, then mix and master them. Is it possible to take input from my laptop and have it playback on a track while I jam with my guitar on a second track ?
Hi Joe, quick question, it's been four years now since you made this video. How is the Tascam DP-006 holding up? No issues? Thank You advance for your time.
Thanks for the tutorial. I just my DP-006 and I'm trying to load a backing track which I do successfully import but then I cannot locate it to bring it up to record extra tracks with it. the manual is not very helpful with this. Help?
I need something that is battery operated that I can transfer my original backing tracks on, that I have stored on the sd card in my Digitech Jamman Looper. I play alone and use the looper to play my backing, but I now I am putting together total battery powered system, to play where no electricity is. The looper that plays my backing is not battery powered, so I thinking I could transfer them on to this recorder for playback. Would this work for that? Does it have a output to go to 1/4” or just 1/8”? And can you tweak eq at all? Thank you!
Hello Joe ! I bought this recorder and i have a question about the master track. I've put a wav format loop into the system wich is a stereo track. The wav is running on track 1 and 2. I sang a lead vocal on track 3 and another one on track 4. It has perfectly recorded it. After this i captured the recorded track ( IN - OUT ) , and i tried to make a master track about it under the master rec. function but i can't manage it and i dont know why. I can't start the record button, its not working under this setting for me. The recorder is playing the previously captured - recorded track but the record button is off, i can not push it on .Could you explain to me what the problem is ? Thank You, Karoly
I haven't had that problem, but I understand that this happens when you record a track without having assigned a Master Track - check out page 92 in the Manual (found here: www.tascam.eu/en/docs/DP-006_Manual.pdf) to see if this will fix the problem.
Yea, that's all well and good but for someone like myself it would have been more helpful if you would've shown a screen shot of the buttons you were pushing to accomplish those functions. I've got one of these and the instruction manual is 104 pages of techno-speak that leaves me at sea. I've looked for more detailed tutorials for this unit and have yet to find one that speaks to my level of ineptitude.
@@JoeBradyPhotography The internal mics on my brand new DP-006 are not isolated from the casing. If you touch the casing or clothing brushes against it whilst recording via the internal mics, the output includes loud Rustling noises that ruin the recording. This is unforgiveable in my view.
Don't want to rain on anyone's party ..... I'll start by saying I have one, love the sound quality, but unfortunately this model does NOT have phantom power. Not a problem using the built in mics but I found a limitation on what I could use off of the 1/4 jacks. The next step up, the DP-008EX does have phantom power.
I recommend if you have sufficient track count with the DP006, you would be better served to use the cost difference between the 006 and 008 toward a device to overcome the 1/4 jack limitation and also to greatly enhance the sound source input quality. You have many options. You can use a direct box that will supply both an XLR low impedance jack and also Phantom power to a 1/4 phono output to connect to the 006. You can use a mixer to accomplish the same and to enhance the input with effects from the mixer as well. Routing the output of the 006 to a mixer will give you access to all the effects if you already have recorded tracks without effects. You can connect through a quality external tube preamp or channel strip such as the Presonus TubePre V2 or the Presonus Studio Channel - Channel Strip. Lot's of options to overcome limitations and enhance the sound quality.
Can anyone help me? I just bought this unit and i'm terrible at recording. I was trying to get the DVD because the printed instructions have me a little confused. I'm trying to record myself singing and playing based on the info on page 19 and then on pg 20 where it shows how to listen to it. apparently it didn't capture the recording i guess. I'm thinking i maybe didn't have the input source correct?
The recorder transfer to a computer as a WAV file. You would have to record the music on another device or export the file from your computer to convert to an MP3. WAV files have no compression - better for editing until your final mixdown. I too would like to see an MP3 export, but since memory cards are so cheap these days, I can live with WAV files!
i would do track by track to wav. no mixing inside the unit ,eat up space , but...... enough to store 1/2/3 songs .I'd be i think more app'd to use this when out and about and think of something and need to "jot it down" to not forget.lol. but drop wavs into protools/ cakewalk or somethin and do all editing in there personally. in recording something "out and about", id be by myself, wouldn't see doing more then 4 or so track sat a time anyway. maybe 1 guitar and 1 vocal per track at once , everything else be 1 at a time . Bass, lead guitar..... etc etc......and in laying guitars etc , just keeping 1 open track to record, bounce single into computer for additions probably be sitting with computer at that time.... not out "writtin" or "playing a tune.:PDrums/ bongo/percussion most likely need a premixing and someway to creat more separation and final control , unless previously done and mixed to import into the unit for "playin along". depending on tempo and if it fall out due to the song structures/ timing.(i do a fair amount of tempo/ off time things.... gonna pick one up tomorrow on the cheap. as reviews showing the tascam internal mics giving some of the best recording of acoustic properties:P
I'm just getting back in the swing after the holidays - I'll be exploring this more in the next few weeks - let me check into it and I'll get back to you!
Good video! You really need that stand, if you're going to use its internal mics. But Tascam makes too many internal compromises for my taste. And no XLR is just painful. I feel I'm better off with an Android DAW on my Samsung Note, plugging a RODE - NT-USB into it (that one has a superb sound, good enough for pristine vocal recordings. I think its audio quality trumps any of the stereo mic solutions. I don't want one device that's a musical sketch pad only and a second one that's a field recorder, where I have free choice of microphones. IIRC, Zoom has something like that, and their sound quality and S/N issues have been resolved over the years, I think. The DP-006 is cute as buttons though, I give it that ^^
Got one. What ever happened to just turn on machine, select a track (1) adjust volume, press record. - DONE!! Rewind, playback, select track (2) and record while listening to track 1.-- DONE! 100 PLUS PAGE MANUAL Of NOT THE CLEAREST INSTRUCTIONS, ENDED UP CALLING THE COMPANY FOR HELP. AND 15 PLUS MINUTES TO SET UP FOR ONE TRACK!??? AND THAT'S PROGRESS??? RIDICULOUS!!!I'm old school. I didnt realize this thing was going to be a MAJOR project when I ordered it!! Didnt realize recording got SOO complicated over the years!! I just wanted a SIMPLE, EASY, RIGHT TO THE POINT RECORDER. SO disappointed. I absolutely hate it!! And there is no one to take you step by step to do the initial set up. Gotta dump this thing and keep looking🤬🤬🤬🤬
I completely agree. How this device ever won 4.5 review stars on Amazon only the Lord knows. An awful manual, No useful RUclips help, no back-lighting for the hard to read display. Over sensitive 'rustling' internal mics. I could go on. This device is vastly over-rated, mainly, I think, by Gee-Whiz, specification gazers who have never used the item.
Can someone help me? i have a 16 Gb SD card. i recorded about 20 songs that take up about 200mb each. That should be 4 GB but it says the Card is full.
Hi! I have one doubt: is it possible to record two diferent things separately in the stereo tracks or just record 4 diferent things in the whole process? Thanks a lot for helping.
The search continues... Any recommendations guys? I'm looking for a good set up: - $500- $800 AUD. The quality here sounds okay but not good enough for me. Would a sm-57 mic plugged into an audio interface into a computer give better sound? I'm looking for a raw live recording acoustic guitar and vocals, ideally recorded at the same time, with minimal mixing / mastering.
am no expert , but since no one answered i'll try to help, if you don't like the sound of the DP-006 its because he is using the built in mics they are good but not top end as you noticed , and the DP-006 max quality is (44.1khz/16bit) that's CD quality which is good but there is better, like 96Hz/24-bit , am not sure about the audio interface of your PC or if they compare to stand alone ones, but your mic has XLR output will it fit? and the DP-006 doesn't have XLR , i have a RODE NTG4+ condenser mic, when my friends hear my guitar recording they don't believe i recorded it at home its like a professional studio recording not sure if you can use condenser mics for live, though it's cardiod due to their sensitivity, yours is dynamic less sensitive better for live , by the way i use the Tascam DR-70d because am into video too , my advice get the Tascam DR-40, its 4 track, battery operated, small and 96Hz/24-bit, it has 2 XLR inputs you can use 2 mics for you bands live recording and point the built in mics at the crowd to capture sterio surrounding sound ,, unless you bought your set up already , cheers

