I think it is a landfill. One, because of the name, two because of how the place looks (yeah most settlements are garbage, but this one felt like piles of garbage), and three because of how green and lush the environment around there was, when right outside there was all desert. Maybe the trash and such protected or fed the land enough to keep it green?
I think its both a reference to the area looking like a landfill whole also likely being a reference to fillmore which is only about 30-40 miles from santa monica where vault 33 is located. Its likely not an actual landfill. All towns look like a landfill after a nuclear fallout.

I have jumped or jet packed down into a spot my power armor couldn't get out of... this entire series is insanely accurate to the game. From the funny NPCs (THIS COULD ALLLL BE YOURS!) to the vaults, the spot-on Assaultron. It's so good.
I know i've heard some people complain about the comedy and the dialogue the some of the characters but as a vet Fallout player I say the dialog is spot on!
I think the people who complain about the humor, probably just did a main story run and never bothered to explore, read the stuff on terminals, pick up notes and listen to tapes or meet all the NPCs. The fallout series is absolutely loaded with humor.

@Welcometoourfamily-ql7vzneeded a show to miss in order to take care of some health concerns and it just so happened to work out with these 2 just recently finishing Reacher
The Ghoul is definitely packing endgame legendary weapons with explosive rounds. He's the player after you beat the game. Lucy is the brand new noob player and I think maximus might be the idiot savant character you play for laughs on your fourth playthrough.
39:30 - The one with "Satan" is "End of Days" with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gabriel Byrne. The "6th Day" is about Cloning. "The Eraser" is about some HighEnergy weapons.
The Ghoul's gun prop is based on revolving shotgun that's normally in .410 gauge. There are several companies that have a version in production, including Turkish manufactured. A REV410 is pretty close example before modifications.
One filming mistake they left in, where Cooper is reloading behind the cart and that guy with a hole in his neck slumps to his right, Cooper has a round in his hand taken from his bandelier and you can see him just rubbing it against the side of his gun because the rounds are actually too big to fit in the gun's chamber.
Some things more: 1. The Goul fight in the town was just like V.A.T.S in the game. 2. Wilzig is from Anclave (Brotherhood scribe said that). Not just a random scientist. 3. That Filly town is so similar to the Fallout 4 one with the bomb i almost cried. The Ghoul bombed my shed there. I remember byuing it. Even the bar and traders are like the same as in game.
The short explanation of the aesthetic of the Fallout world is that in this alternate timeline Microprocessors were never invented so instead of technically focusing on computing it stayed on the 1950s nuclear style. It was such a popular thing that eventually even cars are nuclear powered. The date the bombs dropped was October 23, 2077, since this takes place 219 years later the year is actually 2296. This show takes place 9 years after the events of Fallout 4.
This is not correct. Computers in the Fallout world, until Bethesda, ran on microchips. Throughout Fallout 1 and 2 you can see 80-90s looking desktops on counters. Furthermore the PIP-Boy 2000 has aftermarket parts that are composed of microprocessors. Another example is the scrap electronics and AER14 in FNV. As such microprocessors have existed throughout the Fallout series. I have already added a comment below that goes further into what advanced forearm worn computers can do. From the wiki: While microchips do exist, they are uncommon, usually only seen in highly-technological products, like super computers, artificial intelligence and energy weapons. And later, in the next paragraph: As a result, computers are far clunkier than the ones in our world and some still use monochromatic, command-line interface UI. The personal computer was developed, but due to these limitations on compactness, most models can only be used to store text files; almost all extremely advanced computers exist as large mainframes which can take up whole rooms. The users access them via terminals. Idk why people keep spreading this misinformation.
The term Aaron is looking for is "retro future". The whole genre of "what we thought the future would be like during X era". The Jetsons are a good example. Steampunk is another. That whole "world of tomorrow", where we can somewhat imagine the tech advances, but culturally things are more stuck in place since it's a lot harder to grasp just how those things will shift.
I haven't played the games much, but I do really like the optics of the show. When the girl and the scientist were sitting in the dessert at the end and they showed the old donut shop, it looked 100% like the Fallout Wasteland.
