I'm surprised nobody talks about the Ghoul watching himself in the movie... the line about being ugly, strong, and having dignity... but only 2 out of 3. Lucy's "golden rule, MF" line might have sparked something in him, but seeing himself deliver that line is what really started a fire.
You could say she "set a flame in his Heart"
Aaron has an…interesting theory on vault experiments
I had to giggle at Calvin looking like he was deciding whether to tell him or not.
Nah, Vaultech would never do that, they're just a good samaritans mega corporation
@@ZaberFangAT He is the only one, who didnt spoil the thing. :D
That would be so crazy
Well, this show is borrrring tbh so the vault experiments is invalid.
I've only just noticed that ghoul-cooper doesn't have the same accent as smoothskin-cooper, its the voice he does when he's playing a western character.
I assume it’s from all the times he got close to feral or just a consequence on him becoming a ghoul: characterwise it’s showing how grizzled the wasteland has left him
There's a theory that he's dissociating himself as Cooper vs a character that he plays (the cowboy/the ghoul)
When method acting goes too far
It's not far fetched that his accent has changed considering how long he's lived...
It's also kinda weird to think about that this washed up actor (who tbf fought in the war) ends up becoming one of the deadliest bounty hunters in the wasteland
"She can't see very well" 😂😂😂
Its nice to see the show from an outsiders perspective like Aaron's. Trying to piece together the clues about stuff with the vaults without prior knowledge of the lore.
So like most of the audience who are watching the show
Pretty sure he said he played fallout 3 so he knows a little about the world I think..
@@Phoenix-ti6tx you truly believe that "most" of the audience weren't fans of the game first? where are you getting your information from?
Even if most of the audience didn't play the games (doubtful), the OP was saying how it is nice to SEE the show from that perspective. He's talking about actually watching the reaction of someone who doesn't have a ton of knowledge about the games. Most of the people who watch the show don't have cameras filming their reaction.
@@sham00ly21I think Aaron only got up to Megaton and something happened that caused him to stop playing... But I might be thinking of another RUclipsr.
"Golden Rule MotherF^$&er" Like Excuse me Ella Purnell as If i didnt already adore Lucy already!! She is really repping that Good Karma run like a pro! It's harder than the other runs but man is it rewarding!
Yippy KaYay Motherfuqqa! I assume she learned that word from watching one of Coop’s movies in 33
Simply another "Die Hard" reference of many. Lucy was literally the name of Bruce Willis'/John McClane's daughter.
Honestly she is what makes the show work without Ella Purnell. Walther Goggins is great and I like norm and his story line but jesus christ maximus is terrible. Makes the show difficult to rewatch.
Aaron doesn't regularly crack me up but the 'She doesn't see very well' after 'He's just a mannequin' absolutely killed me
The TV in the Super Duper Mart is a Radiation King, a brand originally mentioned on The Simpsons
Radiation King products appear in Fallout, published on October 10, 1997. When was it on the Simpsons?
Edit: The appearance of the set refers to Homer Simpson's childhood television set as seen in episode 10 of season 06, "Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy" that aired December 4, 1994.
Calvin does absolutely spot on Matt berry impressions
There's no fudge here!
"If you took Burt's shoes" really taken to another level!
Pretty much every reaction of this show I’ve seen wonders why snip snip bothers fixing Lucy’s fingers when he’s gonna harvest her organs anyway
I just assumed it was programming; a little contrived, but nbd imo
It allows the finger not to rot as we can see with the people being kept there they don't just harvest all their organs all at once. So if anyone needs a new finger they can just take it back. Snip snip I think mentions how some of the fingers are to rotten
I figured he was giving her a false sense of security. Make her feel comfortable, which he did, and then shoot her with a dart.
My guess is because medical care is its highest priority so he tries to fix the finger first before going to his regular programming which in this case is organ harvesting
@@t2force212 same: like this Intn’l Mk4 was default loaded as a surgeon, but the guys’ best efforts to reprogram him could not override triage
“Head’s important” ~ Aaron 2024
Looking back I think this was a favorite episode, there’s tons of good ahead but this one had so much nuance and implications that you can figure out for yourself. As well as awesome narrative framing beats.
Lucy even when she left the vault to go into the big bad world didn’t bring a gun. There were tons of guns in that vault, she trained a ton to shoot with them, she brought a tranquilizer- but only after her finger is replaced does she shoot a gun at someone.
The Ghoul wasn’t torturing her- because torture doesn’t work and more shows need to fucking say that- he just liked causing her pain and frustration while using her as bait.