Thankyou for the demo Joe, I am going to purchase one of theses, I am a song writer without a platform, should have bought this 30 years ago
Did you get one? Curious how it turned out, thanks.
Well done. Just bought one, can hardly wait to get it!
Thank you for actually using the Tascam DP-006 in your overview.

Thankyou for your overview. Spotted one second hand boxed and all and just had to have it. Looking
forward to noodling around on it . Great. Thanks !

Fantastic review and demo, but I also couldn't stop imagining Tim Heidecker doing it
Nice, clean recording with good volume

Thank you...Just ordered one :)
How'd it turn out? Thanks.
Nice video. I'm a big fan of Tascam recorders. I Enjoyed your presentation.
Thanks so much!
Tascam kicks ass.

Have you done a review on the 008 ?
Really interesting! thanks man
Great Demo. Do you have any problem getting enough volume out of the headphone jack?
brilliant review
Hi Joe. Please, clear my doubt? This multitrack can record a guitar at the same time that record thru the built-in microphones? Thak you very much!!
yes
Hi Joe, did you notice the Monster by any chance? While you were in Scotland.
Never showed up - You just can’t count on monsters being dependable!
I was having a problem with the play-back on mine. It wouldn't play-back on my headphones. Can u please help me??
can i connect it to a computer to mix the tracks?
Could you do a tutorial on producing a vocal track with a guitar track.