I'm really glad these guys are enjoying it! You don't need to understand the games to be able to follow the story, but it definitely enhances the hype when you understand the major players. There's usually been this unspoken barrier between the East and West coast locations, where the East coast games are made by the current holders of the IP - Bethesda, and the West coast games are made by the original creators - Interplay (later rebranded Obsidian). But if you understand the previous events of the games, you might realize the magnitude of these events in the show, as the bulk of the Brotherhood of Steel's forces in this show are brought over on the large airship called "The Prydwen" (There was a Vanity Fair article last year that falsely listed it as the "Caswennan" that has caused a lot of confusion in the community, but some shots in the tv show clearly have it printed on the side), this was the mobile command center built by the detachment of the Brotherhood that was originally sent into Washington D.C. for Bethesda's first entry, Fallout 3. Along with this detachment, they sent a child named Arthur Maxson - the last descendant of the Brotherhood's original founder: Roger Maxson, whose bloodline and name are treated with the highest respect. At the age of 16, he was appointed Elder of the East coast chapter, and under his leadership they constructed the Prydwen airship and took it to Boston 10 years later in Fallout 4, established the Brotherhood as a major power in 2 Eastern cities, and has now moved back home to the West coast in the t.v. series. To me this feels like the hype that was built up when Daenarys finally sailed to Westeros in Game of Thrones, but it's taking place as the B plot to an unrelated main quest for Lucy lol.
I've only played two of the Fallout games, but I'm absolutely charmed (er, if charmed is the right word for something so gory) by the series so far (we only watched episode 2 as well). I love the dichotomies; the chipper 50s aesthetic and the dark, twisted secrets, the peppy music and the mayhem. And most of all, I love Lucy's "Okey dokey!" It always makes me laugh. It especially makes me laugh that my sister makes the exact same horrified faces Lucy does every time she's faced with something horrible. So many references to the games; I really to love it.
27:04 of any one wants to learn more about the gyro jet Brandon Herrera (the AK guy) and Ian (forgotten weapons) both have excellent videos about it. Brandon actually owns one and showed him firing it, Ian talks more about the creation of the weapon it's commercial failure and it's impact on weapon manufacturers today
The Battle at the boat dock was Eraser and the one about satan was End of Days. Eraser deserves a rewatch because of the macguffin. Plans for a Rail Gun.
3:51 I feel like putting "Please remain calm" on a turret is more of a Portal joke than a Fallout joke. Then again please remain calm while the world burns IS the entire joke of the Vault Boy imagery so what do i know.
The setup for the world of fallout is that the fallout timeline diverges from the real-world timeline around the end of WW2 and into the 50s. Rather than accelerating past the nuclear future propositions of old they actually built upon them, partly due to the fact that they never hit the technological boom that we did. When the bombs dropped in 2077, there were no microchips, advanced processing, and other modern-day technological advances that we have today. That’s why everything remained on tapes, no color footage, and other aspects of the early cold-war era
If I am not mistaken, the timeline of a Fallout is alternate because they discovered nuclear fission AND nuclear fusion when working on the Manhatten Project. Nuclear Fusion allows us to use nuclear power much more efficiently than any type fuel so we never invented transistors, which are the foundation of almost all modern technology.
Um, no. The turning point was 1947, when we invented the transistor and they didn't until over a century later. That's why the Pip-boys are so bulky, despite being basically smartwatches.
You don't see it in the game but the Strong back perk shows it but but your character has a big bag that all your loot goes in and your pip-boy just keep track of your inventory
The rad bear is called a yao guai. The name comes from the chinese Yaoguai which roughly translates to monster, strange creature, and demon. Personally it makes no sense they got a chinese name. Per the lore apparently that is the nickname the captured chinese soldiers gave them... the chinese soldiers that were captured prior to the great war... but the bears didnt get irradiated until the great war. So how did captured chinese soldiers name bears that didnt exist yet? Either the bears were radiated prior to the bombs dropping and thats when the chinese gave them their name. Or chinese soldiers that were state side survived the great war, survived long enough for the bears ti become irradiated, named them, then that name would have had to spread around a now destroyed bombed wasteland. It just makes no sense. But yeah... thats a yao guai and they are irradiated black bears.

But I can't blame him if he's in a situation or something.
I wish Eric would watch this

@Welcometoourfamily-ql7vzneeded a show to miss in order to take care of some health concerns and it just so happened to work out with these 2 just recently finishing Reacher
Yup eric is the heart and soul of blindwave, without him blindwave isnt nearly as great or interesting@@suddenimpulse030
22:07 Yup, getting caught on some errant polygons 😅 True to form
Every character's greatest nemesis... Bethesda geometry. 😆
Came here to say this😂
Came here to say this😂
Can we just appreciate the absolute great gore in this series? Incredible well made
The Ghoul's gun prop is based on revolving shotgun that's normally in .410 gauge. There are several companies that have a version in production, including Turkish manufactured. A REV410 is pretty close example before modifications.
For those who recognize Titus but can't place his actor, he was played by comedian Michael Rapaport.
Some things more:
Get Eric to watch this too
he wont
The chainsaw hand tool she use to cut off the head is actually called a Ripper 😂
Also I hope in season two we see an active assaultron!
From the wiki:
While microchips do exist, they are uncommon, usually only seen in highly-technological products, like super computers, artificial intelligence and energy weapons.
