Get more out of country flatpicking by building licks on CAGED shapes and using three commonly used devices to add variations. The will turn one lick into an endless amount of ideas. I’ll show you how to break a lick up into fragments, how to use repetition and how to use retrograde. Retrograde is a fancy term for playing a melody or lick backwards.

Jason is the best country teacher out there! Total Brad Paisley fanatic. The ultimate country player.
Agreed!
Thanks David
Your teaching skill is very musical and practical. I always feel an immediate usability to your lessons that stick in the long run! Great explanation
Great video, Jason; you have a very clear, eloquent teaching style….well done!
This is a really good lesson. The idea of breaking the lick into parts really caught my attention! It has opened a whole string of idea that I never knew I could use! I was always trying to shoehorn licks into patterns that they didn't fit. This simple idea is really a breakthrough thought for me!
Brilliant lesson as always
Love the new class! It's really well laid out in small, digestible parts that make the learning fun without feeling stressful. This stuff is super challenging but you made it accessible. Thank you!
Great ideas in this lesson 👍 Thanks!
I have this paused and ready to practice at 5pm when I'm off work! You're the best Jason
GREAT LESSON. This was a MUSIC lesson, not just a flat-picking lesson. Top-notch, conservatory level content.
John5 really got me down the rabbit hole of country guitar. Guthrie Trapp has been my favorite so far. I would like a Playlist of essential flatpicking Since this is all new to me.
LOVE the double stop Lessons
Check out Danny Gatton and Daniel Denato!
Thanks Jason. Crystal clear. So helpful as I struggle to learn lead composition while at the same time I work toward breaking 50 years of bad habits. I greatly appreciate you!
Excellent teaching style! I got more out of this than I did from the last 4 or 5 I watched on this. Btw, I have a Tele exactly that color. I love it. What is your neck pickup?
Spot on playing as well
thanks a lot
great video! this is always super helpful to learn, but i also appreciate the super clean and basic layout of everything
Glad you enjoyed it!
your approach to breaking down the lick is spot on.+
Thanks!
This is great teaching brother. Beat I have aeen in some time.
Thanks David
I just now realized in keeping with the caged way of thinking…and i know this’ll have lil to do with licks if at all …..but if i choose a position and start with a caged shape and use that shapes 1,4,5 it will always work….mightve been obvious to most and i may have heard this in the past and it didnt stick…but since this video for whatever reason made me realize it , i figured its only right to mention (comment ) here …and im only 3:25 i to the video 😬wonder what else itll open for me
I have to say you have some of the tastiest licks around ...thanks for sharing!
God stuff again JL
Great ideas that work with the time you put in
Can you please make your dexterity available in a download ?
I took a wrong turn 20 yrs ago and I’m pedalling hard but the palleton is drifting further toward the horizon😉
Luv yr sharing.
Thanks Adam
All those you mentioned plus Andy Wood.
Kenny Vaughan, Jd Simo
Use that 7/9 e bar as well if your hands are baby 🍼 hands like mine!
Could you please show us how to get to your same picking speed (right hand) as you did in this video. I have not been able to, for years. Thank you in advance.
I'll post something at some point but it really comes down to time investment and consistency
@@JasonLoughlinMusic that would be awesome
Those who like this will really get a lot out of Jason's Truefire courses...at least, I've learned a lot from them.
Some favorite flatpickers are Guthrie Trapp, Albert Lee, and Duke Levine.
Thanks. All of my new courses are on my new teaching site www.theinspiredguitarist.com/p/products
JD Simo!
Brad Paisley really got me into country guitar.
Does Eldon Shamblin count?
Not a picker but a great rhythm player
George Barnes, Doc Watson, Norman Blake. I realize Doc and Norman are acoustic players, but still.
what year is that tele and what is that neck pup?
I'm not using it in the video but it's a Charlie Christian PU
@@JasonLoughlinMusic Curious on the year...good looking and sounding (in your hands haha) guitar.
Almost 10 years now. Just did an IG post about it. Used to be bright white with zero wear
@@JasonLoughlinMusic the body finish looks super cool...
Just a lot of hours on it
