And to rub salt in the wound, when you type "Freeloader" into google this is first thing you get "a person who takes advantage of others' generosity without giving anything in return." meaning that youtube viewers and twitch viewers aren't freeloaders. To explain (Cause I know you have trouble understanding this Destiny) 1. The service is free so both the viewer and streamer know that is free and that the viewer is required to pay a dime. 2. The streamer is profiting and choosing to post their content to no one particular person so it is not "Generosity" and this is even more destroyed by the streamer asking people to sub. 3. The streamer still benefits from the viewer when they don't sub which is something that is a known fact and is pointless to argue against.
I also really liked how Destiny said that it's not true that this chick didn't lose all those subs based on nothing but his own amitted assumption and conjecture. And even if (And that a BIG IF) we give him that those are bots she still lost those subs, and I would be fine with giving him that if it weren't for all Destiny's assumption, dishonest tatics, Strawmans, and terrible arguments.
So with all that and a few other things I haven't mentioned it's quite clear Destiny UTTERLY lost this debate and ended up looking like a fool. Nothing personal to Destiny I just think he made very shitty arguments and debate tactics and comes off as a narcissistic asshole.

I also love how he has the balls to say Bowblax's wording is weaselly with everything highlighted above when he tries to an overly literal interpretation of everyday wording to back his argument and even if you gave that to him he still looks like a fool. I also like how his entire argument is based off the assumption that the average twitch streamer could "Afford" to sub, but the argument itself needs to be distinguished between the least charitable, dishonest and overly literal interpretation that Destiny has versus the everyday persons understand of what "Can't afford" in this context. His "Reasonable position to take" (Which sure in his overly literal perspective sure it's reasonable but for a normal person not acting like a narcissistic it really isn't because he doesn't have evidence to back his claim) he even admits that he is assuming that the average person can "Afford" a sub.

Look freeloader as a word is obviously a loaded word in common parlance. Sure it's technically morally neutral in an economics context but almost everybody who uses the word freeloader is doing it with the bad connotation. He wasn't loading is as much as you should have made clear that you didn't make any moral judgement with the term.

It was only unfair to Destiny to assume the word "freeloader" could so easily not carry a negative connotation, but it wasn't hard to understand that Destiny doesn't place as much weight on the word as it naturally would.
It's a semantics argument, and all they really needed to do was give Destiny a better word to use to shut down that whole "you don't know what freeloader means" argument.

Just because certain words are commonly loaded doesn't change the definition, or the fact that the words have actual useful meaning outside of a potentially common negative connotation. The reason he doesn't acknowledge the negative connetation is because it derails the argument and serves no purpose. Is it somewhat dishonest? Yes. However forcing the negative connetation and trying to shift the argument to "she was mean because she used this word that is commonly negative" is also dishonest.
Very similar to the JLP "do you love all black people?" Question. It might be a loaded dishonest question, but the simplest way to move forward in the conversation is to just say yes.
Vantier Just to clarify; this particular word’s definition is what determines it’s connotation. Deriving any sort of connotation besides a negative one would be absurd.

Damn i used to sub to a couple of these guys. I dropped Tommy when he started calling everyone to the left of him a "left wing lunatic". I dropped Bowblax when he said in one of his "objective" videos that he hopes drama continues so he can cover it. Made me feel like I was subbed to a mosquitoe. Still subbed to Nicholas, but man he seemed super hung up on Destiny's sex life here. It's no ones fault if you're not comfortable with an open relationship, but damn hop off the nuts of people who are. Destiny handled this cackling group of middle school bullies like the only adult in the room.
I wouldn't say he handled it like an adult, just because it seems almost impossible to engage those guys like an actual adult. That being said Destiny's performance was for sure on point regardless.

Fun Times... Sometimes Tommy’s been desensitized by the whole Bloodsports meme similar to Keem, albeit not nearly as irritatingly. That scene thrives off bad faith ad homs and shock more than actually having a discussion though, and so does a good chunk of up-and-coming drama channels. Like him or not (and i get why some don’t), Destiny always seems to walk away the best looking whenever he enters a noisy dog pile. He’s miffed me quite a few times the past year or two but honestly this kinda made me glad I’m still subbed.

I like how this exact topic was huge back in the day with illegally downloading music on Napster and shit, and we all came to the conclusion that it's fine to listen without paying, but if you like what you hear and can afford it, then you should prolly chip in and support the artist. Im surprised noone really made that correlation
The topic has shifted about the "consumers" responsibility throughout the years. It started with Music, then when availability came around it died down. Then it was TV and Movies; now We have tons of Streaming services. At every turn, those cheap fucks, who don't want to put in dance around how it's not the thing it is. Now it's settled on streamers, which isn't really much of a thing. She was clear, relatively, about wanting people to sub; her tone could use some work but she will not be affected by this in the long term. She'll continue to live in these guy's heads rent free, and they like it because it gives them something to jerk off to.
Illegal downloads are compareable to watching videos on twitch/RUclips? Even viewers who don’t pay or use Adblock are helping the streamer and the platform by boosting those creators in the algorithm. If we say for instance 40% of viewers use Adblock and don’t donate, if those viewers were removed and not watching at all, the streamer would unquestionably be negatively affected by that loss. An increase in engagement/views makes the content become more accessible in the algorithm, which can bring in even more viewers and by probability law, if there are more viewers, there are likely to be more who will directly, or indirectly (watching without Adblock) support the creator/platform. Every viewer is valuable and does provide something in return for the service they enjoy that can result in tangible benefits for the content creator/streamer/platform, they are not freeloading. The free rider problem that Destiny often references is a different concept from freeloading, and Destiny conflates these things.
@@SamRiddeli theyre pretty similar, i think the streaming is a little more complicated than music tho. If your main objective is to get a bunch of viewers then yeah, a majority adblocking fanbase doesnt matter. But if you aim to make a living out of streaming, your main hope should be that the algorithm will attract more donators, just like with musicians banking off of word-of-mouth.
That said im poor asf and never donate to anyone, and i dont think watching for free is a shitty thing to do

Like this whole argument is so cringe to follow. Yes she says "you don't have to sub" but the main reason people are mad is the tone she takes when she says people basically should sub. And to the freeloader comment... It doesn't matter, at all, what the definition of a word is. It matters what people mean by that word in real life. And I would argue the majority of people, especially on Twitch, would say freeloading is a negative derogatory term. A ton of words are morally loaded and this is one of them.

Destiny is wrong on two fronts here, it's really bad. First, he's acting as if the word "freeloader" has no negative connotation and it's dishonest as hell. Definitely not the first time he was dishonest to win an argument, but hey.
Second, the definition of the word "freeloader" is "a person who takes advantage of others' generosity without giving anything in return.". Now, neither you nor Vie are streaming out of generosity. You have accepted the working model of twitch, and model says that people can view your content for free and donate/sub if they so choose.
It's actually the other way around. YOU are living off of GENEROSITY of OTHERS.

In fact, if they want, they can stream only to people that sub, yet they don't choose that. Curious! It's almost as if streaming for everyone, even for those that don't pay, is a better business model for them!
