All I gotta say is DAMN! That's a nice ass show and it's really cool to see not only a rare piece of old footage of the original lineup but to also see them playing Let It Ride, which almost never happened live with them. It's strange too though because you can tell there is this..tension with J as this was around the point in which the band was breaking up.
I dont understand why during this period J would lay down very tasty, often melodic solos in the studio and then play loud, noise rocky atonal solos on the same songs live. The best example is live versions of the lung from around this era. Oh well, that's what is so rock and roll about him. Rarely plays the same thing twice.
Dinosaur Jr really were the best band right around this time
Well
Sonic youth and the pixies were already a thing
So...
But dino is my favourite
Thelonius Mitchell love operation ivy yeah they had the best performances
@Thelonius Mitchell Op Ivy really able to be compared tho?
fuck, Lou was gold at bass
they never really fulfilled their almost unlimited potential
Yeah, they were so fucking miserable here. This was the best the band could get, without them killing each other.
Awesome clip. Watching makes it really obvious what a MASSIVE influence these guys had on Nirvana.
@TheBoi353 thats true in 1989 as the guitarist then again in 1990 as a drummer before dave joined

They seem such a perfect fit live here. Shame they couldn't have kept it together a bit longer back then. Thanks for posting.

From an interview he said something along the lines of playing what he feels live, describing the solos as him being able to express himself.
This is the year of again to listen to dinosaur and discovered them so grateful you put it on for the viewing and listening.
-the post.
J’s voice sounds so good here
this is one of those rare bands where they havent made a single bad album, after over 30 years not a single song i dont like
This is a phenomenal frickin video. Would love to see the entire show.
best solo
I think this was the show where J and Lou ended up getting into a fist fight on stage.....
Its cause j played a song lou didnt know, so lou guessed it and it ended in a fight
Was that ever captured?
@@pixie_4059 I dont think so
@@jarneyjnr2316 J swinging his guitar at Lou makes a brief appearance in the Sonic Youth "Teenage Riot" music video.
@@jackmeyer8656 no way hahah

I was there
Me too
how did this show end?
Damn I was 1 if I could have gone I would have
Hahaha
🦕
I thought Lou was going to explode
Did you pump all your money into your arms
Where the fuck is J's capo?
Not...on his guitar?
If it's not on his guitar then where the motherfuck is it?
I don't know??? What kind of question is that? He doesn't normally use a capo for either song
He's always playing with a capo on his guitar now, it's rare to see him play without one...
Yeah, well this is 1988. I don't know what to tell you. The newer songs use a capo more often.
love how j has the same attack in his solos here as he does today.. like he never accepted his limitations. He's much more articulate now