We got the notion that The Ghoul had “parts cut out of him” when he was trapped for 30 years by some important person back East. Well if ghouls actually regenerate organs and don’t just mutate out of control- if you find a ghoul whose organs you can accept you have actually discovered long healthy life for yourself (especially when if they do blood transfusions or other things) so long as you feed them with IV drip. Which is funny cause that’s how people live forever in Stars Without Number, with a bunch of clones of themselves as organ/DNA farms, and they are called Ghouls. And it turns out there’s a whole economy in Ghouls being used as organ growers.
Also I love the scene with the Ghoul watching his movie. Because we really don’t know what he’s thinking or feeling. There’s so much of that kind of thing in this episode and when they do answer it, frequently the answer was also unexpected with more narrative beyond. Some folks described the show as “like Lost with answers” and at least in feel and flow it does manage that a lot better.
Also in a previous ep the shop keeper talked down to her about how she didn’t belong, was too clean and had all ten fingers…
I cannot wait for future seasons. Even in this one they got to touch on it, but this show's world struck gold with the social commentary on corporations and the impacts they have on people. Even just the dynamic between vault dwellers and surface dwellers is incredible. I know the game came up with it, but having the show really focus in on it and tell the story in this way was a great choice. Not surprised the show is as successful as it is!
Patiently waiting for you guys to react to the "What We Do in the Shadows" TV-show someday and get so much more Matt Berry deliciousness!
fun fact. Lucy uses the fallout 4 version of the 10mm pistol to kill Martha in this episode. This is interesting as in episode 2 Maximus is shown to use the Fallout 1/2 version of the 10mm to kill the bear. A really fun thing about the show is that they use the different variations for the same items from the different games. Another example is in different episodes the fallout 3/new vegas version of a nuka cola bottle is used and others times they use the fallout 4 version. Another cool one is in Ma June's shop multiple different pip boy models can be seen on display. Mainly the pip boy 2000 mark 6 from fallout 76 and the pipboy 3000 mark IV from fallout 4. A 3rd one is also there but its not focused on and is too blurred to make out.
The show plays just a few years after Fallout 4 and according to Todd Howard all of the games and their events are cannon, he didn't say which specific endings of the games are cannon tho and how things exactly happened, probably just to keep things vague and give the writers creative liberty
@@_Chaosnight_ well for one i know all that. And the show takes a full 9 years after 4 which i'd class as more than "a few" years. Regardless i don't see how that is relevant to anything i said in my original comment.
@@thewerewolff7248 toxic lmao, typical fallout fans
@@codywalsh2075
How is what I just said toxic? I am confused by the reply’s relevance to my original comment and my statement as such is ultimately a request for an explanation. It’s not like i insulted them or anything. I’m just confused why that’s a reply to my comment and not just a separate comment.
@thewerewolff7248 dude, look at your replies... yikes
I think he puts her finger back on so she is in "mint condition", making her organs more valuable to the buyer.
It's just the original programming I believe, couldn't be deleted so it fixed the patient first with it's defaults and then went to it's new programming after, most robots in Fallout have programming issues due to how long they have been running without any updates or maintenance. Very rare you meet one that is all there.
All Ghouls eventually turn Feral, going Feral is basically Ghoul dementia, they might age slower than normal people and are pretty much immortal in most ways but their bodies deteriorate at the same pace as with regular humans, Ghouls become blind, deaf and have arthritis and cancer in almost every part of their body at some point, their minds is the last thing they lose some day
There are things that both slow down or speed up the process of going Feral, things like large dosages of radiation significantly speed up the process, while the meds Cooper takes help him slow it down or possibly even temporarily stop the process all together
The thing about Ghouls tho is that they need radiation to survive, not enough and they die, to much and they go Feral, they need a perfectly balanced amount to keep them alive and healthy
like a plant
Calvin does a really great Matt Berry impersonation. Nice one Cal.
I realized something during this rewatch -- A bit of a spoiler but it happens at the beginning of next episode --- The ghoul sewed on the index finger he cut off of Lucy's hand to replace the one she bit off. I wonder if the having her 'DNA' is going to have a ramification down the line. If I remember correctly, they showed a DNA scanner in Vault 33 ... I wonder if it will be a plot point for him to eventually gain entry to her vault.
But you need a pipboy to get inside the vault
@@elvenoormg5919 That's only a problem if Ma June's Sundries is out of business.
Nice of Calvin not to mention anything when it came to Aaron saying about vault experiments wants to keep the mystery for him
Having watched ahead, I loved listening to Calvin and Aaron's debate and speculation at the end. They had a lot of questions I had as well at seeing this episode as well. Can't wait to see how their understanding evolves over the future episodes!
