Many folks perceive the DP-24 and the DP-32 to be the only Digital Portastudios from Tascam currently on the market. The DP Series, at the time of this presentation, has 5 models and they’re designed for various groups. Since these models have been around for years and are very popular, I wanted to share their features and differences in detail for those who aren’t aware and may be interested. I hope this information serves useful.
I absolutely love your videos and the music on your channel!!! ( The song LINGER 👍🎸) . So I am very curious I am not new to the concept of working with old school 8 tracks and I love the idea of not using a DAW. I watched many of your videos and basically I'm curious about , if I get the DS 24 version 1 with CD does it also include an SD slot? and would I be able to start recording tracks at a basic level before I learn everything there is to know about it? I really do like the idea of it I just don't know if it's too complicated , and I have a chance to pick one up at a great price but I just don't want to waste a lot of time. If you can offer any advice I would greatly appreciate it Thank you and again Great channel!!!
Yes, the DP-24 1st Generation unit does have an SD card slot. For tons more information on the unit, check out the DP-24/DP-32 Playlist on this channel. Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words. 👍🏿
Best explanation/review ever! Answered every question I had and even a couple I hadn’t thought about asking yet. Don’t know what Tascam is paying this guy, but it ain’t enough.
Very helpful information, thank you. It should also be noted that while the 008 and 006 units can run on AC adapters, the adapters themselves are sold separately.
Thank you so much for this much-needed (and well done) comparison of these models! I still don't understand why Tascam offers both the DP-008EX and the DP-003SD given their 90% similarity, but at least I know the difference now. I wish they would offer a 6" x 4" 8-track model, even if it had tiny knobs, for the real thing in portability! Excellent presentation!
I had the original PortaStudio and it was fantastic. Then the Porta One…a workhorse. But over the last decade I have found their internal amps noisy and low volume. Zoom is hotter, but noisy too. The cleanest thing these days is a Rode Podcaster Pro II…but it doesn’t have the economical footprint and features to make it a stand alone unit.
We LOVE our DP-32's! We are two long time friends living in different states and the DP-32 allows us to create music with Joe in Florida (and Michigan) and Craig in Illinois by simply sending SD cards back and forth (We are old school). To hear the audio quality of the DP-32, check out our albums on our RUclips channel.
I will most likely get 03sd or 008 after watching this well explained presentation. The battery operated 008 & 006 will be handy but wonder how practical is the remote control foot switch I would need to get for the 03sd?
Nice video, but there are a few inaccuracies with the table: DP-008EX and DP-006 both have 128x64 displays and the DP008EX has a backlight DP-006 also has 4 radial potentiometers, similar to how the DP-008 has 8 DP-006 has balanced inputs with automatic detection of unbalanced plugs
If You don't want to carry a laptop and 8 to 16 input interface the DP series is something to consider Tascam are reputable brand I own an old TSR-8 Reel to reel Analog multi-track and a 2416 Tascam mixer which serviced me well for many years till I went Digital though I still occasionally use these units along with many 19" rack-mounted effect units back in the day I would master down to a Sony 2300 DAT player. If I were to buy one it would be the DP-32, but these I suspect are probably showing there age by now as far as tech goes. But to this day they still serve a purpose. I have always liked Tasacam. I must admit sadly back in the day, a 16 track or 24 track was always out of my price league.
Can I ask this question? If I have a keyboard ( stereo left and right ) jacks plugged in to the Tascam dp 03sd, can I also use the XLR mic without unplugging those two keyboard jacks? My dp008 will not allow me to do this . I cannot use my external XLR mic until I unplug the keyboard jacks . Would appreciate knowing if the 03 SD has the same issue/problem . Thanks anyone
This is the first time I've seen your a channel, for I was looking for many different recording applications for computers, which I came across the Voice Meeter banana softwear, and doing my research. I came across your Channel, knowing about these different Tascam units, but you never mention the unit that had a format for the mini disc unit, correct me if I'm wrong I do remember a Tascam cassette recorder four track or was it 8 track. I'm not sure, then they had an 8-track Mini Disc unit, you never mention them.
Tascam was founded in 1971 in LA. There were so many previous Tascam units that I'll need to do a history video at some point. Too many too mention here. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
PC phobic? Just prefer to have a stand alone system without a dedicated PC. Sometimes simpler is better. People did wonders with old 2 and 4 track reel to reel recorders.
As per Tascam, the DP-004 has been discontinued in North, Central and South America. It has been replaced with the DP-006. No mis-count. The pupose of this presentation was to discuss models that were active and relased through Tascam at the time of the video. Thanks for watching.

This channel is not sponsored by any external company for products. However, thanks for the kind words. It's appreciated.

The dp-008ex does have the footswitch input for the remote pedal rc-f3
Excellent presentation of of the comparative features of the Tasman recorder line.Thank you for another interesting and helpful video.
Thanks so much for watching. 👍🏿
Just got a dp008ex it's very good easy to use and I would recommend them to anyone wanting to buy a multi track recorder..
Does the vocal recording sound Crip, or is there air in the sound ? Does it feel cheaply made ? Would you recommend?
Thanks for uploads...I have recently bought the DP-24SD based on your videos..🙂🙂
Thanks for watching. It's appreciated. 👍🏿

Helped me to make the right choice for me personally (03sd)- THANK YOU for such a detailed comparison 🙏
You're most welcome. Thanks so much for watching. 👍🏿
what made you choose the 03sd over the 008? I'm trying to pick between the two personally and can't find much that the 03 can do that the 008 can't do
Thank you for wonderful job!
Now I know what should I go for.
Thanks for watching. 👍🏿

Do you know the TASCAM DP 02 CF? Is it good?
That model has been discontinued in North, Central and South America. However, it was still a decent machine for the price. Thanks for watching.

Looking to buy my first for home use, I'm a complete novice but I like the look of the dp 02

What about the DP02 ???
The DP02 model has been discontinued in North, Central and South America. Thanks for watching.
Hi do you know if the tascam portastudios will come out with one that has 32 bit float record/playback resolution?
For additional functionality in that realm, I would suggest checking out the Tascam MODEL series units. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿

DP-008 SD Does have a footswitch facility for punch in and out.
YOU ~ ROCK ! !
Is there any multitracker out there (any brand) that has pitch correction for vocals? I figured you would know if anyone would.
Not that I'm aware of at this time. Thanks for watching.
Informative 👍
Thanks for watching.
My only question is whats the difference between the DP24 & the DP24SD

You guys forgot to mention the DP02
We didn't forget. The DP02 was discontinued by Tascam, and replaced with the DP-03SD. Thanks for watching.

You Miss-Counted. The DP-004 Exists and Existed before the Dp-006.
