- About this march:
"Preußens Gloria" ("The Glory of Prussia" or "Prussia's Glory") was written in 1871 after the Kingdom of Prussia's victory in the Franco-Prussian War, which led to the unification of the German states into the new Prussian-led German Empire.
About the composer:
Johann Gottfried Piefke (9 September 1817 - 25 January 1884) was a German band leader, (Kapellmeister) and composer of military music.

Prussia died as a result of its single-minded flaws. If William II & Adolf Hitler had learned from Frederick II & Prince Bismarck and used the military only as a means to a political end and for self-defense rather than attempting to dominate Europe, the results might have turned out quite differently. Germany was bound to be a great nation one day except for the management of headstrong but persuasive amateurs.
Catchy tunes - interesting old video. But all this seems to glorify a militaristic culture which bears great responsibility for two world wars. Not very edifying...