"Ugly, strong, and had dignity" describes the 3 main characters.
Also describes The Ghoul, as he's got 2 of the 3.
Calvin fighting to withhold information is hilarious
Dave Register (Chet) would make a good Clark Kent.
I said the same thing, he would be perfect
13:35, sock guy from "Free Guy"!
Seeing you guys talking about your appreciation for Matt Berry makes me really want a Garth Marenghis Dark Place reaction series 🤣
About the production:
From what I read, they used lots of practical sets. Those were built in the studio and outside, on the parking lot. They also used blue screens and a volume stage.
I'm not sure the anti feral drug was overly referenced in the games, at least I don't recall that being a thing. Ghouls either went feral or they didn't from what I recall. The drug seems to be a show invention and given that ghoulification would be a post nuked world condition, I would be very surprised if a drug to combat it existed prior to the bombs dropping. It had to have been invented when ghoulification became a problem so I don't think it would be limited and unable to be reproduced due to lack of tech. Med-X was called Morphine in Fallout 3's pre-release build after all and was only called that to avoid being banned in some countries for references to actual drugs and Med-X is still produced within the fallout universe.
The games have never mentioned an anti-feral drug, but it's not unfeasible - there's a serum that seems to turn Thaddeus into a ghoul later in the show, and in Fallout 2 an NCR scientist was trying to develop a serum that could reverse mutations, though it just dissolved a super mutant. All things considered, as ghouls became more accepted on the West Coast in civilized places and concerns over them turning feral grew, I don't think it unreasonable that someone may have come up with some sort of serum that can help stave off feral-tude.
I do wonder how much of a spoken library Matt Berry gave them for the role, and whether we'll hear him in future game installments.
Dude! Your Matt Barry impression came out of nowhere and blew me away! Wow! Awesome skills!
The Ghoul - Man in Black, Dolores - Lucy, Bernard - Maximus. Jonathan thought he'd fool us.
My headcanon about Vault 32 is that they found out something and rose up against their Overseer and his people. But there was some kind of failsafe (not gonna share my idea what) that sealed the Vault doors and shut off the solar lamps they needed to grow food. That led to what the Raiders (and later Norm) found in there.
Your Matt B. impression was very good!
I learned to love MB in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and The Mighty Boosh. Also: the appropriate MB pointing must be pointing with the thumb pointing up (like a 'flinger-gun', for Americans). Classic.
It's a video game. You can't get too fixated on the logical details.
Am I crazy or are their studio audio channels backwards? lol I've watched a lot of Blind Wave but this is the only time I've noticed. Aaron primarily comes out of the left channel and Calvin out of the right. Not a big deal or anything, just an observation.
10:35 Aaron sure had an epiphany
Those Matt Berry impressions are amazing, I left my phone to do something and thought you were playing clips from the show
I remember that subway in FO3, suddenly I was playing a horror game.
Pre nuke Cooper did not want to do the shooting scene. It looks like the movie production edited the film to make the final version *look* like he actually did shoot the guy.
I think he actually backed down and shot the scene like the director wanted. It's a good contrast to Lucy. She just went through hell and still saved his life by giving him the vials because she lives by her "golden rule."
I'm sure Cooper tells himself that he had to do all these horrible things and become "The Ghoul" in order to survive the apocalypse, but watching this particular scene reminds him that he started compromising his principles long before he got to the wasteland. He used to be Lucy, but now, through his own choices, he's become the polar opposite. At least, that's how I read his expression when he watches himself shoot the guy in the movie.
My explanation for the theme of the Fallout world is the 1950s vision of "The World of Tomorrow" that got blown to hell by atomic weapons.
Star Wars jacket is dope!
Again, great episode, awesome music, fun reaction from the Wave Crew! FALLOUT HOORAH!
Adore Matt Berry, highly recommend watching What We Do In The Shadows. Surprised BW haven't covered the series yet tbh, it's hilarious.
Man, you guys really should watch What We Do in the Shadows, the tv show. Matt Berry is amazing in it. And Jackie Daytona is also such a great actor for his cameo episode despite only being a regular bartender.
"Yeaahhh.. she can't see very well.."
TOO SOON, AARON😂🤣
This show is, hands down, the best show based on a game ever made, primarily because it truly embraces the fact that the games are the source material. I think the first person in the writers room to use the world 'realism' was fired on the spot, and I'm here for it.
Norm would be a great Detective.
Snip Snip probably fixed Lucy's finger because his primary programming was as a medical assistant. The stoners had probably added additional routines to do their dirty work which would always be secondary.