And later, in the next paragraph:
As a result, computers are far clunkier than the ones in our world and some still use monochromatic, command-line interface UI. The personal computer was developed, but due to these limitations on compactness, most models can only be used to store text files; almost all extremely advanced computers exist as large mainframes which can take up whole rooms. The users access them via terminals.
Idk why people keep spreading this misinformation.
Jonathan Nolan keeping his Person of Interest ties is so cool 😎
The term Aaron is looking for is "retro future". The whole genre of "what we thought the future would be like during X era". The Jetsons are a good example. Steampunk is another. That whole "world of tomorrow", where we can somewhat imagine the tech advances, but culturally things are more stuck in place since it's a lot harder to grasp just how those things will shift.
Aaron got both headrests this time ! Nice. My prediction of the whole room coming down by the end still stands.
I haven't played the games much, but I do really like the optics of the show. When the girl and the scientist were sitting in the dessert at the end and they showed the old donut shop, it looked 100% like the Fallout Wasteland.
Man, you guys should really have the full group for this show, it's worth it
I'm really glad these guys are enjoying it!
Minor Spoiler:
Was absolutely hilarious when Maximimus has to choose between keeping a fusion core for his armor or saving a group of people.
The scientist is part of the Enclave, who have info on all vaults, and even have network access to some.
I’m half way through n loving it so far… wish they used the theme more in the soundtrack though
Yes, they really only use it once if I recall. It should play at least on the end credits.
I've rewinded the reaction to the "aunt" comment, so many times. What a great wheeze! 😂
The Music in this episode is Chefs Kiss! Anyway, Walton Goggins killed it as the Ghoul! Fantastic reaction Wave Crew!
The dog's name was CX-404, as in Canine eXperiment Not Found.
Where th is Eric? Seeing his trailer reaction to this series makes me think he wouldn’t miss it for the world.
he is not here. and wont be here
@@Phoenix-ti6tx Got any actual details or just vague non info?
@@yetibeardson1168 from discord. He won't react to the show
@@Phoenix-ti6tx Again, got any actual details or just vague non info?
@@Phoenix-ti6tx this is so useless you might as well have not bothered responding at all.
Knight titus turned on his quest waypoint marker, only way he was so close to the proffesor so quick!
If anyone wants to see the Gyro-Jet in action and recorded in slow-mo, Brandon Hererra made a video on it just a few days ago
3:51 I feel like putting "Please remain calm" on a turret is more of a Portal joke than a Fallout joke.
Then again please remain calm while the world burns IS the entire joke of the Vault Boy imagery so what do i know.
That encounter with water filter guy was so funny :)
and noticing jon nolan as the director thats badass having a nolan director mannnn hell yeah
Aaron reacting to that injection scene is me🤣 Then, Calvin only realising that he threw the top of his armchair off 20mins later🤣
That was an underrated Steve Zahn impression for sure lol
actually lol'ing at aaron ripping the headrests off the chairs
14:09 The guy with the mask is reading Moira Brown's Wasteland Survival Guide.
His pistol probably has the Explosive legendary effect.
@2:42 - LOOOL aaron and the head rest is the traumatic saga i am here for
Maximus out here getting a super lucky critical on that Yao Gaui using just a 10mm pistol
It amazes me all the cameos they have for this show. Enjoy!
Cant. Michael Rapapoop is in this.... 🤮 horrible person
Okay Aaron's reactions to the neck and needle shot was hilarious 🤣
"No matter how much sand I put in it I just get more sand" is my favourite line so far
Aaron's range of emotions from 1:35 to 1:40 😂😂😂
Shots out to Ben Linus / Zepp / Micheal Emerson for looking EXACTLY THE SAME as he did 20 years ago
VATS is shown in such a cool way in this episode
Ma'June took one in the knee .. that is why she is no longer adventuring :D
At first I thought Maximus fucked up shooting but The Ghoul actually shot the gun to jostle it.
Maximus is the Kramer of this show he just bumblefucks his way to victory you’ll see
Damn, Calvin's Rocinante hoodie is so great I went and found it online and bought it.
the aunt probable turned into a ghoul
You don't see it in the game but the Strong back perk shows it but but your character has a big bag that all your loot goes in and your pip-boy just keep track of your inventory
I wonder what CRAM would be. Crunchy Ham? Crushed Ham? Cranberry Ham? Cockroach Ham?
Ever build a settlement in fallout 4 and use basic turrets?
They aren’t very accurate.
The town of Filly's design is most similar to that of Diamond City in Fallout 4 (2015).
Its inspired in Megaton mostly tbh from F3
21:40 Did you rip my headrest off to? 😂
2:48 I heard that, and went straight to te comments to see if anyone came up with "That's what she said" joke...
