“Don’t practice until you get it right, practice until you can’t get it wrong” Around 8:20 the sense of ease you’re talking about comes from an unfathomable amount of work
The genre they’re in is polyphia 😂 Super technical melodic prog rock. But they set their own mold for sure. All of them are absolutely masterful, thank you for checking these guys out!!
Yeah the new DGD album for sure, and Royal Coda's new album too. The fact they have members in both bands makes it interesting. Saw them last night in Detroit, and having seen them many times over the last 10+ years it was some of the best they've all sounded.
I was able to see these guys on August 3rd and I have to say its probably one of the best shows I've been to. They were just so good! Their opener was a German band named Unprocessed which was also really, really good.
I love that you reacted to Neurotica. Polyphia recently dropped their new song called ABC. Would love to see a reaction video on it. Keep posting great and insightful content
I definately agree with what you were saying about the complexity of polyphia s music, they definately fall into that catagory of appealing to musicians. In addition to that I think its really clever that they appeal to a much wider audience by having really memerable hooks and melodies up front for everyone to enjoy that never get lost in the complexity. They also have found a really modern trap hip hop sound for that amazing bass / drums section that mean not only guitar shred heads are impressed, but the b-boys can gush over the beats and bass. The composition is as impressive to me as the virtuoso execution. Loved your take as always, keep up the good work. P. S this is definately not the album vesion, I actually like the sound of this much more than the official music video, which comes across much more compressed and polished. 🤟🤟🤟
Polyphia's genre? Inter-dimensional Elevator Music. Also, without all that Clay around to hold things together Tim and Scott would go flying off into the great beyond.
I’d say it’s easier to sum up Polyphia as “progressive” rather than trying to define them further than that. Most instrumental bands with have a guitar melody that has a crazy hook of something so you don’t even notice there’s no vocals. Another cool instrumental band to check out would be Intervals. They’re more of a metal band, but sonically fun to listen to. Same with Animals As Leaders and Scale The Summit.
Next polyphia reaction you should do is The Anomaly. It is polyphia doing jazz and it is pure music genius. These guys never cease to amaze me at how well they can adapt their style to any style. Highly recommend.
I love your videos!!! Welcome back! You should definitely review knowing you’ve already arrived by tides of man, if possible! It’s actually tilian singing there :) Also, I LOVE Polyphia. Tim, and the whole band, is honestly just so incredible and talented. The unique sounds they have are almost unrivaled in my opinion. I can’t wait for your next videos!!
This is a sub genre of metal believe it or not. They started as a metal band and have always added to their sound and changed over the years but they still play with other metal bands live.
The melody they are using for this song is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star lmao if you sing along that first part of the song, thats literally the melody they used for that song lol
I listen to them so I'll always remember I'll never be that good at guitar haha. Seriously they are incredible. You should check out their song Aviator. It's a bit older but so good with an amazing solo from Jason richardson.
The genre is called "Polyphia." lol. But really, they're their own thing at this point. I'm one of those people who can't understand how you wouldn't like this stuff, but that's just me.
It's kind of like describing Rush. A lot of folks back in the day when people were just trying to describe Rush to each other said their genre was "Rush," because nothing else really fit. And like Polyphia, it was word of mouth that put them on the map initially.
Ay nice Jinjer shirt! I love that band. Have you heard anything off the new DGD album Jackpot Juicer? that one and Royal Coda's new album To Only A Few At First just came out and they're both suuuuper good.
Really interesting! Thank you for exposing me to something I don’t think I would have come across on my own. Why does this remind me of Dirty Loops? The worked out feel of it maybe? By the way, I was once in a band with two guys named Ray Rivera. We were hoping to find a third.
I honestly think Polypyia sound better on live recordings like this. They're so good I just prefer to hear the base parts without all the extra production behind it sometimes.
He picked up something about polyphia that most people dont though.. he's not good at words lol. They have soul in their hypertechnical playing Polyphia is a musicians band. The people who love them play and.. well theyre fucking gods. Nonmusicians might not get it but theyre .. mindblowing
Would love to see you do something a bit more heavy! Check out Berried Alive! Songs Hump, Fuego, or God Jammit. Charles' style is so sick and i really think you'd get a kick out of watching him play! They have a couple music videos w/ vocals as well, but mostly instrumental playthroughs. If you opt for a music video i recommend Strawberry Serenity!