Just a theory.
Awesome reaction of my favorite episode of Fallout!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
17:05 'Medicine' Bruh he's inhaling/chugging all drugs he can find
Rose was from vault 33, the raiders came in through 32, which was already empty. How did the raiders know which vault was empty? And if the vault overseers were in touch with each other, wouldn't Hank have known that something was amiss in 32? Questions ...
LMAO, I am wearing my "Jackie Daytona" t-shirt as I watch this. Mattception!
Steph never hated Burt, in fact she loved the hell out of him. Y'all forget the killing frenzy she went on after he was murdered?
The foosball men were Vault boys
Fallout has always been horrific violence with a cheery soundtrack, so I think they've nailed it.
When I first heard Matt Berry all I could hear was “Fuck you Clem Fandango”
"Fire the Nuclear Weapons!!"
There's 122 known vaults
Hmmm, very good theory about the vaults and their purpose.....
Snip-Snip reminds me of Dr Trager from Outlast
25:26 Respectable BritBonger anncent there Calvin... 🤣🤣
You should react to solo leveling. It’s one of the best anime I’ve watched in a long time.
11:42 Someone wanted some toast just forgot the bread. Damn I was like this show got really Dark AF
Look at the flowers Roger
you guys should watch what we do in the shadows matt berry is hilarious in that show
The Fallout 3 metros were a nightmare I remember fondly...
Those little ass shoes 😂😂👞👞
calvin what is that jacket i need it now
Love this show.. shame you’re not all watching it
I wonder if the 128 lbs her dad lost back in the day was the wife.
I feel there are many comparisons to "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" Lucy is the good, Coop is the Ugly and Maximus is the Bad.
I don't like this show much but it was worth a watch. I hope they add aliens in season 2 and explore New Vegas.
These reactions make me wish the show was weekly because so much of the hype died down.
Smooth brain opinion.
@@Sharpstoned 🤓👆
Y'all dropping episodes quicker than the bomb at the start of Fallout 4.
Did they explain why its only them reacting i probbaly missed
Yes. Eric has a personal issue to deal with at home
Oh man, I know I say this every video, but damn is it a shame that Eric isn't there. And Rick too of course, but this will probably end up being the biggest series of the year, and one of the OGs being absent just sucks. Now please make up for it by reacting to X-Men '97.
Where is Eric?
Pretty sure it’s just Calvin and Aaron for fallout, don’t think Eric has watched one episode with them
@@reapersoul8506 hope Eric catches up and joins in…
He fixed her finger so she could stay in storage without losing blood or getting infected. Her organs needed to be working when they were extracted. Plus, if you listen to the guys, they say they have a client ready so to harvest her right away.
Appreciate your reaction and discussion as always.
Eric missing out big time
I would have loved to have Eric's perspective on this series. It's a pitty he's chosen not to get involved in this one.
Y’all gonna be 100 years old before you finish reacting to these episodes
Did we get an answer as to why Eric isn’t reacting to this?
The ending when Cooper watch his own movie. My interpretation is he felt betrayed that his work has been defiled. He took pride in his work but director post edited it.
Not trying to be rude, but thats a lame take that doesn't make much sense.
It's more that he didn't even follow his own ideals to the T, he did the scene otherwise it wouldn't be in the movie. Now he realized he became the guy he didn't even want to "play" before.
Yeah thats just wrong. This guys got the right idea^
Oh wow, Aaron is THAT blind about the fallout universe? Yall know the moment im talking about, but i wont point it out bc it could be considered spoilers (not that they read comments anyway)
Hard to play video games when you got kids and a wife. Sadly he's limited on being a geek.
Aaron has said before that he has a hard time watching or playing anything too mature at home due to having younger kids. I personally am up 6-7 hours after my kids go to bed, but I don't sleep a whole lot lol.
@@my5head Ah yeah, having the kids around definitely makes fallout a risky play
Bro really said i wonder if the vaults are experiments
like that's not the plot of the entire franchise.
You're putting way too much thought into the "two people strangling each other" thing, I can tell you it's not an important detail.
If she hated him she wouldn't have gotten enraged when she was his dead body
Only 2 reactors for Fallout???and 4 for a lot of simple childish cartoon mangas???I really don't understand It...
sure, that's a very close-minded way of looking at it
Do you mean anime? They don't do a whole lot of book discussion except for Star Wars. But anyways, people enjoy what they do and while Fallout is my favorite game series, let's not pretend it's one the most profound and deepest of stories lol.
I speak for your community, this show is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaadddd
You speak for only yourself .just like I speak for only myself
