In general, I do not like listening to music that is heavily lick-weighted. It sounds like "deedle-dee, deedle-dee, deedle" to me. Machine-like and not musical. But at this point in my skills development, I'm feeling like licks are better than nothing and practicing licks in the context of a chord progression will improve my playing in several important ways. So: Cool video! It will be an important segment on my journey. I'm starting today!

I totally agree with you, licks could be a double-edge blade

I've been studying bluegrass guitar picking for a while and I've learned runs and fiddle tunes and then switch them up to become more familiar with the notes in any order. Just watching this video really helped me to see the relationship between played notes and chords. I guess you never know what info is going to hold the breakthrough epiphany that one needs to see the same things in a different perspective. Thanks so much!

Great stuff! Sounds like the 3 notes per string licks would work well on " Dill Pickle Rag".

you dont technically play the ionian major over all the chords in a song if it goes from D to A in the key of D you have to play A mixolydian or you are playing in a different key than the song is in