Amen
Glad you got to this. Really would love to see you get to the new Dance Gavin Dance song, Feels Bad Man. I know you will love it.
Absolutely!
Honestly he should just a super long video where he reacts to the whole of Jackpot Juicer because it is a magnum opus
The genre they’re in is polyphia 😂

100% agree
The new royal coda album I think he would totally enjoy
That genre is Math Rock 😇
so beautiful genre i ever heard
Love them. Really enjoy the complexity. And I agree with you, if it moves me…that’s all I need.
I was able to see these guys on August 3rd and I have to say its probably one of the best shows I've been to. They were just so good! Their opener was a German band named Unprocessed which was also really, really good.
The rhythm section of this band is legendary
I love that you reacted to Neurotica. Polyphia recently dropped their new song called ABC. Would love to see a reaction video on it. Keep posting great and insightful content
I love that Luke Holland (drummer for Falling in Reverse) wrote and recorded the drum track on this song! Love your reactions
Luke only helped write the track. It's recorded by clay, after adding his own flare.
always a good time when david dives into polyphia haha

Just wanted to throw Plini into the mix, too

I messed up it's called The Audacity. XD my bad.
Seconded
Anomalie is the keyboard solo on the track. It’s great
Imagine if a 90s boyband became a metal band and stoped singing forever
I love your videos!!! Welcome back! You should definitely review knowing you’ve already arrived by tides of man, if possible! It’s actually tilian singing there :)

I can assure you that they play tight af live. I’ve seen them a few time and highly recommend going to a show 🤘🏼
I second the Royal Coda request... We Slowly Lose Hope For Things To Come... Even If... you can't really go wrong

Dance gavin dance, i previal, and polyphia all have new albums dropping or already out
Also Royal Coda :D
It such a pleasure

Now digging up old Spyro Gyra, Brand X, GRP CDs from the 80s. David remembers that one.
I wish you would listen to their first album they released when they were like 16. It was heavier and really catchy stuff. Their best work IMO
David, you would like to watch a vídeo with Plini, Tim and Cory Wong called Sunset, it has the same vibe
This song rules
Love that you are wearing a Jinjer short
💙💛
You need to listen to Charles Berthoud Bass Verson of this tune.

Fantastic video! Please react to more dance gavin dance !
Boss please please please take some time to react to Saphath's music video for the song called "Outcast of Eden", it's impressive as hell
I like the acoustic version better because you can hear the bass more clearly
It is not the official single, i think it is more like a live session, the released a music video for this one too ! :)
I need your take on their newest song with Steve Vai!
Polyphia make rock ‘n’ roll for pop and rap fans
You should check One Ok Rock - We Are Japan Dome, that video is magical!
Love your videos man! You have to do some reviews on Dance Gavin Dance's new album!
You were looking for a clever Clay on Words 😂
Music for musicians
Man you gotta react to Polyphia newest song, ABC, please 😩
those are a lot of clays, i'm agree
The only Clay I've known in real life was a drummer
Thelonious Monk - Evidence
Grand Prize Winner
Please react to Badflower!
Lol no one gives AF about the Mono intro. Evidence is one of my favorites
You picked up on a Lot of things few people get about polyphia :)
I honestly think Polypyia sound better on live recordings like this. They're so good I just prefer to hear the base parts without all the extra production behind it sometimes.
Please listen to bad omens and starset I think you would really like them also more Ice Nine Kills

Can you react to Hollywood Undead please
Please check out Royal Coda's New album
It bugs me when I don’t recognize your name that tunes. I think it was a jazz tune but couldn’t quite recognize the changes
Was that a song from Jaco’s Word of Mouth album?
i could call it melodic mathrock 🙂
Please listen to the contortionist
evidence
YESSSSSSSS
I think you shouldn't pause the video, it kills the momentum.
is it just me or is everything hanging in the background completely unlevel