What model Washburn is your steel string sounds great.
awesome review well explained
thanks for the video!
Can you record analog synths into this thing? I just want to record my synth by its self… I am assuming it can 🤷🏻♂️🙏
Can you play a prerecorded Track while recording another to get the timing right?
Thanks!
thankyou joe mate
Hello Joe !
I bought this recorder and i have a question about the master track.
I've put a wav format loop into the system wich is a stereo track. The wav is running on track 1 and 2. I sang a lead vocal on track 3 and another one on track 4.
It has perfectly recorded it. Thank You,
Karoly
Where to get the adaptor to Mike stand
why did you use the DP-005 for the audio instead of the DP-006? Thank you for the great video!
I think he was using it just to capture ambient sound? But I may be wrong.
He used the DR05 for the *video's* audio and the DP006 for the music
I have a question: when you finish making your song how do you listen to it without headphones
I think you either have to use the headphones or export the file to computer
or run to mixer/amp/spkrs from headphone jack
Awesome video!!
Did you find any difficulties with creating a master track? I followed the steps in the manual and keep getting the error message "No Master Trk."
I haven't had that problem, but I understand that this happens when you record a track without having assigned a Master Track - check out page 92 in the Manual (found here: www.tascam.eu/en/docs/DP-006_Manual.pdf) to see if this will fix the problem.
Hello, I just bought one. Is it ok to connect my bass to it ? I just want to make sure it doesn’t get managed.
Those mics and preams aint too bad
What's the limit for how many parts (instruments) you can record into a song?
The question I have is can you use this device and transfer from an SD card or from the device itself into a d a w
Yes you can. You have to export the tracks into a wav file either separate or as 1 file. Once you do that it will save into the sd card.
Great vid thank you. Do you or does anyone here have nay guidance on how to record 5th and 6th tracks using the stereo tracks? Thank you
Yea, that's all well and good but for someone like myself it would have been more helpful if you would've shown a screen shot of the buttons you were pushing to accomplish those functions. Instrument petting zoo, yep. Thanks for your time.
No need to answer my question about Pro Tools. Another video did that for me.
Is it better than the 008EX?
Is there any latency at all?
Can I record without plugging the extra recorder you plugged in at the beginning? As in only using the internal mics?

Joe Brady can
How are you putting it on the mic stand like that?
It has a thing on the bottom you can screw it into.
4578a thank you
It's kinda stupid though because it's a small screw hole that you have to buy the adapter separately for .
It's actually a simple nightstand for photography which has a threaded stud at the top - simply screw it into the bottom of the recorder!
4578a it's a standard camera mount
took me 3 hours to work out how to record,my instructions are in spanish!
Curious to hear how you have progressed thus far, I'm looking into acquiring a recorder of this flavor, thanks!
it can be recorded from a console
Hello, can a chord progression be looped?
I'm just getting back in the swing after the holidays - I'll be exploring this more in the next few weeks - let me check into it and I'll get back to you!

The sound is good enough for producing CD's - a lot more than you would need for RUclips videos!

Hey Joe... 6 or 4 actual tracks. I see 4 yet it's called a 6
He said 2 are stereo so stereo convert to 2 tracks each. From what I understood.
joe how do you record backing tracks in stereo with both line ins? kind regards william
Can someone help me? i have a 16 Gb SD card. i recorded about 20 songs that take up about 200mb each. That should be 4 GB but it says the Card is full.
It might not be able to handle sd cards over 4 GB
you need to clean out your tracks.... this will get rid of all the unused/re-recorded takes.... will not delete main take( last take)
menu//track edit//clean out
What button do you press in order to hear what you just recorded? And also, what button do you press to stop recording?
Jaime Peters Hey, thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. I used it earlier this morning and I got the hang of it. 👍
Hi! I have one doubt: is it possible to record two diferent things separately in the stereo tracks or just record 4 diferent things in the whole process? Thanks a lot for helping.
pretty sure it is limited to just 2 tracks at once
you should be able to
Under $130? List price is now $189. Inflation I guess.
How come I can't here anything thru the headphones when i try recording an acoustic guitar track?
Nope, it did not sync with the clipboard director thingy. Looks like an old Japanese movie. Lol
This has nothing to do with the tascam 6 track recorder...
Zooommming sound is distracting
5 minut gada i gada i gada.
that told me nothing!
The Zoom R8, R16 buddy or the new l12
or the Zoom R24, Tascam DP24 or DP32. But if you get a good quality Condenser mic and Preamp, you can get studio grade recordings with this unit.
